This has been a year of transformational change for our organization In April 2023, we bid farewell to CIS of New Mexico's founding Executive Director, Julia Bergen The CIS of New Mexico Board and staff honor Julia for her outstanding dedication to the organization and her commitment to Communities In Schools' mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. We hope you will join us in wishing Julia all the best in her new endeavors.
CIS of New Mexico has emerged from this year of transformation stronger than ever, with a diverse and active Board of Directors and former Deputy Director Michelle Katz serving as Acting Executive Director. We can confidently say that our organizational health and culture are thriving And, best of all, our students are thriving We are so happy to share that 99% of the students who received support from a CIS NM site coordinator during the 2022-23 school year stayed in school, and 96% of our Capital High seniors graduated!
This coming school year, we will be deepening one-on-one mentorship support for PreK-12 students and developing an Alumni Program to support CIS NM graduates as they forge a path to college and career success. We are truly humbled by the collective kindness and generosity of our community's support of our mission and our work. Together, we are making a positive difference in the lives and futures of Santa Fe children and youth by building a system in which all students can thrive. Thank you for joining us on this journey!

"I met Aliza during the 2021-2022 school year She came into my office looking for support, as she had recently experienced the loss of her beloved father. Aliza was also a new student at Capital High School and was having a difficult time connecting with other peers She was experiencing emotional stress while attempting to process her grief and loss Slowly, Aliza began to feel a part of the school as she participated in many of the CIS support groups. She has become a powerful leader amongst her peers; she has lead by example not only in school but also in her home, as she has assisted in helping her mother and her younger sister understand the importance of processing one's grief Aliza has been a huge support for many of the other students in Nuestra Jornada (our grief support group)." - CIS NM Site Coordinator

“All children deserve an opportunity to dream, to flourish, to succeed. Education is an essential building block to those dreams. However, too often the challenges and inequities of life can interrupt that education. CIS NM’s mission to identify and support at-risk students is crucial to ensuring that they can stay in school and can look forward to a brighter future. That is an outcome that we are proud and excited to support.” -
