Director’s Message Fall is just around the corner and our community will soon be filled with brisk air and decorated with beautiful autumn leaves. Thankfully, the change of season will do nothing to slow down our busy Parks and Recreation team. Work is nearly complete on the new trailhub located along Ten Mile Road just north of Ustick, and the pathway connection that links the Five Mile Pathway across Fairview Avenue at Lakes Avenue is nearly finished, as well. The Meridian Homecourt is being heavily utilized for a variety of indoor sports and is the site for a series of new Friday night Teen Nights where local teens can socialize, enjoy pizza, and take part in a variety of games and recreational activities. We’ve also been collaborating with the National Golf Foundation to create a Master Plan for Meridian’s Lakeview Golf Club. This strategic document addresses a variety of topics, including methods of engaging the public and stakeholders; a detailed marketing overview and analysis; potential capital improvements; and a vision for the club’s future long-term operations.
The Meridian Main Street Market has also gained momentum this summer and will continue outside Meridian City Hall every Saturday through mid-October. We’re also pleased to be planning the return of several popular community events this fall. The Concerts on Broadway live music series will return to Meridian City Hall’s outdoor plaza with performances on August 28, September 11, and September 25. Meridian Art Week, featuring a free outdoor concert by the Meridian Symphony Orchestra in honor of Gene Kleiner, will be celebrated with a variety of art-focused family activities on September 8-11. Downtown Meridian will be turned into a Halloween extravaganza on the evening of October 21 as families gather for our popular Trunk or Treat event. And Christmas in Meridian will follow shortly thereafter with activities beginning just after Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy autumn and its many opportunities to take part in all our great community has to offer!
Have you lost (or found) something recently in a Meridian park? If so, please let our administrative office know by calling (208) 888-3579. We have pretty good luck reuniting items with their rightful owners!
