CULTURAL ARTS CAMPS

Taste of the Arts Camp

We provide enrichment and exploration, giving youth the opportunity to immerse themselves in the arts and practice creativity, all of which leads to a fascinating summer.

All camp staff have experience working with children as well as a background in and love of the arts. Each camp day includes classes in a variety of disciplines and may include field trips, visits from guest artists and special workshops. Most of our camps go to the beach once a week.

General Information

Communication Prior to the start of camp, you will receive a detailed manual, all your forms and information on how to sign up for extended care for the camps that offer it. Weekly newsletters are published during camp.

Extended Care Extended care is available for most campers through the City. More details will be sent in March. *Immersion and Taste camps will begin on Weds June 10 due to availability of Dist 65 campuses.

Arts Immersion Camp

For families seeking a deep dive into creativity and artistic exploration, Immersion in the Arts offers four weeks of hands-on discovery. Each week features a new theme that campers will interpret through visual arts, music, drama, storytelling, movement and dance. It’s a space for young artists to stretch their imaginations, build skills, and form lasting friendships. Preand post-care will be available; details coming in March.

4 Evanston Parks and Recreation Summer Camp Guide 2026

Some families prefer a deep dive into the arts and creative process, while others are looking for a smorgasbord of single-week summer options– and this year, we are offering both at the same location. Our single-week, mixed-age arts camp will explore the same weekly themes as Immersion in the Arts, responding through visual art, drama, media and movement, while sharing space and teaching staff with the Immersion camp. Pre- and postcare details available in March.

Evanston Children’s Theater Camp

Farm to Table

Ready, set, cook! This summer, young chefs take center stage in the ultimate culinary showdown. Each day brings a new challenge inspired by popular cooking competitions — think mystery ingredients, timed tasks and creative twists that spark imagination and teamwork. With innovation as their recipe for success, kids will chop, whisk, mix and plate dishes that wow the eyes and the taste buds. From Kids Baking Championship to MasterChef Junior, campers will be bringing the heat!

AQUATICS

Summer Voyagers Camp

General Information

Please only register for a morning or afternoon session during the same dates. You may register for multiple sessions throughout the summer.

Swim Test Required

Although campers will wear Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices when they are aboard boats or other vessels, they are required to pass a 50-yard swim test (any combination of strokes) before they may participate in aquatic activities. The test will be given in the lake on the first day of camp (weather permitting). It’s in your best interest to be sure the camper can pass the test. Refunds will not be provided if the test is failed. Aquatic Camp meets every day, but bad weather, poor conditions or equipment failure may require that activities take place on the sand, a park, or inside the Beach Office.

Camp Staff

Instructors are highly qualified with extensive lakefront experience. All staff members are certified in waterfront lifeguarding, C.P.R. and First Aid.

Youth Aquatic Camp

Dive into summer fun at our Aquatic Camp! Campers will rotate through sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding and tubing, with activities changing based on the day and weather conditions. When they’re not out on the water, they’ll stay active with games like Nukem, capture the flag, relay races and sandcastle competitions.

Jr. Lifeguard Camp Campers will learn how to deal with various water safety situations.

Activities will include learning skills in first aid, CPR, water safety, beach operations, rescue techniques and team-building games. This camp is open to proficient swimmers that have a desire to learn more about lifeguarding.

Campers must be able to swim 100 yards, any combination of strokes, and tread water for 2 minutes and will be tested on the first day.

Learn to Skate Hockey Camp

Camp includes daily ice sessions, outdoor activities and off-ice conditioning. Skaters will learn the fundamentals of skating and build on those skills as they’re introduced to the basics of hockey. Campers must bring a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads. Skate rental is included in the camp fee.

Sports Camps Free Skate Camp

Designed for experienced Free Skate–level skaters, this camp features both on-ice and off-ice training. On the ice, skaters will focus on key Free Skate techniques including power skating, edge work, jumps, spins, music interpretation and daily independent practice sessions. Off the ice, campers will participate in conditioning, ballet, yoga, stretching and off-ice skating technique. Participants must have completed all Basic levels of the Learn to Skate program.

