DearNeighbors&Friends:

A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who participated in and helped make the 2024 Carlsbad Energy Summit a success. This event was a fantastic opportunity to engage with experts, industry leaders, and community members on the future of energy in our region. We celebrated the 100-year anniversary of oil and gas in New Mexico, and it was inspiring to hear about the innovationsandprogressbeingmadeacrosstheenergysector.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Spirit of the Workforce Awards. This year, we honored Brette Perez from Chevron, James Aguilar from Targa Resources, Claudia Daubney from Phillips 66, and Brandon Herring from Occidental Petroleum. Each of these outstanding individuals has demonstrated remarkable dedication to safety, leadership, and community service, making significant contributions to both their companies and the broader Carlsbad community.Congratulationsagaintoallofthewinners!

Another exciting part of the summit was our annual Energy Summit Golf Tournament. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Assistant Fire Chief John Majerus’s team, sponsored by Devon Energy. They generously donated their winnings to United Way, the charity of their choice. Through this generous donation, United Way will be able to assist other local non-profits in our community.Actslikethisshowcasethestrongsenseofcommunitywehaveherein Carlsbad, wheresuccessissharedforthebenefitofthoseinneed.

Aswelookforwardtothecomingmonths,Novembermarkstheofficialstartofthe holiday season, and I want to wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving! This time of year, reminds us all to reflect on the blessings we share as a community, and I’m truly grateful for the kindness and support that defines Carlsbad.

Ialsowanttohighlightsomeofthefestiveeventswehaveplannedtokickoffthe season. On November 30th, we will light the tree at Halagueno Arts Park and unveil a brand-new tree for this year’s celebration. This will be a wonderful community event, and we encourage you all to join us for this special moment. Mainstreet Carlsbad will also kick off their annual Electric Light Parade, with this year’s theme being Candy Land. We’re excited to see how creative our local businesses and groups get with their floats! In addition, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce will be lighting their tree on the island to mark the beginning of ChristmasonthePecos, oneofourmostbelovedholidaytraditions.

Regarding community updates, we’ve recently secured funding to help maintain the infrastructure of the Double Eagle Wellfield, which supplies water to both Carlsbad and WIPP. This project will improve the long-term reliability of our water system, whichisavitalresourceforourgrowingcommunity.

As the holiday season approaches, I want to sincerely thank each of you for continuing to make Carlsbad a wonderful place to live. I look forward to celebratingtheseasonwithyouatourupcomingevents.

Public Notice: Pecos River

Aquatic Vegetation Removal

The City of Carlsbad is currently removing invasive aquatic vegetation from the Pecos River within its limits. Crews will work continuously over the next several weeks and on a routine basis moving forward. The aquatic vegetation is being removed from the river and placed on the riverbanks for City trucks to haul away.

The City appreciates your understanding during this process. We all want the river to be healthy and beautiful. Please avoid the work areas, both in and around the river, for your safety and the safety of the Crews. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
