Feb. 23 - In the second game of a doubleheader, The Citadel gets its first win of the season behind a dominating performance by freshman Asher Wojciechowski. Following his nine strikeout performance, “Wojo” is named Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week. March 1 - The Citadel, joined by the University of Louisville, unveils a permanent memorial to the “Charleston 9” on the outfield wall at Riley Park. The Citadel goes on to upset the 23rd-ranked Cardinals, 1-0, in 10 innings. March 3 - Matt Reifsnider earns Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week accolades following a weekend when he recorded two wins and one save in 4.1 innings pitched, not allowing any runs to score. It was the first time the Bulldogs have earned back-to-back SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors since 1999. March 11 - The Citadel pitching dominates one of the nation’s most potent offenses at Riley Park as the Bulldogs defeated the College of Charleston, 13-1, in a non-conference game. Asher Wojciechowski tied a career-high nine strikeouts. March 17 - Matt Crim becomes the third Bulldog to earn SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors following his 6.0-inning performance when he struck out five and did not allow an earned run in The Citadel’s 5-4 win at Elon. March 21 - A wild pitch strikes Matt Simonelli’s left hand, breaking a bone and forcing the sophomore to redshirt the season. Simonelli had started every game in centerfield to that point. March 22 - Wes Wrenn becomes the first Southern Conference pitcher to throw a nine-inning complete game in 2008 in The Citadel’s 10-1 win over Furman. March 29 - Wes Wrenn’s streak of 29.2 innings pitched, which began on Feb. 24 against Delaware, comes to a close in the first inning. March 30 - The Citadel defeats Appalachian State, 9-6, as Bulldogs head coach Fred Jordan records his 800th career victory as a head coach on any level. April 1 - The Citadel hosts No. 6 South Carolina at Riley Park in front of 4,895 fans, the eighth largest crowd to watch the Bulldogs play at home. April 12 - Wes Wrenn throws 6.1 innings of no-hit ball in a 7.0-inning performance against Davidson, allowing only one run and striking out four. That performance earned him SoCon Pitcher of the Week accolades on April 14, becoming the third Bulldog to earn the honor in 2008. April 15 - Freshman Drew Mahaffey enters late in the game at No. 29 UNC Wilmington and strikes out all five batters he faces. That starts a streak of 12 straight batters Mahaffey will retire. April 17 - The Citadel gets a distinguished guest at their practice at College Park as actor Kevin Costner spoke to the team and hit batting practice, driving two balls off the outfield wall. Costner hit both right and left handed. April 30 - Chris Swauger becomes only the second player in school history to record 300 career hits, lacing a double in the first inning at No. 15 Coastal Carolina. May 3 - Matt Arnold, Conrad Kellahan, Timmy Martin and Chris Swauger all join “The Long Gray Line” as they participate in commencement exercises at McAlister Field House. May 7 - Chris Swauger scores four runs in The Citadel’s 14-7 win at Winthrop, becoming the first Bulldog since 2005 to score four runs in a game. May 13 - Chris Swauger and Chris McGuiness are named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team. May 17 - The Citadel closes out the regular season with a series sweep over Presbyterian, guaranteeing the Bulldogs will finish .500 or better for the 13th time in 14 seasons. May 20 - The Citadel falls in the opening round game of the SoCon Tournament to Wofford, 8-4, in a stop-and-go affair that spanned more than five and a half hours due to inclement weather in Charleston. Time of game lasted only 2:45 but two separate lightning delays forced a game that started at 5:44 p.m. to not end until after 11 p.m. May 27 - Trey Thomas is awarded the Coleman Lew Leadership Award, one of 21 Southern Conference student-athletes to be honored. May 27 - Chris Swauger is named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Second Team. June 6 - Chris Swauger is selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 26th round of the Major League Baseball Amateur draft.
