DEAR BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS,
I am so excited you are joining me for this Be Te Light Bible Study! As we come together to learn and grow, it’s my prayer that the Holy Spirit would challenge and lead us in ways we have never experienced before. I pray that the eyes of our hearts would receive revelation, power, and insight into the idea that you are the light of the world! Yes, you! Do you know as Christ followers that is what Jesus calls you and me?
Mathew 5:14 - Jesus speaking “You are the light of the world.”
What an exciting and humbling responsibility He has entrusted us with! During our times together we’re going to discuss what it means to practically Be Te Light that scripture talks about. We will talk openly about some of the things that would atempt to dim our lights and diminish our ability to fully use our God-given infuence to spread the love and truth of Jesus. Our ultimate goal is to walk away from our time encouraged and challenged to be more like Jesus by obediently and confdently stepping into His challenge of being the light of the world!
It goes without saying that the world we are living in is growing darker, but even so, the light shines brightest in the darkness! As we learn from God’s Word and remain connected to the Light Source, we will be encouraged and empowered to shine bright. I love what Psalm 19:8 in the Passion Translation declares for us, “Te revelation-light of His Word makes my spirit shine radiant.”
It is God’s deep desire for us to Be Te Light – and He will surely help us! So let’s dive in and see what He has for us!

LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE
Tis week we are going to learn what it means to Be Te Light. What does that look like in our everyday lives? How do we even do this? Where do we begin? What is the importance? One of the amazing women in the Bible who shines as a beautiful example for us to learn from is Tabitha. Her story is found in the New Testament book of Acts and she is our focus of today’s study.
Acts 9:36-42 (TPT)
Now, there was a follower of Jesus who lived in Joppa. Her Aramaic name, Tabitha, means “gazelle.” She lived her life doing kind things for others and serving the poor. But then she became very ill and died. After the disciples prepared her body for burial, they laid her in an upstairs room.
When the believers heard that Peter was nearby in Lydda, they sent two men with an urgent message for him to come without delay. So Peter went with them back to Joppa, and upon arriving they led him to the upper room.
Tere were many widows standing next to Peter, weeping. One after another showed him the tunics and other garments that Tabitha had made to bless others. Peter made them all leave the room. Ten he knelt down and prayed. Turning to the dead body, he said, “Tabitha, rise up!”
At once she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Ten he called for the believers and all the widows to come and see that she was alive! Te news spread all over the city of Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.

LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Have you allowed areas of inadequacy, doubt, or fear to convince you to remove yourself from being a light-bearer? What are some of the lies you have believed?
Mathew 5:16
“Let YOUR light so shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
2. Tabitha’s good works weren’t complex and lofty; she simply used what she was good at to meet a need she saw. Often times we overcomplicate being a light-bearer! Let’s ask ourselves some simple questions: What are you good at? What needs do you see? What captures your heart? What are you curious about?
Acts 9:36 (TPT)
She lived her life doing kind things for others and serving the poor.
3. Tabitha helped clothe people in dignity, value, and worth who otherwise had been classifed as marginalized, vulnerable, and shamed. Who do you know in your life who is clothing themselves in garments that are unbecoming and were not meant for them? How can you practically help them see the garments they are worthy of wearing?
Acts 9:39 (TPT)
One after another showed him the tunics and other garments that Tabitha had made to bless others.
4. Tabitha’s life didn’t go completely as planned, yet God used the detour of her unexpected circumstances to bring about a miracle for others. What area have you considered a weakness or a failure, thus deeming you unqualifed to be included in God’s purposes? What area(s) is God asking you to “Rise Up” so you can be a part of someone else’s life-change?
Acts 9:40-42 (TPT)
Turning to the dead body, he said, “Tabitha, rise up!” At once she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Ten he called for the believers and all the widows to come and see that she was alive! Te news spread all over the city of Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.

