NeighborhoodSpotlight:

Belinda Burney is a retired teacher from the Little Rock School District, and serves as a member of the North Little Rock History Commission. She is also the President of the Dark Hollow Community Development Corporation. Mrs. Burney and her mother, Delois Sykes, are very involved in the Dark Hollow Food Pantry and Clothes Closet, providing food and clothing to residents needing assistance in our city. Mrs. Burney is a founding member of the North Little Rock Neighborhood Association’s Leadership Council and has attended training sessions for group leaders offered by the City of North Little Rock Neighborhood Services Department.

Mrs. Burney is the daughter of Curtis and Delois Mitchell Sykes. Mr. Sykes served on the North Little Rock History Commission and was instrumental in recognizing and preserving Black history in North Little Rock and across Arkansas. Mr. Sykes led the Black History Commission of Arkansas which served as an advisory group to the Arkansas State Archives from 1993 to 2007. He was the founding President of the Dark Hollow Community Development Corporation and Mrs. Delois Sykes currently serves on the MEMS Board of Directors.