Figure Skating Training Camp

Designed for high-level figure skaters, this camp includes both on-ice and off-ice training. On the ice, athletes will focus on power skating, edge work, jumps, jump-harness training, spins, music interpretation and daily independent practice sessions. Off the ice, skaters will take part in intense conditioning, cardio training, ballet, yoga, stretching and off-ice jump and positioning technique. Participants must have completed all levels of the Learn to Skate USA program and be able to execute an advanced axel and at least one double jump.

Counselor in Training Camps

Ecology Counselor in Training

Ready to step up and become a camp leader? Our CIT program gives participants hands-on experience learning what it takes to be a great camp counselor.

During the first two weeks, CITs will build important skills in communication, leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork through fun, interactive workshops. In the second two weeks, they’ll put their training into action by assisting counselors at EcoQuest Camp—helping lead crafts, games, and activities while gaining real-world experience guiding younger campers.

In addition to counselor training, CITs will enjoy a variety of classic summer camp adventures, including canoeing, field trips, and beach days.

Pre-camp care is available daily from 7:30 am to 9:00 am on site at Ecology CIT Camp.

Post-camp care is available daily from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on site at Ecology CIT Camp.

Robert Crown Counselor in Training Counselor in Training (CIT) Camp prepares teens to work with staff and contribute their talents to the programs offered at the Robert Crown Community Center. Participants serve as role models for the younger children, and receive weekly training from a variety of social service professionals and mentors. The program builds community and prepares youth to work with children in a variety of settings.

CIT participants receive basic training on a range of topics: effective engagement, behavior management, communication, team work, safety procedures and more. Senior staff evaluate and mentor the participants throughout the four-week program and provide a final evaluation. After training and observations, CIT participants will be assigned to volunteer at camp, based on an interview and personal interests, while also receiving training on the various topics listed above.

Volunteer options include Fun Factory (ages 5-7), or Kid City (ages 7-10).

Volunteers are expected to participate in the program Monday through Friday, 9am-4pm for the entire four-week period. Volunteers may speak with the Camp Director to adjust their schedule if necessary. The registration fee includes training and supplies, field trips, and small group activities.

Camp Registration Information Camp Registration Day • • • • • • • •

Camp registration day is Feb. 7, 2026, beginning at 8 a.m.

Registration is online only. No in-peron or phone registrations Online registration support will be available over the phone from 8am-12pm by calling 311.

No phone registrations will be allowed at this time.

Registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Wait-list spots will be available immediately once a camp has filled.

The camp registration day is for Evanston residents only (zip codes 60201 and 60202).

You must have an existing online registration account to register.

Online Registration

To request an account, click on the “Login” link at cityofevanston.org/register. Then click “Don’t have an account?

Sign up.” Your child must meet all requirements to enroll in camps listed in the Summer Camp Guide. Exceptions can’t be made online. Online registrations steps: • Existing online accounts: Plan ahead, check that your account is accessible 48 hour prior to registration day.

• New online accounts: Accounts must be created 24 hours prior to registration.

• Add camps to your cart by clicking the Register button on the camp’s page..

• Select the child(ren) who will attend the camp and click “continue”.

• You will be prompted through the payment/registration process.

• A receipt will automatically be emailed.

Nonresident Registration Information

Registration for nonresidents begins at 10am on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026mat cityofevanston.org/register, at all the recreation centers or by phone. A $25 deposit per camp section is due at enrollment.

Camp Policies

Toilet Training: All campers must be toilet trained before beginning a City of Evanston camp program.

Wait List: Wait lists for camp sections will become available once a camp has filled.

There is no fee required to be on a wait list.

Registration Cut-off: In order to have safe, adequate staffing on the first day of camp, registration will close 72 hours before each session starts. If a registration is taken after camp starts the participant will not be able to attend for 24 hours after the registration takes place and the emergency form is completed.

Deposit Policy: A $25 deposit is required for each camp section at the time of your child(ren) enrollment. No fee assistance available for deposits.

Transfer Policy: You may request that your child transfer from one City of Evanston camp to a new registration in another City of Evanston camp. Contact the center hosting the camp to initiate a transfer to a new selection.

Do not bring your child to the “new” camp until you are contacted the transfer has been finalized.

If the camp transferred to has a higher fee, you must pay the difference. If the camp transferred to has a lower fee, a refund will be issued. Camp deposits and camp balance payments are not transferable to non-camp programs.