LIGHT IN THE DARK
Today I want to talk about how discouraging and desperate situations that dare to dim our light can actually be turned for good when we choose to share light with others.
1 Samuel 30:1-4
David and his men reached Ziklag on the third day. Now the Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. Tey had atacked Ziklag and burned it, and had taken captive the women and everyone else in it, both young and old. Tey killed none of them, but carried them of as they went on their way. When David and his men reached Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fre and their wives and sons and daughters taken captives. So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep.
1 Samuel 30:6
David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was biter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
1 Samuel 30:9-12
David and the six hundred men with him came to the Besor Valley, where some stayed behind. Two hundred of them were too exhausted to cross the valley, but David and the other four hundred continued the pursuit. Tey found an Egyptian in a feld and brought him to David. Tey gave him water to drink and food to eat— part of a cake of pressed fgs and two cakes of raisins. He ate and was revived, for he had not eaten any food or drunk any water for three days and three nights.
1 Samuel 30:13-15
David asked him, “Who do you belong to? Where do you come from?” He said, “I am an Egyptian, the slave of an Amalekite. My master abandoned me when I became ill three days ago. We raided the Negev of the Kerethites, some territory belonging to Judah and the Negev of Caleb. And we burned Ziklag.” David asked him, “Can you lead me down to this raiding party?” He led David down, and there they were, scatered over the countryside, eating, drinking and reveling because of the great amount of plunder they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from Judah. David fought them from dusk until the evening of the next day, and none of them got away, except four hundred young men who rode of on camels and fed. David recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives. Nothing was missing: young or old, boy or girl, plunder or anything else they had taken. David brought everything back. He took all the focks and herds, and his men drove them ahead of the other livestock, saying, “Tis is David’s plunder.”

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Are there areas in your life where you are currently discouraged, disappointed, or full of despair?
1 Samuel 30:3-4
When David and his men reached Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fre and their wives and sons and daughters taken captives. So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep.
*If you are doing this study in a group, take some time to pray for each other after answering this question.
2. From our teaching we learned to encourage means to fasten upon, to seize. In what ways can we encourage ourselves in the Lord?
1 Samuel 30:6 (KJV)
…but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
3. What areas do you need to push past self-pity and begin to give away the very thing you need?
1 Samuel 30:11-12
Tey found an Egyptian in a feld and brought him to David. Tey gave him water to drink and food to eat— part of a cake of pressed fgs and two cakes of raisins. He ate and was revived, for he had not eaten any food or drunk any water for three days and three nights.
4. To be an encouragement to yourself and others, can you think of a time where God has truly given you more, because of a difcult or discouraging situation you’ve walked through?
1 Samuel 30:18-20
David recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives. Nothing was missing: young or old, boy or girl, plunder or anything else they had taken. David brought everything back. He took all the focks and herds, and his men drove them ahead of the other livestock, saying, “Tis is David’s plunder.”

Today we are going to discuss having an “atitude of gratitude.” You might be thinking to yourself whatdoesgratitudeandbeingthelighthaveanythingto dowitheachother?I’ve found in life when I’ve felt most frustrated, unsetled, and discontent, I have often been avoiding, many times unintentionally, the scriptural principle of gratitude. Tankfulness has a profound way of shifting our focus from ourselves, our situations, our shortcomings, and our problems towards the bigger picture. It is then that we can see endless possibilities to be the light Jesus challenges us to be.
Luke 17:11-19
Now on His way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As He was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met Him. Tey stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” When He saw them, He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked Him—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Ten He said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. All ten believed, but one saw! I have a question for you, what do you see? Do you tend to see the good or the bad in circumstances?
Luke 17:15
One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.
2. Tankfulness isn’t as common as we would like to think. What can we do to train our eyes to “look beyond” the surface of situations and begin to see things to be thankful for?
Luke 17:17-18
Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”
3. Have you ever thought of a lack of thankfulness having the ramifcations of a darkened heart? How do you feel ingratitude could lead to this end?
Romans 1:21
For although they knew God, they neither glorifed Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened
4. Let’s put this idea of thankfulness into practice. Let’s take a few moments to share a few things you are thankful for with each other. If you are doing this study alone, take some time to write down a few things you are grateful for.

