Hi! I'm Buzzy the Bee and I'm so excited to share my favorite city in the world with you: Bee Cave, Texas!
Can you guess how the
City of Bee Cave got its name?
Bee
used to have caves full of bees!
People were living in this area for many years, when it was mainly trees, hills and farms. One day, in 1870, they decided they wanted a post office. But, they needed a name for their town, so the mailman would know where to deliver the mail. Since they saw caves full of bees near little Barton Creek, they came up with the name Bee Cave!
Can you spot the bee "cousin" I'm talking to?
The city has grown a lot since then. 10,000 people now live in Bee Cave and they love all the fun activities that keep them busy and buzzing (just like me)!
What is your favorite place to visit in Bee Cave?
I'll show you some of my top spots!
This book is un-beelievable!
I love how the Bee Cave Public Library is always swarming with activity!
It's a great place to find a fun book, make new friends, play with some toys and participate in exciting activities (sometimes they even bring in cool snakes and animals that we get to touch). I really love their summer reading program and, of course, the book festival named after me: Books and Bees!
There are two playgrounds, lots of space to run around in and even a big dog park. We are also getting some new attractions at the park, like a play-for-all playground where kids of all abilities can have fun, and maybe even a splash pad!
Can you help us with ideas? If you had your own park what would you put there? The Hill Country is so bee-autiful!
This is a sweet spot!
When I want to bee inspired, I play in the Bee Cave Sculpture Garden!
I love the sculpture of the huge bee hive. The Bee Cave Arts Foundation is even building a mushroom playhouse for us. And it includes art created by Bee Cave kids!
I love to explore the trails in Bee Cave. My favorite place to buzz by is the bat tunnel near the park. Listen closely and you can hear the Bee Cave bats ! The City wants to connect all neighborhoods in Bee Cave with our trails. How sweet is that? A great time to visit the trail and pass the bat tunnel is during our Haunted Trail Walk.
Oh, and fun fact: bats are pollinators too!
Wow, nice hive!Don't worry, I'm bee-ing careful!
The Hill Country Galleria has great shops and yummy places to eat. I also love all the festivals there!
A book festival in the spring, musicals in the summer, live music in the fall, and ice skating in the winter. Bee Cave really is the bee's knees! (Remember, that means it's great!)
Have you heard of the West Pole?
You're in it!
The West Pole is located on a ranch here in Bee Cave, which happens to be on the 98th meridian.
Santa Claus lives at the North Pole. You'll find penguins at the South Pole. And Texans get to live at the West Pole. The Texas Legislature recognized Bee Cave, Texas, as the official location of the West Pole.
I vote for a Bee Day!
Bee Cave has its own version of Groundhog Day: Armadillo Day!
The West Pole is also the home of the annual Armadillo Day celebration.
Bee Cave Bob comes out on February 2nd. If he sees his shadow, that means we'll have a long winter. No shadow means winter is about to buzz off.
Fun Fact: The Armadillo is the official small mammal of Texas!
Thanks for joining me on a tour of Bee Cave! What's your favorite place we visited today? As you can see, Bee Cave really is the sweetest city in Texas!
All this adventure has made me hungry. Time for me to buzz off and get some yummy honey.
