The City of Marble Falls operates as a Home Rule City under a CouncilManager form of government The seven-member City Council, including the Mayor, is elected at-large to staggered two-year terms with a three-term limit. The Council appoints a City Manager to oversee daily operations
Appointed in 2014, City Manager Mike Hodge serves as the organization’s CEO, managing over 160 staff members and implementing City Council policies He previously held leadership roles in Pearland and Friendswood, Texas.

The Finance Department plays a critical role in ensuring the fiscal stability and accountability of the City More than just reviewing financial reports, the department collaborates with all City departments to maintain financial integrity, ensure compliance, and optimize the use of public funds all while upholding transparency and public trust
The Director of Finance leads a high-performing team dedicated to professional and efficient financial management, utility billing, and municipal court services in accordance with City policies and best practices Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Director oversees all financial, accounting, and municipal court activities, including:
Budget preparation & oversight
Cash & debt management
Purchasing & investments
Financial auditing & compliance
The Director directly supervises the Senior Accountant, Accounting Supervisor, Finance Clerk, and Municipal Court Clerk to ensure the highest level of internal and external customer service.
Financial Oversight – Manages all City funds, ensuring responsible allocation and compliance.
Utility Billing & Payroll – Oversees utility billing services and processes payroll for all City employees.
Budget & Auditing – Prepares annual budget documents and conducts financial audits to maintain fiscal responsibility.

The City seeks a fiscally responsible, adaptable leader to serve as the next Director of Finance. This individual will ensure that the City's vision, goals, and values remain central to all financial recommendations and decisions while demonstrating integrity, fairness, and ethical leadership in all professional relationships The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to financial excellence, ensuring the Finance Department remains a model of efficiency, accountability, and service to the community
The new Director will be expected to:
Foster a culture of accountability by setting clear expectations, delegating responsibilities effectively, and promoting teamwork within the department.
Lead by example, demonstrating strong leadership through actions and professional conduct
Support a leadership-driven culture, aligning with principles from John C Maxwell’s The 5 Levels of Leadership: Proven Steps to Maximize Your Potential. The City’s executive team has integrated these principles into leadership training, and the new Director will be expected to continue this initiative
Ensure financial efficiency and compliance, providing strategic guidance on budget
Preparation, administration, and long-term fiscal planning
Improve operational processes, identifying innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, cost savings, and service delivery.
Prioritize customer service, coaching staff to provide exceptional support to both internal departments and the public.

Qualifications&Experience
Education:
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field is required
Experience:
At least four years of progressively responsible experience in budgeting and financial control
At least one year of supervisory experience in a financial management or accounting department/division.
Demonstrated experience in municipal or county budget preparation and administration
PreferredQualifications:
A master’s degree in a related field
Designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO).
Maintain the City's 20-year history of GFOA excellence by ensuring compliance and submitting annual budget and audit reports.
Lead the transition to a fully integrated ERP system, streamlining financial management, payroll, and procurement
Ensure General and Utility Fund balances remain at 25% of expenditures, updating the Five-Year Financial Model as needed.
Maintain or improve the City's AA bond rating.

Deferred Compensation: Employees can voluntarily contribute to a 457 Deferred Compensation account with Mission Square (formerly ICMA-RC) for additional retirement savings.
Worker’sCompensation: Employees are immediately eligible for workers compensation.
