KIMBERLY SCOTT
CENTER SUPERVISOR
DICKERSON RECREATION COMPLEX
Years of service: 15 years Experience: I am certified through the Red Cross as a Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor and as a CPR/First Aid/ AED instructor. I founded a non-profit Mommies group in Union County and operated that program for 7 years. I have been involved with cub scouts, boy scouts and girl scouts for the past 6 years. My work experience includes teaching preschool, as well as, experience as a 2nd grade teacher’s assistant. I began my career with Monroe Parks and Recreation at the Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center and worked there for 13 years before moving to the Dickerson Community Center in January of 2019 as the Center Supervisor. Hobbies: I love DIY projects and enjoy making YouTube “How to” videos. I love making fun crafts from Pinterest and enjoy making everyday items. Why buy them when you can make them?
Why do I work in Parks and
Recreation? I love the Monroe community. I grew up in New York, but it reminds me of my home town. I love being able to watch the children in our programs grow and being a positive part of their lives.
Favorite thing about working in
Parks and Recreation: The kid in me gets to play every day! Fun fact about myself: I moved to Monroe, North Carolina from Monroe, New York, so people get confused when I tell them where I am from. I always have to clarify which one!

Years of Service: 5 years. 10 months with Monroe Parks and Recreation Experience: I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management from Elizabeth City State University and graduated with a Master’s degree in Parks, Recreation and Sports Management from North Carolina State University. Hobbies: I love to travel and I love the NBA, especially the Charlotte Hornets!
Why do I work in Parks and
Recreation?: It gives me the opportunity to positively affect my community on a grand scale!
Favorite thing about Parks
and Recreation?: I love the social interactions that I get to experience from people within the community. Fun Fact about myself: My family is from Panama.

OLD ARMORY COMMUNITY CENTER
Years of service: 14 years Experience: I came to parks and recreation after working as a network engineer with telecom. Before being hired as the Center Supervisor at the Old Armory Community Center, I volunteered extensively with several guidance and mentor programs and worked part time at the J. Ray Shute Community Center. Hobbies: My hobbies include interior decorating, especially “tablescapes”, vintage shopping and travel!
Why do I work in Parks and
Recreation? I love working with people and helping them with their events. I get to meet new people daily and I love getting to know and serve the citizens of Monroe! I enjoy the impact that my facility makes on our community!
Favorite thing about working
in Parks and Recreation: Every day is a new adventure and I am not chained to a desk! We get to help people develop life skills and learn healthy living.
THOMAS LATIMER

SUTTON PARK COMMUNITY CENTER
Years of service: 10+ years Experience: Before moving to Monroe 14 years ago, I was working at TASC, a criminal justice agency, that mentored troubled teens and young adults. I have worked with schools and organizations within the community creating programs to help mentor kids and families in need of support. After moving to Monroe, I began working as a teacher’s assistant at Indian Trail Elementary and had a part-time job working in the gym at the Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center. I joined the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department full time as the Center Supervisor at Sutton Park Community Center in 2011. Hobbies: I love to watch movies, play basketball, billiards, play board games and listen to music!
Why do I work in Parks and
Recreation: I work in parks and recreation so that I can make an impact on the lives of others in our community, especially children.
Favorite thing about working
in parks and recreation: I get to interact and build new relationships with the community which gives me an opportunity to make a difference in their lives. Fun fact about myself: I love to grill for my family and friends on the weekends and watch funny videos with my family!

WINCHESTER RECREATION COMPLEX
Years of service: 5 years. 8 months with Monroe Parks and Recreation. Experience: I graduated from Newberry College in 2016 and interned with the City of Newberry from 2015-2016 and then worked with the City of Spartanburg Parks and Recreation from 2017-2020 before joining Monroe Parks and Recreation in 2020. Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with my daughter, painting, playing basketball and football, kayaking and paddle boarding.
Why do I work in Parks and
Recreation? I love teaching inside and outside of the classroom in a recreation environment. It is an opportunity to selflessly serve this community and give participants a fun and safe environment to enjoy.
Favorite thing about working
for Parks and Recreation: It allows me to use my creativity to reach and relate to all ages and have a positive impact on their lives and know that we can recreate at any time of the day. Fun Fact about myself: I had the opportunity to play Division I football and have been teammates of current NFL and NBA players.
