Summer Adventure Camp About Adventure Camp:

Adventure Camp is a unique opportunity for youth ages 11 to 17 to be exposed to outdoor adventure activities and challenges in a fun, safe, and healthy environment. Each session will offer campers opportunities to learn life-long recreation skills and promote the positive use of free time. Our program will provide outdoor experiences that will help youth to gain self-confidence, responsibility, self-awareness, problem-solving and decision making skills.

Who May Participate:

Each Adventure Camp has different age requirements. A camper’s age is determined by their age on the first day of the camp. Campers should be able to function effectively with their peers, be able to understand and follow through with basic instructions, be physically able to hike moderate distances, and be willing to work and learn in a group setting.

Orientation Meeting

Parents/guardians and campers must attend a mandatory orientation meeting from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on either Tuesday, May 14th or Tuesday, May 28 in the Community Room of the Parks & Recreation Administration Building (1101 N. College St). You will receive a parent information packet, be informed on critical logistics, be sized for technical equipment, and meet the Adventure Staff. Please make every effort to attend one of these two meetings.

Staff Leadership:

Summer Adventure Camp will be conducted by trained summer and full-time staff with experience in outdoor skills and camper supervision. Some of our staff trainings and certifications include American Red Cross (CPR, First Aid, and lifeguarding), Wilderness Medical Institute (Wilderness First Responder), Adventure Experiences (Ropes Course), American Canoe Association (swiftwater rescue), and Christian Adventure Educators Institute (rock climbing).

Camper Equipment:

The adventure program will provide technical and camping equipment necessary for adventure activities. Personal clothing and items will be discussed at the orientation meeting. Registration fees include meals prepared while camping. Participants will be responsible for meals while traveling ($30-$100 depending on session).

Junior Counselor Program Do you ever look back at your days at camp and think that nothing could ever be as fun as those days? Do you find yourself reminiscing about the carefree days full of swimming, playing tennis, and making bird feeders out of old toilet paper tubes? Well cheer up and snap out of it because we have a NEW program just for you! You might be too old to be a camper and too young to be a camp counselor, but you are JUST RIGHT to apply to be a junior counselor at Tennis Camp or Camp Goodwater! There is an application and selection process to be a Junior Counselor. We want to be sure the Junior Counselor program is the right fit for you and it’s an opportunity for you to ask questions and learn more about whether you think you really want to be a Junior Counselor. We are limited in the number of Junior Counselors we can accept to be sure it’s a quality learning experience for participants, so sadly we won’t be able to take everyone who applies. Age: 13-16 years old Date: Summer camps run from June 3 - August 9. Each week is a new session and Junior Counselors must be able to make a commitment to 2 (two) sessions. Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm each day Location: If you would like to be a Junior Counselor with Tennis Camp, you would be at the Tennis Center each day. Junior Counselors with Camp Goodwater start and end their day at the Teen Center, but will go offsite depending on that day’s activities. Application: Each applicant must turn in a completed application form and one reference form completed by a non-family member by Monday, March 4. We will then schedule interviews and notify applicants about selection in late March. No fees are due unless applicant is selected to be a Junior Counselor. Applications can be found on-line at parks.georgetown.org and at the Recreation Center, Tennis Center, and the Parks and Recreation Administration Building. Fees:

$75 per session (week) $95 per session (week)

Residents Nonresidents

Junior Counselors must be able to commit to at least 2 sessions
