At 0400 on Saturday, Aug. 10, the 2019-2020 cadre were surprised when they discovered that their leadership training that day would be at Parris Island. The training, arranged by Commandant of Cadets Captain Geno Paluso, USN, Ret., ’89, consisted of five events and a shortened version of the 50-plus-hour Marine Crucible. Marines and a contracted team of Special Forces leadership trainers led dozens of cadet teams throughout the day.


During the summer, Lesesne Gate was transported off-site to be refurbished. After several weeks, the freshly painted and restored gate returned to campus and was mounted back in place.


Sophomore cadets took part in a 12-hour leadership reaction course in October at The Citadel Beach Club.



U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave a Greater Issues address on Veterans Day, telling cadets, “Your mission will hinge on your capacity for personal self-discipline.” The full speech is online at today.citadel. edu.


Before leaving for a week-long break, cadets celebrated Thanksgiving with a turkey dinner in Coward Hall followed by cigars and festive hats in the barracks. Photos provided by Cadet Michael Lima, ’20.
