Health in the Workplace

Just about anybody can have healthy behaviors for a few days or weeks. The key is to maintain healthy behaviors for years. To help maintain a safe and healthy workplace, employees of the City of Burleson have access to WellCoach services through Alliance Work Partners (AWP) as part of the Employee Assistance Program. When employees access WellCoach services, they will receive a personalized assessment and action plan based on individual health needs, plus referrals to screened coaches and free educational materials to support their plan. Coaches stay in touch to assist with implementing the wellness plan. To register, visit awpnow.com, and use the registration code provided in emails forwarded by Deidre Hall with ‘EAP publications’ in the subject line.

Service

A Message from the City Manager As I wrap up my first three months in Burleson, I wanted to take a moment to share my appreciation for all of your hard work. We truly have a great staff in Burleson, and I am proud to be part of this organization and community. I consistently hear about how our staff goes above and beyond expectations to deliver outstanding customer service on a weekly basis. Thank you for all of your dedication and support to make Burleson such a great place.

Bryan Langley, City Manager

In my role as City Manager, my plan is to build on all of the positive momentum to make Burleson an even better place to live, learn, work and play. I want to provide an engaging, transparent and inclusive workplace for all of the employees who choose to be part of our team. Employee engagement and collaboration on key decisions is very important to me. To that end, I recently formed a benefits committee comprised of city employees to study ways in which our health insurance plan can be improved. This committee is currently meeting with the city’s benefits consultant and working to identify benefit plan options that employees are interested in pursuing. Additionally, I have also created a crossdepartmental IT Governance Committee to engage our employees in prioritizing and implementing new technology that will improve our operations. I will be

providing more information to you on these initiatives in the coming weeks, but I wanted to let you know how we are approaching these two important topics. Finally, I also wanted to mention that I am working with staff to complete the upcoming budget. I will be submitting the budget to the City Council for their consideration at the end of July, and following their deliberations, the Council will approve the new budget in September. One of my top goals in this budget is to address the compensation plan for the city, including public safety. We will be presenting some preliminary information to the Council on this topic in mid-July, and I will continue to keep you informed as we progress in finalizing the budget recommendations. Again, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. I look forward to continuing to work with all of you to provide outstanding service to Burleson.
