We know how important it is to create an environment where campers can explore activities that engage and excite them Our awardwinning camp program offers each child a unique experience through an incredible variety of programs and diverse camp team You can rely on our highly competent staff to engage with your child in the way that best meets their needs, while knowing that safety is our highest priority

Join El Cerrito Recreation for a summer to remember! This year we will offer weekly camp options, including the classic day camp experience through Camp Everything, as well as Specialty Camps for those looking to discover new hobbies and passions.

Campers entering 4th-9th grade are invited to join us on the Eel River amongst the redwood trees of southern Humboldt County. This summer we're offering two one-week sessions. You can choose to attend one or both weeks.

Teens entering 10th-12th grade can apply for our Teens in Leadership Training program (teens required to attend both weeks).

CampEverythingCamps

Led by City staff, “Camp Everything” camps give your child a summer to remember. Campers will make new friends, learn new skills, and get the most out of classic camp activities. Each week includes a new theme and spirit days. Camps for older children include more field trips to keep experiences fresh and new. Join us for one week or the whole summer and make memories and friends to last a lifetime!

Camp Everything camps include Adventure Camp, Discovery Camp and Explorers Camp. Each of these camps provide care between 8am through 6pm daily, with camp activities from 9am-4pm, and included extended care from 8-9am and 4-6pm. Extended care activities include board games, drawing, and indoor/outdoor free play Camps are based out of a City Clubhouse but take place primarily outdoors Fullday Camp Everything camps include weekly trips to the Swim Center, and even include swimming lessons for the Adventure and Discovery groups. Detailed camp schedules will be emailed the Thursday before each week. It is important to pay special attention to field trip times and other events, as campers may need to arrive early or be picked up late. Please see the Parent Handbook for an outline of a typical daily schedule. In addition to the full day programs, Camp Everything offers a Half Day program for grades K-3, which runs from 1pm-4pm only

SpecialtyCamps

Specialty Camps offer the opportunity for your child to explore age-appropriate activities and develop skills in specific subjects like visual & performing arts, athletics, engineering, and more. Specialty Camps are unique in that they allow campers to delve in and focus on a new interest or an activity they already love. Most Specialty Camps are offered as All Day or Half Day (AM or PM) options. Half Day AM Camps can be paired with PM Camps to create a full day of camp! Campers enrolled in both an AM and PM camp will be transported between their camps by City staff, after enjoying their lunch-from-home during Lunch Bunch.

How do I register for 2023 summer camps?

Registration will be available online only at www elcerrito.org/onlinereg beginning Wed, 2/15 at 9am. Please note that trying to register before the opening date and time will result in an error message. After completing your online registration, please also immediately submit a Health & Safety JotForm (required once per summer).

What is Discount Day?

Discount Day is a virtual special event for camp families! To encourage families to register early and secure their spots in our camps, we will offer a special one-day discount of 10% to everyone who enrolls online on the first day of registration. Online Discount Day begins at 9am on 2/15 and will be offered through 11:59pm that day

How do I complete the Health & Safety JotForm?

The Health & Safety JotForm link can be found at www.elcerrito org/summercamp Before filling out your form, please have available a recent photo of your child that you can download from the device you are using (i e , your desktop computer, smart phone, etc ) as well as health insurance information. Please note the form must be completed all at once as you are not able to save your progress

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for Discount Day?

We strongly encourage anyone signing up for camps on 2/15 to set up their account ahead of time at www el-cerrito org/onlinereg Make sure you can log in, that everyone in your household is listed on your account, and that all birthdays are input and accurate If you have done any program with the Recreation Dept, you already have an account Utilize the “forgot password” tool, or email recreation@ci elcerrito.ca.us if you need assistance accessing your account. Will your camps fill up?

We expect hundreds of registrations to occur right at 9am on Discount Day/the first day of registration Inevitably some of our popular camps will fill to their max capacities very early. We ask families to prepare for the fact that they may not get into their first-choice camps, even when registering right at 9am. If this happens, be sure to add your camper to the waitlist If your desired camp is full, there is nothing our office can do on registration day. However, we CAN utilize our waitlist if and when a space opens up While you may not get in to your firstchoice camp, there will always be an alternate camp option for you.

How does the waitlist work?

To get on a camp waitlist, complete the same steps as a normal registration. No fees will be charged, and our registration system will maintain a list of families to contact should space become available While getting on a waitlist does not guarantee you will get into the camp later, it is your best chance and there are plenty of instances each summer where campers are moved from the waitlist to their desired camp If space becomes available, our office will contact you You will have the option to accept the spot and pay the camp fee at that time or decline the spot If you are not contacted, no space is available.

Are there scholarships available?

The Recreation Department is excited continue our more robust scholarship program. Families are now eligible to receive up to $300 per child, up to two times per year More information can be found at www.el-cerrito.org/scholarship.

My Specialty Camp has a materials fee. How do I pay that?

Materials fees are not collected at the time of registration, and instead should be paid directly to the instructor on the first day of camp Typically, materials fees are paid via check, payable to the instructor. Some instructors may additionally accept payment via app (i e , PayPal or Venmo), and if this is applicable to your camp it will be included in the welcome message from your instructor.

Can I register for multiple weeks? Can I register for more than one camp in a week?

Yes! You can sign up for as many individual weeks of camp as you wish Campers can be enrolled in up to two camps per week: an AM and PM camp. Please note that AM/PM camps cannot be paired with full day camps, nor teen leadership camps (Junior Guard Camp, and LIT). Alternatively, campers can choose to enroll in one full-day camp, or only spend half the day with us at an AM or PM camp

If I register for an AM and PM camp, what does my child do between camps? Do I need to pick them up?

If you register for an AM camp and PM camp in the same week, your camper will be automatically placed in our "Lunch Bunch" program. Lunch Bunch is a time period from 12-1pm where City staff supervise campers while they eat their lunches from home, and enjoy some free time between camps City staff will sign your camper out of their morning camp and into their afternoon camp, so parents DO NOT need to be present during this hour Food is not provided and campers must bring a nut-free ready-to-eat lunch from home.

Are campers in a half day of Sports Camp eligible for Lunch Bunch? Yes! Although half day Sports Camp times vary slightly from the standard AM and PM camp times, campers in half day Sports Camp are still able to pair Sports Camp with another half day Specialty Camp, and will be included in the Lunch Bunch program.

I read that Explorers Camp has two field trips per week, but only one is listed on the excursion chart. Where else will they be going? Each week, Explorers will have one "larger" field trip on Thursdays (the excursion listed on the chart) and one "mini" field trip on Tuesdays. A "mini" field trip is a more local destination that can be accessed by walking or public transportation Mini trips may include places like Barnes and Nobles, Baskin Robins, or other local parks, and will be announced in each weekly newsletter

What if I do not want my child to attend the Discovery/Explorers field trip?

You may opt to the keep your child home on field trip days Campers will not lose their space at camp for non-attendance. However, fees will not be prorated if a camper does not attend the field trip If care is needed, you may utilize the Sports Camp full day drop-in option (all fees still apply)
