Free, drop-ins All ages Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy at the Broomfield Depot Museum on Jan. 13, 2024 from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Stop in to hear speeches from King, enjoy a collaborative art project and learn more about Colorado’s Black history.

If you’d like, and in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s commitment to service, please bring gently-used warm clothing to donate. Presented by the Friends of Broomfield History in partnership with Arts and History.

Broomfield Depot Museum, 2201 W 10th Ave

Free, drop-ins All ages Bring your valentine to the Broomfield Depot Museum and make your own vintage Valentine’s Day cards! Try your hand at writing with a traditional fountain pen while learning more about the history of Valentine’s Day. Limited spaces and supplies will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bring the whole family to this interactive workshop, which will explore works from early cinema pioneer Georges Méliès and the continued influence of the “father of special effects” on film today.

Alongside the movie-concert “Right in the Eye,” these workshops offer an introduction to the movie-concert, the early days of cinema and the moving image until the advent of the cinematograph. It also looks at the discovery of Méliès’ works including viewing of short films by the Lumière brothers and by Méliès, and explanations of special effects and visual tricks.

“Right in the Eye” Live Movie Concert with Alcoléa & cie—Two Performances!

Saturday, March 9, 7 p.m. (evening performance) Sunday, March 10, 2 p.m. (matinee performance) Free, drop-ins All ages, families, adults Come enjoy a performance from Broomfield’s 2024 Residence in Artistry, Alcoléa & cie. “Right in the Eye” is an immersive concert/ cinematic experience comprised of twelve short films by Georges Méliès, a master of early cinema and a wizard of special effects. Many are familiar with his dazzling and pioneering film work from the hit 2011 Martin Scorsese movie “Hugo”.

Acclaimed French composer and musician Jean-François Alcoléa has written the original score, which unfolds in perfect symbiosis with the creative genius of Méliès. Poetic, playful and filled with surprise and delight, “Right in the Eye” is a great show for children, adults and everyone in between who loves the sweet madness of early cinema and exciting contemporary music. Following successful runs and 500 performances in Europe and in North America, the French artist and composer JeanFrançois Alcoléa continues his epic journey all over the world.

Featuring a 16-piece orchestra and a narrator who will incorporate storytelling, singing and dance in both English and Spanish, this program is designed to introduce young children to the instruments of the orchestra through a musical telling of a children’s story. This year’s theme is The Ugly Duckling and concert attendees will receive a complimentary bilingual storybook at the door.

Cultural Caravan presents Art Lande Broomfield Auditorium, 3 Community Park Road

Friday, April 5, 7 p.m.

Free, drop-ins Ages adults, 55+, families Come enjoy a night of wonderful music with Grammy-nominated and internationally renowned pianist, composer, improviser, drummer and educator Art Lande. Art has performed with a long list of the

‘who’s who’ in jazz, including Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw, Bobby Hutcherson, Steve Swallow, Charlie Haden, Kenny Wheeler, Sheila Jordan, Mark Isham, Paul McCandless, Jan Garbarek and many others.

Art is also well known for his innovative approaches to teaching piano, improvisation and ear training.

He currently has many regular students in Boulder and often travels internationally for workshops, camps and performances.

Dr. Ron McCurdy, Broomfield Out Loud pairs community members with local artists who create exhibits and performances to bring Broomfielders’ stories to life. Storytellers, like you, are everyday residents who come from all ages and backgrounds.

Discover the power of your voice and creativity with Broomfield Out Loud, an innovative project empowering the Broomfield community through storytelling and art. Share your unique story, unleash your creativity and uplift Broomfield voices by participating through collective expression.

Inspired by the “Nobody Knows: Voices (Un)muted project” led by

Broomfield Out Loud will take place in four stages through summer 2025.

Year-Long Venues and Experiences

The Broomfield Auditorium opened in 2001 with a mission to provide an affordable performance space in the City and County of Broomfield. The 286-seat auditorium hosts a variety of events and performances each year. Many are City and County of Broomfield events, but the majority of public events are from local community artists, organizations and businesses who rent the auditorium.

CSU Extension presents Earth Day Celebration and Seed Swap Broomfield Library, 3 Community Park Road

Saturday, April 20, 9:30–11:30 a.m.

Ages adults, 55+, families Get ready for the growing season with a community seed swap and Earth Day activities for all ages! If you have extra seeds, bring them to share with your neighbors, but seed donations are not required to join the fun.

Art in Public Places Take an art tour through Broomfield!

The Broomfield Art in Public Places program enlivens public space, nurtures community identity and contributes to a vibrant city through reflecting community spirit, enriching conversations, engaging community and elevating a sense of belonging.

With 119 pieces across the city, the collection boasts various kinds of artwork created by talented and diverse artists.

Broomfield Depot Museum and Crawford Honey House 2201 W 10th Ave

Open most Saturdays, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.

Free, no registration required The Broomfield Depot and the Crawford Honey House are two of the oldest extant buildings in Broomfield.

Built in 1909, the Broomfield Depot was the ‘live-in’ train depot for the Colorado and Southern Railroad.

Originally located along 120th Ave. near the grain silos, the Depot has been run as a Museum since it was moved to its current location in Zang Spur Park in 1976. The Crawford Honey House dates to 1905. It was built by the Crawford family as a place to process honey from their apiary, which housed nearly 1,000

beehives during its heyday. The Honey House was renovated in 2022 as an exhibit and programming space, and now showcases Broomfield’s agricultural history and the story of beekeeping and the Crawford family.

New Addition to the Exhibits at the Broomfield Depot Museum!

Learn how the Broomfield Depot ended up at its current location in Zang Spur Park and explore the history of the building over time. Did you know that the Depot was put on a trailer and hauled to its current location in 1976? Find out how the Depot was saved by local residents and turned into a museum that has served the community of Broomfield for over 40 years.