Refunds: • Refunds requested 7 or more days before the start of a camp session will be issued minus the deposit.

• Refunds requested 6 days before the camp session starts through the first day of camp will be issued minus the deposit and the cost of one camp day.

• If a family experiences a documented hardship as defined by the Parks and Recreation Department a refund may be considered for requests made within 6 days of the camp start date, minus the deposit.

• Hardship documentation must be submitted before the halfway point of the camp session.

• No refunds will be issued after the start of a camp session.

Payments: Starting on Feb. 15, 2026 the Parks and Recreation department will send invoices for summer camp fees due. The invoices will be sent on the 1st and the 15th of each month until May 5, 2026 when all camp fees are due. Families are encouraged to pay what they can, when they can between February 15 and May 5. If you have not paid the balance due by May 5, 2026, we will cancel your child’s reserved space(s) and you will forfeit your camp deposit(s). Camp registrations that occur after May 5, 2026 must be paid in full at the time of registration. Fees can be paid through a your online account or by visiting or calling a City of Evanston community center.

If you have not paid the balance due by May 5, 2026, we reserve the right to cancel your child’s reserved space(s) and you will forfeit your camp deposit(s).

Households with a previous balance are required to pay in full all outstanding balances prior to starting camp.

Emergency Contact Form: Participants in City of Evanston camp programs are required to have an information/emergency form on file prior to the first day of camp.

Campers will not be allowed to participate in camp until their health form is submitted.

Health and Code of Conduct

First aid for minor cuts or abrasions is available. Please refer to our sick policy in the Parent Manual for full details.

The City of Evanston doesn’t carry hospitalization insurance for program participants; your family’s individual health care policy must cover all your medical needs.

Before camp starts, camps will include the City of Evanston’s Code of Conduct policy as part of the parent packet. It will be implemented if a child’s behavior begins to interfere with the rights of others.

Fee Assistance/Scholarships Fee assistance is available to qualifying Evanston residents based on family size and total family income.

Fee assistance applications are available at cityofevanston.org/recreationscholarship.

Fee assistance is valid for one year.

• The Parks, and Recreation Department accepts payment assistance from a third party agency, providing the following guidelines are followed.

• Verification of third party fund availability for participation before camp begins.

• The entire camp balance is the responsibility of the guardian if the event assistance is denied.

General Information

Drop-off and Pick-up: All camps have a sign-in and sign-out procedure that must be followed. Guardians are responsible for picking up children when the program ends.

If a child is picked up more than five minutes late, you will be assessed a late fee of $5 per child for the first 15 minutes and $1/min after that time.

Pre and Post Camp Care: Pre- and Post-care registration will begin at 10 a.m. on March 10, 2026. Each Pre and Post care site offers children access to various recreational activities, this is not an extension of the camp curriculum. Pre and Post care service is available for campers registered in specific camps.

Ways to Pay: Online at cityofevanston.org/register, by phone, or in person with a major credit card. Check, money order or cash (in person only starting Feb. 9, 2026).

Inclusion Information Inclusion Services Policies & Procedures

Goals of Evanston Inclusion Services • To provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate safely and successfully alongside peers in Evanston’s Parks & Recreation programming.

• To provide access to the goals, benefits, and overall experience that all participants in the program receive through reasonable, least restrictive accommodations which do not fundamentally change the recreation program.

• To facilitate understanding, collaboration, and connections within all Parks & Recreation programming and within the community.

Receiving Inclusion Services

Requests for Inclusion Services can be initiated by Parks and Recreation staff or participant and/or guardian(s).

Parks and Recreation staff must request Inclusion Services by completing the following steps: • Staff communicates with the participant/guardian to inform them of any concerns related to safety and successful participation in the program. Staff informs participant/guardian that they will be contacting the Inclusion Coordinator for support.

• Staff contacts the Inclusion Coordinator to communicate concerns.

• Inclusion Coordinator schedules an observation of participant at program.

• After observation, Inclusion Coordinator provides an observation summary to the staff requesting assistance, which will include a determination about any support/ accommodations needed.

• The staff provides this summary to other applicable staff in the program and to participant/guardian.

• If it is determined that accommodations are needed, the Inclusion Coordinator contacts the participant/guardian to complete an Inclusion Assessment.

