Welcome to the QPT Summer-Autumn program guide for 2017. We have a fantastic line up of events that are sure to please even the fussiest of theatregoers.

News that Jason ‘Wee Man’ Acuna, Chris ‘Party Boy’ Pontius, Preston Lacy & Dave England would be bringing their unique brand of out-there comedy and crazy stunts to the QPT stage nearly broke the internet, with eager fans frantically trying to secure tickets to the show.

The Jackass boys are just one of the great comedy acts on offer this year. Sugar Blue Burlesque and Famous Sharron, and of course, the ever-popular Melbourne International Comedy Festival are all pencilled in to return in 2017.

Other great acts include Bram Stoker’s Dracula, as well as the musical delights of Oh What a Night, Best of the Eagles and the Opera in the Park simulcast. We even have something on offer for little ones! The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Cirque Africa will performing on stage, lifting your child’s imagination to great new heights.

MISS K IS...WRONG.COM The year is 2016 and Miss K is struggling to keep up. She’s trying desperately to be a modern girl in a cyber-world but… it’s just so complex. She wants fame but can’t dance, build or cook and Big Brother’s well…she’s tried texting at red lights but only seems to get greens.

Sometimes her laptop runs out of batteries but the charger’s so far away. She just cooked, but with no picture, did it really occur?

THE BÉLIER FAMILY

Screening in the QPT Outdoor Amphitheatre In the Bélier family, everyone is deaf, except dutiful sixteen-year-old Paula (beautiful newcomer Louane Emera). She acts as an indispensable interpreter for her parents and younger brother, especially in the running of the family dairy farm.

Though her salt-of-the-earth father (François Damiens) has decided to run for mayor – spurred on by her vivacious but over involved mother (indelibly portrayed by Karin Viard) – Paula’s attentions are very much elsewhere. She’s witnessed the handsome new boy at school sign up for the choir and impulsively joined too.

It’s not long before her music teacher (Éric Elmosnino) discovers her considerable Department of Culture and the Arts talent, however his encouragement only exacerbates the matter of Paula’s independence…

Screening in the QPT Outdoor Amphitheatre As he is preparing to join the Israeli Army for his national service, Joseph discovers he is not his parents’ biological son and that he was inadvertently switched at birth with Yassin, the son of a Palestinian family from the West Bank.

The Other Son is a moving provactive story of revelation that turns the lives of these two families upside-down, forcing them to reassess their respective identities, values and their beliefs.

Screening in the QPT Outdoor Amphitheatre Paterson is a bus driver in the city of Paterson, New Jersey — they share the name. Everyday, Paterson adheres to a simple routine: he drives his daily route; observing the city as it drifts across his windscreen and overhearing fragments of conversation swirling around him; he writes poetry into a notebook; he walks his dog; he stops in a bar and drinks exactly one beer; he goes home to his wife Laura.

By contrast, Laura’s world is ever changing.

New dreams come to her almost daily, each a different and inspired project. Paterson loves Laura and she loves him. He supports her newfound ambitions. She champions his gift for poetry. The film quietly observes Department of Culture and the Arts the triumphs and defeats of daily life along with the poetry evident in its smallest details.

Half of a Yellow Sun is an epic love story set in Nigeria that weaves together the lives of four people swept up in the turbulence of war.

The story is based on best selling novel of the same name by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and from the producers of The Constant Gardener and The Last King of Scotland. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Thandie Newton (The Pursuit of Happiness) and Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls, No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency) and is directed by Biyi Bandele.

Screening in the QPT Outdoor Amphitheatre Tommaso (Marco Giallini) is an esteemed and defiantly self-confident cardiac surgeon and an unabashed atheist. But the veneer of his perfect life is abruptly cracked when his only son Andrea (Enrico Oetiker) brings the family together for an important announcement. It’s not a heavily speculated -upon declaration relating to his sexuality, but rather – to his father’s great horror – his intention to abandon his medical studies to become a priest!

Tommaso refuses to accept his son’s newfound vocation, and decides to ‘go undercover’ to expose the charismatic Father Don Pietro (Alessandro Gassman) whom he is convinced has brainwashed his son.
