Community Garden

One of the many raised bed signs at Pike View Early Childhood Center. The North Little Rock Community Garden Program, of the North Little Rock Neighborhood Services, is kicking into high gear as we enter the peak agriculture season. Our gardeners have been working hard to prepare their garden grounds and get a wide variety of produce planted.

We are excited to collaborate with the Mayor’s Summer Youth Program this season! Not only does this mean we will have extra hands on deck, but we are able to educate our up-and-coming leaders on how agricultural programming works within the City of North Little Rock.

During the spring season, Garden Coordinator Anna Sawyer hosted a weeklong planting class with the teachers and students of Pike View Early Childhood School. Each classroom designed their own garden bed sign and students learned that plants start as seeds before they root, shoot, grow, and bloom! The program also coordinated a series of volunteer opportunities for National Volunteer Week through a mini-grant sponsored by EngageAR. The programming included a flowerbomb workshop with the Arkansas Dream Center/Every Arkansan, a Levy Spur trail clean-up with North Little Rock Parks and Recreation, and a garden workday with the St. Joseph Center of Arkansas. If you and your community are interested in starting a community garden, please contact Anna Sawyer, ASawyer@nlr.ar.gov.
