Introduce your child to the water through songs, games, and group activities. Discover basic skills such as water entry and exits, floats, glides, arm and leg movements, and water safety. This class is one-parent to one-child ratio and parent must accompany child in the water at all times.

Your child will spend a fun and educational week exploring the natural wonders of McClellan Ranch Preserve and the Stevens Creek Corridor! Using all their senses they will explore the Preserve to learn secrets about the animals, plants, insects, and trees that live there. They will also enjoy nature crafts, stories, and games. This beginning class assumes no previous knowledge of metalworking but any shop experience will be helpful. Class starts with basic safety, fire management, and hammering technique. Next, you will learn tapering, bending, and shaping while also being introduced to more advanced methods. Finally, you will use these techniques to make your own item, such as a hook or keychain. This class provides a brief but tantalizing introduction to the blacksmithing world and prepares you for the next level, Intermediate Blacksmithing with Focus on Projects. Family-Friendly Introduction to Nature 6Y+

Learn to identify some of the beautiful wildflowers that grow in the area, as well as how to identify and avoid plants such as Poison Oak and Poison Hemlock. We will also discuss how to safely interact with and avoid potentially dangerous animals like Black Widows and how to distinguish a harmless Gopher snake from the venomous Western Rattlesnake. Class will begin in the EEC with a slideshow highlighting some of the Bay Area’s outstanding plants and animals, as well as interacting with some of the animal ambassadors in the nature center. Following this, we will venture out for a nature hike around the Preserve to see what we can find! Participants should plan to bring a full water bottle, and wear close-toed shoes, and clothing appropriate for being outside for up to an hour. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian also registered for the class.

Guide Dogs for the Blind and Marin Civic Center

Visit the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus in San Rafael for an informative walking tour that includes stops at the residential courtyard, the training courtyard, and Learning Lab at their Puppy Center.

Conclude your wonderful day with a private behindthe-scenes tour of the Marin County Civic Center designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The highlight of the day is a beautiful bay cruise, where you will set sail and enjoy spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline and waterfront, the majestic Golden Gate Bridge, and notorious Alcatraz Island. Get up-close with the wild inhabitants of the bay, including seagulls, pelicans, harbor porpoises, dolphins, and sea lions. There will be plenty of photo opportunities, so keep your camera handy!

Spend a day in this quaint village by the sea, without having to drive or worry about parking! Carmelby-the-Sea is a community rich in the history and traditions of early California. Highlighting more than 90 art studios and galleries, it also boasts numerous antique shops, loads of boutiques, and many of small, intimate bakeries, cafes, and restaurants. Carmel promises hours of discovery as you enjoy the peaceful, European ambiance while strolling through winding streets courtyards. You may feel like exploring Carmel Mission and the Mission ranch or the sand at Carmel beach. You decide, it’s your day!

Next, you will head over to TCHO chocolate for a tour of their state-of-the-art factory to learn about the fascinating chocolate making process and taste some of their award-winning chocolate. For your no-host lunch, you will get to explore the gourmet North Shattuck district where legendary Berkeley hotspots and a host of exciting options await. Conclude this decadent day at Takara Sake with a tour of their museum, learn more about the ancient art of sake making, and enjoy a tasting of still and sparking sake.

Discover the scenic olive orchard at Olivina in Livermore. Owner Charles Crohare will share his knowledge in the art of olive oil tasting. Take in the beautiful view of the Olivina orchard, sample a variety of specialty olive oils, and learn about this hidden agricultural treasure.

You will explore Livermore's charming downtown which offers a variety of dining options. Some options include the Zepher Grill and Bar, First Street Alehouse, and Lemongrass Thai Restaurant. Afterwards, you will venture to California's oldest wine growing region located in the Livermore Valley. When you arrive at the historic landmark, Concannon Winery, you will have ample time to enjoy the spectacular view, visit the gift shop, and sample wine at your leisure before concluding the day.

Railroad Square and the Schulz Museum

See the largest collection of original Peanuts artwork in the world at the Charles M. Schulz Museum and explore Santa Rosa’s historic Railroad Square.

Our docent-led tour of this fun and fascinating museum will be the perfect opportunity to explore one of the most popular comic strips of the 20th century. Here, you can laugh at Schulz’s original comic strips, view a re-creation of Schulz’s art studio, and dive into their chronicle of his early art.

Railroad Square is the historic heart of downtown Santa Rosa since the first trains arrived in the 1870’s. Activity Withdrawals

Withdraws must be requested in writing or in-person at least eight calendar days prior to the start of the activity for a full refund.

1-day Classes/Events

Refunds must be requested in writing at least eight calendar days prior to the start of the 1-day class/event.

Activity Cancellations

Activity not reaching required minimum enrollment may be canceled. Participants are notified by phone and given option to transfer to another activity or get a full refund.

50+ Travel

Individual cancellations must be filled from the waitlist before a refund can be issued. For individual cancellations, an administration fee of $10 will be assessed, and the remaining balance will be refunded. A full refund will be issued if a trip is canceled by the Senior Center.

50+ Luncheons

Individual cancellations must be filled from the waitlist before a refund can be issued. A full refund will be issued if a luncheon is canceled by the Senior Center.

Separate Policies

There are no refunds for Drop-In or Day Passes. Separate policies apply to Preschool and Sports Center Memberships. Please inquire before registering.

Refund Request

Requests must be submitted in writing and must include participant’s name, address, phone number, name and activity number of the class, and reason for withdrawal.

Original payments made by credit card are refunded to the credit card and may take up to two weeks to process. Payments made by check or cash are refunded by check and may take up to six weeks to process.

To protect the sensitive information in our customers’ accounts, we will not disseminate information over the phone or without identification in-person.

Resident Fee

Activity participants living in Cupertino zip code 95014 are eligible for a resident discount rate. Proof of residency may be requested.

Waitlists

If the class you requested is filled, you may be placed on a waitlist, free of charge. If the class becomes available, we will call you. Payment is due within 24 hours.

Age Requirement

Where an age is indicated, the participant must be that age by the first day of class. Proof of age may be required.

Class Attendance

Class attendance is limited to the registered participants only. Sorry, no children in adult classes and no adults in children's classes.

Make-up Classes

There are no make-ups for classes you don’t attend. On occasion, a class/activity will be canceled due to weather, instructor availability, or unforeseen emergencies.

If Cupertino Parks and Recreation cancels a class meeting, a refund will be issued, or a make-up class will be offered if the schedule permits.

Class Check-in/Check-out

All children 0-14 years of age must be checked in and out of classes and activities by a parent or guardian. Please come into the classroom and see the instructor to check your child in and out.

Declined Credit Card

If your credit card is declined, Cupertino Parks and Recreation staff will contact you to request payment. If your payment is not received within 24 hours, your registration will be canceled.

Returned Check

There will be a service fee for each returned check.

Exact amount required for cash payment.

Scholarships

Limited scholarship grants are available for youth recreation programs and classes. Our scholarships program is administered by the West Valley Community Services. To apply, contact WVCS or call (408) 255-8033 for more information.

Must be a Cupertino resident or attending a school within the CUSD.
