CITY CENTER ATRIUM NAMED FOR MAYOR JOY BRANTLEY DAY
On March 31, 2021, during the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Jonesboro City Center, City Manager Ricky Clark announced that the Atrium in the City Center would be named, by a unanimous vote of City Council, the “Joy B. Day Atrium.” Mayor Day was first elected Mayor in 1995. Under her leadership, the City has moved forward steadily, building all current City parks, two major Streetscapes in the downtown area, numerous sidewalk, paving, and drainage projects in the City, all funded by grants, most of which the Mayor wrote on behalf of the City. She initiated the Comprehensive Plan, City Concerts, the building of Lee Street Park, City Newsletter, Downtown Development Authority, the Main Street Program, Broad Street Plaza, and the new City Center (City Hall & Police Department). Mayor Day has been a resident of Jonesboro since 1971 and is a retired (35 yrs.) Principal of the Clayton County School System. She served as an adjunct professor at both Tift College and Mercer University. She currently serves as a board member of the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Governance Board of ARC. She is also on the Southern Regional Medical Center Board. Mayor Day is active in the Georgia Municipal Association and the Metro Atlanta Mayors’ Association. The receipeint of many civic awards, Mayor Day maintains her down-to-earth attitude toward life. She is a native of Thomaston, Georgia and has one son, Brantley E. Day (pictured above). Mayor Day expressed her appreciation: “I am humbled and overwhelmed by such an honor. It has been my
pleasure to serve the citizens and City of Jonesboro. Thank you for this recognition, especially on behalf of my family.”

Sign up for our SCOPE Program Senior Citizens’ Outreach Plus Engagement
“SCOPE” means to look at carefully. Magnifying our senior citizens gives the Jonesboro Police Department the ability to support our senior community through outreach plus engagement. SCOPE creates an opportunity for JPD to identify the needs of our seniors, craft solutions, and improve the quality of life. JPD will conduct regular welfare checks in person and by telephone. Law enforcement partnered with our senior citizens cultivates a sense of security, restoring confidence for our senior population to be more socially interactive while realizing they are part of one great community. A portion of the Community Garden of Jonesboro has been officially reserved for members of SCOPE to receive fresh veggies, once harvested. Jonesboro PD will hand-deliver fresh veggies to your home.
