ROACH BAIT

Several years ago, I was driving through Oklahoma on I-40 headed back to New Mexico. At mile marker 47, I noticed a young lady with two luggage bags and a brown paper sack, hitchhiking It was extremely hot outside so I decided to stop and offer her a ride She got in, we said our normal greetings, and we drove west We were having the normal conversation like who, what, and, where, when I noticed she had a death grip on the paper sack This was concerning to me because this was not a normal action We travelled about a mile before I asked, What’s in the sack? This woman turned to me with a focused stare and said, “It’s none of your dang business” Well, this did not sit good with me since I was doing her a favor, I asked again What is in the sack? Now she appeared angry and screamed “It’s none of your business!” I told her I will not allow anything illegal in my vehicle and if you do not tell me what is in the sack, you are out, right here right now! She slowly loosened her grip on the sack but just as quickly tightened and said in an eerie, almost cryptic tone, “it’s none of your business”. I pulled over on the interstate just inside the Texas state line and told her to get out She opened the door and kicked out one of her bags she had her feet on, and stepped out, yelling at me the whole time I pushed the other luggage out of the door onto the shoulder and drove away I drove for roughly an hour, thinking of what just occurred and kept thinking, that was the weirdest thing ever! I stopped in Amarillo to fill up with fuel and was throwing “road garbage” away when I noticed, tucked between the passenger door and the seat was that brown paper sack this crazy woman was holding onto for dear life I took the sack, opened it, and threw it away! Now if you are concerned about the fact, I picked up a hitchhiker or kicked her out on the highway, I have to say this was several years ago If you are wondering about what was in the sack I have to say, It’s none of your business!!!!