RIGHT OR LIGHT?
Today we’re going to dive into a topic that will apply to every single person sitting down for this study. Why? Because we live in a broken world with broken people that will give us plenty of opportunities to exercise the way of forgiveness. As we will see from our study this week, God doesn’t want His people holding grudges because when we do, it prohibits our light from shining bright. In life, we will often have to choose between being right or being light. My prayer is that we choose the later!
Today’s passage is small, but packs a powerful punch of truth! Let’s learn from two ladies who were strong, infuential, and worked closely with the Apostle Paul, but as we will learn they, unfortunately, chose right instead of light.
Philippians 4:2-3 (MSG)

I urge Euodia and Syntyche to iron out their diferences and make up. God doesn’t want his children holding grudges.
2. Puting our grudges through the flter of the Lordship of Jesus Christ is easier said than done. Are you currently puting your hurts and unforgiveness through the flter of Lordship or of your feelings, emotions, and opinions?
Philippians 4:2
I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.
3. Do you help and encourage people around you to drop their grudges, or do you help them carry them longer? How can we help each other work things out?

HOWEVER IT MAY LOOK FOR YOU, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP OF DROPPING GRUDGES AND CHOOSING FORGIVENESS. IT’S IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT DROPPING GRUDGES OFTENTIMES BEGINS IN OUR HEARTS, ESPECIALLY WITH THOSE DEEP HURTS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY OTHER PEOPLE. FOR SOME OF YOU, SAYING A PRAYER TO GOD FOR HELP TO FORGIVE IS A HUGE STEP IN YOUR PROCESS. OTHERS OF YOU, WHEN IT’S POSSIBLE, MAY NEED TO VERBALLY FORGIVE SOMEONE. THE MOST IMPORTANT PLACE TO KEEP THE GRUDGE DROPPED IS IN YOUR OWN HEART…DROP IT AND DON’T PICK IT BACK UP!

FEAR FADES YOUR LIGHT
Tere is great potential and possibility on the other side of our fears. Once we are connected to the Source (Jesus) of revelation-light, it is our voice and good deeds that become the channel for that light. But if fear can cause us to stay quiet and stay put, we lose our ability to shine our light and infuence our surroundings for Christ. As we talk about fear and its efects on us in this week’s study, I want you to be reminded of the mighty power that lives inside of you: the Holy Spirit, who is able to help you raise your voice and walk in boldness into your deepest, darkest fears. Let’s grow together in courage!
Numbers 13:1-2
Te Lord said to Moses, “Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.
Numbers 13:17-20
When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, “Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country. See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many. What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortifed? How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees in it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land. (It was the season for the frst ripe grapes.)
Numbers 13:26-33
Tey came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. Tere they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. Tey gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does fow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortifed and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. Te Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hitites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.”
Ten Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”
But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t atack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. Tey said, “Te land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”

I can’t believe we are in our fnal week together! It’s amazing how fast time goes. As someone who has at times reluctantly chosen to step into the place of infuence God has invited me into, I love speaking from a place of encouragement and challenge to those who love Jesus wholeheartedly, but struggle for one reason or another with being a light-bearer. Maybe it’s inadequacy, fear, failure, insecurity, doubt, comparison or something else that seems to trip you up with this idea that you, yes YOU, have infuence and a Divine, God-given purpose.
So many individuals I have talked with over the years have a difcult time walking in the truth that they are an integral part of the body of Christ; that their Creator has them where they are for a beautiful purpose. Te truth is your individual light is important and valuable in the Kingdom of Heaven! It’s when our collective lights shine brightly together that darkness doesn’t stand a chance! YOU, my friend, have been invited to shine bright!
