Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library

The Library reopened at the end of 2016 and offers a wide selection of books, movies, magazines, audiobooks, and e-books. In this modernized community space, we offer teen programs, adult classes, weekly children’s events, public meeting spaces, study rooms, genealogy resources, and more. Visitors may use desktop computers, laptops, or Chromebooks, along with free Wi-Fi.

Antique Carousel

Fireman’s Park - 910 North Park Street The Antique Carousel, rich in community history, is a staple feature in Fireman’s Park. For more information please visit: cityofbrenham.org/parks. March 1 - October 31: MondayFriday, 10:00am - 4:00pm, by reservation only. Minimum of $40 to reserve the carousel. Open to the public weekends ($1.00 per rider): Saturdays - 11:00am - 4:00pm Sundays - 1:00pm - 4:00pm Children 12 years or younger may ride the hobby horses. Competition Pool

The competition pool is used for lap and recreational swimming and aerobics classes. It is home to our Brenham High School and Junior High swim teams, the Dolphins, and the Brenham Swim Club.

Therapy Pool

The therapy pool is intended for young children under the age of three and over the age of 18. It is equipped with a wheelchair ramp and chair lift.

Outdoor Leisure Pool

Book a pool party! You can party at the Blue Bell Aquatic Center year round! We have a party hostess on staff to assist you with your party planning needs. Parties During Operating Hours

You may bring a cake and decorations. Single serve juice boxes are allowed. No other outside food or drinks are allowed. Minimum of 6 guests per party. Admission is $5.00 per swimmer and $2.00 for non-swimmers. Birthday child is FREE. $25.00 non-refundable deposit is required to hold date & time. Parties can last up to two hours.

Private Parties After Hours

Private parties must be reserved at least two weeks prior to the event; $100 deposit is required. Fee includes guests admission and lifeguard coverage. No alcohol or glass containers are permitted inside the facility. All rules which apply to the general public must be observed.

Camp CASCADE

4 hours Camp CASCADE is a camp designed to teach our youth, ages 7-13, some of the basics of survival skills, swimming skills, rescue skills, CPR & first aid skills, as well as some lifeguarding skills. We will touch on swim strokes, diving, rescues, and some basic lifesaving skills. Each themed week we will take it to another level with games, projects, crafts, swimming, and a ton of adventurous fun. This is one week of half-day camp designed for fun and learning. Swim Lessons

Time specified in chart below Sea Turtles - We will explore and practice entering and exiting the water, introduce strokes, proper floats, and learn to hold their breath. Sea Otters - We will explore treading, gliding on their front and backs, submerging their entire body, and stroke techniques. Sharks - We will explore stroke techniques for 5 different strokes, floats of at least 30 seconds, and deep water skills. Dolphins -We will explore and practice 25 yard swims, treading water, flipping in the water, dolphin kick, rotary breathing, and diving. Flying Fish - We will explore 50 yard swims for each of the five strokes, open/flip turns, diving, butterfly, and improving stroke form and technique. Blue Whales - We will explore 100 yard swims for each of the six strokes, diving from the starting block, improve stamina, and improve stroke form and technique. Cost:

Water Babies

30 minutes Water Babies is designed for participants six months to three years of age. It is required that an adult accompany the child. In this class, participants will get comfortable being in the water, entering the water, blowing bubbles, underwater exploration, and floating on front and back (with or without assistance). Cost:

Private Swim Lessons

Private lessons are conducted by Blue Bell Aquatic Center Water Safety Instructors. Fee per student is $70.00 and consists of four 30 minute lessons. Instructors can be requested or will be assigned by BBAC management. Private lessons are dependent upon instructor availability.

BBAC FIT Challenge 7 Seas Challenge

Swim with a purpose with the Seven Seas Club. We help you keep track of your laps. 1 mile = 36 laps. We will track your miles as you swim the 7 seas and when you complete 150 miles you earn a free month pass for yourself. Make your laps count!

Travel Texas Challenge

Date Register Anytime Travel the State of Texas. Track your workout time. Location Therapy Pool 1 hour = 4 miles traveled. We will track your miles as $5.00 you travel from Burton to Bellville, down to Houston, Cost make your way to Beaumont and Lufkin, then up to Dallas, down to Austin, and back to Brenham. When you complete 193 hours you gain a free month pass for yourself. See how far you can go – sign up today!

