Congratulations Pat Patterson on your retirement
Pat has been a lifelong dedicated parks and recreation professional and the impact he has had spans generations. Pat has spent over 25 years of his career at King County Parks and 19 years at Covington Parks and Recreation.

Early in his career, Pat was a beach lifeguard which turned into serving various roles in the aquatic profession. The variety of roles he has had throughout his career is impressive; he has lifeguarded, taught swim lessons and pretty much every aquatic class there is, coached swimming and diving, served as a pool operator, and managed aquatic facilities. Pat transitioned into managing recreation and cultural arts programs where he organized events, managed recreation and athletic programs, developed cultural and public arts programs, supported city commissions, and has served as the department head from time to time.
Pat's contributions to the parks and recreation field extend to involvement with Washington Recreation and Parks Association (especially the aquatic section), National Recreation and Park Association, American Red Cross (especially the instructor trainer committee), Washington State Drowning Prevention Coalition, American Swim Coaches Association, Washington Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association, Washington Festival and Events Association, and SoCo Culture.
Pat's dedication and commitment to the community is unwavering and of the highest level. Pat promotes excellence in the parks and recreation profession by leading by example, coaching/mentoring others, and leveraging his passion, experience, and wisdom to make the parks and recreation profession better. Pat has been a positive force through coaching/mentoring others at the individual or team level; through networking with his peers and colleagues to find solutions or partnerships; and through advocacy with decision makers, whether they be at the community, regional, state, or national level.

Pat has made a positive impact again and again in the communities he has served. He will be greatly missed at the City of Covington and in the parks and recreation community! Congratulations on your retirement, Pat!
Congratulations on an amazing career! It’s been an honor and privilege to be on your team all these years. Wishing you the best in retirement!
- Ethan Newton"When the City acquired the Tahoma Pool from King County we were very fortunate to also bring on board Pat Patterson, a recognized leader in the field of aquatics. Pat’s professionalism and positive attitude helped to ensure a smooth transition of services and provide excellent support to the residents of the region, teaching thousands of children how to be safe in the water. Let’s wish Pat a smooth transition to retirement and a job well done." - Dave

"Pat's success with the City of Covington comes as no surprise for those of us lucky to work with him during his long and very successful career. Pat was one of the most outstanding employees throughout his tenure with King County Parks. It didn't matter what hat he was wearing - pool operator, pool manager, WSI, WSIT, coach, or King County aquatic center manager - he excelled as a leader in every position and location. How? By being a dedicated, consummate, caring professional who always sweated the fine details and yet somehow never lost his perspective of the bigger picture...Pat, it was a pleasure to work with you all those years for King County and you have made us proud all over again with the City. So, if you are really retiring, what are you waiting for? Let's go sailing!"

"I have had the pleasure of working with Pat for over a decade. His commitment to the community and quality of work is second to none. He has been a wonderful example to me both professionally and personally. Thank you, Pat for being an incredible manager and friend. Congratulations on your retirement. You will be greatly missed! "- Jaquelyn
Ball"Pat has been my manager since I started working in an office capacity with the City of Covington in 2016. One can easily tell that Pat genuinely cares about the community and is always willing to share his wealth of industry knowledge. He has been a great mentor to me and will be very missed. Congratulations on your retirement, Pat!" -
Maia Goranson"Pat has been terrific in serving not only the Covington community, but South King County overall. We have been so grateful to have his thoughtful and steady guidance on our SoCoCulture leadership team! He is a true treasure, and we will sorely miss him - but we're so pleased that he will be moving on into his welldeserved retirement. We're sending heaps of good wishes his way!"
- Barbara McMichael"I feel priviledged having had the opportunity to work with Pat for the past 14 years at the City of Covington. From day one, we were thrown together to work on festivals and events that have come a long way and improved by leaps and bounds due in part to Pat's dedication and committment to his work and the community. Thank you for all of the fun memories, Pat, and I hope you have a wonderful retirement. You deserve it!" - Karla

"Pat is easily one of the kindest humans I have known. He is always an open ear when you need it, and his door was open if you needed someone to talk to. Pat brought so much joy to his coworkers and to the public. He has a passion for parks and recreation and we hope to carry his legacy on in his retirement. He will be greatly missed by everyone." - Shannon
Dal Santo"Congratulations Pat! Your endless help and dedication over the years as Covington's Arts Commission Staff Advisor has been much appreciated. You never sought the limelight, always working behind the scenes to make sure we had everything we needed and that things ran smoothly. You did a fabulous job! We want you to know that we saw you, we appreciated you, and we thanked our lucky stars for you. All the best to you in the future and hope your retirement is everything you hope it will be! " -
Patti Melton"Congratulations on a well-earned retirement Pat! I can still call you if anything comes up, right?" -
