Design Camp w/ TinkerCAD and 3D Printing

8-11Y

This Camp is structured for all kids interested in learning about 3D-Design. It is about how we can add a Design component to all solutions that we develop using technology to address real-world problems. This camp focuses on teaching the foundational concepts of design, 3D Design, and getting them familiar with software they will use to build their models. We will be exploring the basic foundational concepts of 3D printing using a software called TinkerCAD. TinkeCAD is a kid-friendly online computer-aided design (CAD) program where users can design, modify, and print 3D objects. Even better, kids can order 3D prints of their creations and we will ship/deliver/drop-off their final creations.

This curriculum involves using mini-robotics kits which are designed to develop and improve: Critical thinking, C reativity & Imagination, Engineering skills, and Decision making. We will be including coding into the curriculum and several unplugged exercises to further strengthen their logical and analytical thinking. The integration of hardware and software will enable kids to better visualize what they code. A significant chunk of the curriculum time will be devoted to journeying with the micro:bit, taking them from their first use of a block programming language to writing and evaluating algorithms, becoming a confident coder, and beyond! Kids will be required to purchase mini-robotics kits ($30-$40).

How much do you know about resources available to seniors in Cupertino? There are a variety of organizations and programs in and around Cupertino that help address the needs of seniors relating to technology, housing, food supply, transportation, and mental and physical health and well-being. The City wants to know what resources you may or may not be aware of.

Take our senior resources assessment survey at engagecupertino.org/seniorresources • A hard copy of the survey can be picked up at the Senior Center, Quinlan Community Center, or Cupertino Library. • The survey closes on Friday, December 3 at 11:59 p.m. Thank you for helping the City assess what resources the senior population in Cupertino is aware of and uses most frequently.

In consideration of the City of Cupertino accepting my application, participation, or entry into this ACTIVITY, I agree to release, waive, and discharge any and all claims for damages, death, personal injury, or property damage which I may have, or which hereafter accrue to me, against the City as a result of my participation in the ACTIVITY. This release is intended to discharge the City, its City Council, boards and commissions, officers, agents, employees, servants and volunteers, any other involved municipality or public agency (hereinafter, Indemnitees) from and against any and all liability arising out of or connected in any way with my participation in the ACTIVITY, even though that liability may arise out of the negligence or carelessness of other participants or the active or passive negligence of Indemnitees. I further understand that accidents and injuries can result from the ACTIVITY; knowing the risks, nevertheless, I agree to assume those risks, and to release and hold harmless the Indemnitees who (through negligence or carelessness) might otherwise be liable to me (or my heirs or assigns) for damages. In consideration for being permitted to participate in the ACTIVITY, I agree for myself, my heirs, administrators, executors, and assigns not to sue the City or any of the Indemnitees for any injury, death, damage, or loss of personal property that may arise out of, or in connection with, my participation in the ACTIVITY from whatever cause, including the active or passive negligence of the City or other participants, except for the sole negligence or willful misconduct of the City. Should a third party make a charge or claim against the City, I agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the City from any and all claims, demands, actions or suits, and any other legal, administrative or regulatory proceeding arising out of, or in connection with, my participation in the ACTIVITY. I understand this agreement and the promises contained herein are binding on myself and my heirs, administrators, executors and assigns, and shall be interpreted as broad and inclusive as allowed by law. If a court of competent jurisdiction declares any portion of this agreement invalid, the remainder of the agreement shall continue in full force and effect.