TPPC Awards Texas Public Pool Council Award - 2015 Agency of the Year Texas Public Pool Council President’s Award - 2015 Tammy Jaster The Blue Bell Aquatic Center was awarded Class III Agency of the Year. This award is given to an outstanding facility in a city population of 39,999 or less. The President’s Awards are presented to members outstanding in their field and help promote water safety. Awards were presented at the 2016 Texas Public Pool Conference.

BBAC Fit 100 Yard Sprint

Competition is a great way to motivate yourself to be fit and active. With the BBAC Fit 100 yard sprint, you will be able to compete with other swimmers in our community.

American Red Cross Certification Courses Lifeguard Training

Dates

30 hours Teaches participants the skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course prepares participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning Location and injuries. Dates February 25 5 hours March 18 This class is designed for ARC Lifeguard certifications March 31 soon to expire or recently expired certifications. April 21 Participants will start with all prerequisite skills in the April 29 water. Participants must be prepared for in-water and Location Blue Bell Aquatic Center land skills as well as rescues. Following testing of all Fridays 5:00pm - 10:00pm skills, participants must take and pass written exam. Time Saturdays 8:30am - 1:30pm

Lifeguard Instructor Training (LGI)

30 hours Trains lifeguards to teach the Lifeguard Training Course. Prerequisites: Minimum age of 18, must be a current lifeguard, must pass a skills challenge of basic lifeguard training, as well as the basic lifeguard training written test by 80% or better.

Walk with a Doc

Date 4th Saturday each month Walk with a Doc is a walking program for everyone interested Location Hohlt Park in taking steps for a healthier lifestyle. What better way to Time 9:00am - 10:00am start your weekend than on your feet making strides to help your heart and improve your general health. While you walk Cost Free at your own pace, you will have the opportunity to have questions answered by local physicians. Lead physicians: Dr. Eric Alford, Family Medicine and Dr. Jennifer Jones, Pediatrician. Walk with a Doc will not meet in November or December.

Blinn Baseball Spring Training Camp

It’s back! The City of Brenham and Blinn College Buccaneer baseball team will host a three-week Spring Training Camp beginning January 23, 2017. During this time, participants will interact with collegiate athletes and learn the fundamentals of “America’s greatest past time”- hitting, throwing, catching, and fielding. What is Pickleball? Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of badminton, tennis, and ping-pong. It is played on a badminton-sized court, 20’ x 44’ with wooden paddles, a wiffle ball and a net that is lowered to 34”. Players volley the ball back and forth to try to score on the opposition. It was designed to be easy to learn for people of all ages and athletic abilities. In the past 10 years the growth of Pickleball has exploded mainly in senior communities throughout the United States. Pickleball courts can be found at Jackson Street Park.

American Red Cross CPR & First Aid Recertification

Taking CPR training just once in your life is not enough. Every two years your CPR certification expires and recertification is needed. This is because CPR is not something that we use in our everyday lives so it can easily be forgotten. Like anything in life, if you don’t use it, you often lose it. A review course is simply a review of the material followed up with an exam. You will review all of your skills and retake the exam. Please make sure to study up on the skills before coming. KIDFISH

Date September 30 Hundreds of pounds of catfish are dumped into the Location Blue Bell Aquatic Center outdoor leisure pool and anglers of all ages can attempt to Time 8:30am - 12:30pm hook the big one. Bring your own pole or use the ones on site. KIDFISH promotes fishing, the outdoors, and simply Cost Free spending time with family. Children can compete to reel in the largest catfish. Trophies are awarded to the top catchers. This event is brought to you each year from our generous sponsors: Brenham Elks Lodge 979, Blue Bell Creameries, Germania Insurance, and a host of additional donors. The competition portion of this event is for children ages 2-16.

Downtown Brenham Join us the first weekend in December for our annual Christmas Stroll and Lighted Parade. The weekend will be Cost Free filled with fun festivities including entertainment, Sip, Shop, and Stroll, Breakfast with Santa, and much more. And don’t miss the very popular lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday evening beginning at 6pm. This light-filled, old-fashioned parade winds through the streets of downtown and finishes with a special appearance from Santa Claus. Downtown businesses will be open late!