• Inclusion Coordinator provides tools to program staff for accommodations as needed.

• If it is determined that an Inclusion staff is needed, the Inclusion Coordinator begins the process of assigning/hiring and training an Inclusion Assistant.

• In the case that an Inclusion Assistant is not available, the participant will be placed on the Inclusion waitlist.

• Program fees paid will be prorated as needed based on any missed days after the initial observation.

• If an Inclusion Assistant is not found by the end of the program season, all fees will be credited back to the participant/guardian.

Participant and/or guardian must request Inclusion Services by completing the following steps: • Participant/guardian are encouraged to contact the Inclusion Coordinator as soon as possible once determining what program(s) the participant would like to attend.

• Once registered, the participant/guardian completes an Inclusion Assessment with the Inclusion Coordinator to determine any accommodations needed for safe and successful participation in the program.

• Inclusion Coordinator communicates with program staff and prepares tools as needed for any accommodations for the program.

• If it is determined that an Inclusion Assistant is needed, the Inclusion Coordinator begins the process of assigning/hiring and training an Inclusion Assistant.

• In the case that an Inclusion Assistant is not available, the participant will be placed on the Inclusion waitlist.

• Program fees paid will be prorated as needed based on any missed days of the program due to an Inclusion Assistant not being available.

• If an Inclusion Assistant is not found by the end of the program season, all fees will be credited back to the participant/guardian.

Accommodations Provided Through Inclusion Services

Following guidance from the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), any accommodations provided for safe and successful participation in a Parks & Recreation program will be reasonable, least restrictive, and will not fundamentally change the program.

Accommodations and levels of support needed will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may include: •

Training and education for program staff.

•

Adapted equipment and/or tools for program staff.

•

Check-ins and visits from Inclusion Coordinator throughout the program.

•

Modifications to program structure or routine.

•

Inclusion Assistant added to the program.

Inclusion Services will be re-evaluated as necessary with consistent communication between the Inclusion Coordinator, participant/guardian, Parks & Recreation program staff, and Inclusion Assistant, if applicable. An increase in support will be adjusted based on the needs of the participant as determined by the Inclusion Coordinator.

Inclusion Assistant Assignments

Inclusion Assistant are trained to provide support as needed to help Parks & Recreation staff include the participant in programs. This training includes adapting activities, behavior management, disability awareness, incorporating visual and sensory tools, and other participant-specific tasks as needed, such as assistance with personal care (i.e. changing clothes, eating, toileting, etc.) mobility, or communication.

While every effort will be made, the determination of maximum support and the need for an Inclusion Assistant does not guarantee that an Inclusion Assistant will be available.

Needs will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis and Assistant will be assigned based on availability as well as skill level required. Due to the high volume of Inclusion Assistant needed citywide, the same Inclusion Assistant cannot be guaranteed from program to program. Inclusion Assistant will not be provided for programs which do not require pre-registration (e.g., drop-in camp, open gym, and family programs.)

Attendance

• If an assigned Inclusion Assistant is unable to work due to an emergency or illness, every effort will be made to place an appropriate and available substitute with the participant. If a substitute is unavailable, the participant will be unable to attend the program until an Inclusion Assistant is available. Applicable program fees will be prorated until an Inclusion Assistant is available.

• If a participant is going to be absent, the participant/guardian must contact the Inclusion Coordinator and Parks & Recreation program staff/designee.

• If the participant is absent three times during a single program, the Inclusion Assistant will be removed and reassigned to a participant on the Inclusion waitlist.

This results in immediate discontinuation of participation in the program.

Code of Conduct Policies

• Every effort will be made to provide opportunities for a participant with a disability to safely and successfully participate in Parks & Recreation programming. Receiving Inclusion Services does not exempt a participant from the City of Evanston’s Parks & Recreation Code of Conduct as well as program rules and consequences. The modifications/accommodations are provided to assist the participant in following the rules. They do not exempt the participant from following the rules.

• If a participant is unable to comply with these rules, even with accommodations in place, they may be subject to disciplinary procedures including discussions with guardians, suspension, or removal from the program if behaviors are deemed unsafe for the participant, peers, staff, and/or program environment.

• Please note an acknowledgment form must be submitted to the Inclusion Coordinator before Inclusion Services are initiated.
