La sombra del jueves se extiende hasta tocar la claridad del viernes. Así, siendo Jueves un nombre que te aparece sin cesar, cada titilación, cada palabra es tuya en determinados momentos del día y puntos cardinales de la mina que exploro. De hoy en adelante te llamarás Jueves, y serás la muerte que nunca soy ni alcanzo.

De manteles blancos doblados por tus manos sobre la mesa servida de catástrofes se derrumba el aire en mis alas y todo es un fúnebre escombro tan limpio, un ayuno sin hedores, vaho que germina en las ventanas.

Celda y mundo salón de sueños y peligrosos riscos ¡aquí hay que esperar! ¡aquí hay que cimentar!

Un árbol confrontando al vacío, inalcanzable del mar y las gaviotas, aguarda al rayo y el relámpago galopa por sus ramas (teníamos ya un océano y un par de sillas- mirador) (murciélagos de noche) (teníamos un caimán que paría golondrinas) (algunos pelícanos y vuelos de reconocimiento) Duerme el resto del mundo ahora aún hay lobos y ballenas algún lugar los hará posibles los expulsará de la oscuridad...

Velaré hasta que aparezcas.

Sobre del columpio que abanica el abismo devoraré ángeles sus plumas arroparán tu cuerpo mundo y celda sobreviviente.

Y hay una casa abandonada a los caballos y a las flores de pasto, y fantasmas visibles trituran los cristales y congelan los restos y preservan las viandas.

Doblada la escalera y los espejos escondidas las camas el fuego en una gota de latón.

Cada hoja es la hoja siguiente del eterno nogal y sus frutos imposibles desaparecen al contacto del suelo (y la voz del viento canta arrullando al riego para que mudos vegetales pigmenten insectarios).

Reflejos y sombras tenebrosas polvos de sol que nada centellean -el dibujo posible está prohibido y las palabras condenadas a un ruido.

Subterráneo crece un agujero que da a la calle en forma de humedad, los muros alzan el vuelo a pedazos.

Y un olor a espanto resguarda la cocina (atrincherados utensilios, gas enfermo) Metros y metros cuadrados coloreados de casa.

Cierro el flujo -ni hablar del aguay los árboles que rechazan a la muerte.

Te escribo trepado en un barco.

Te escribo un poema embarcado.

En sentido contrario he llagado al mar.

Mar equivocado mar inequívoco.

Esto sale hoy para allá y llegará hoy mismo siendo mañana aquí.

Aquí todo es enorme: barcos del tamaño de una isla naufragios monumentalmente mortales olas que recubren la mirada.

Si enciendo un cigarro enciendo uno para ti y dibujo en honor a tus líneas de donde extraigo ahora letras y señales.

Se te debe el aire que sostiene mi aviario y el nombre de estrellas negras del agua potable y los granos de mostaza. que figuran la enormidad de mi fe.

Visto con uniforme a diario: zapatos azules

tu suéter gris.

Al acecho de un tigre miro mi propio cuerpo como extraño.

Cabeza a la que se le ha caído el rostro y a sus espaldas ha crecido un fantasma. ¿Quién ha erguido este muro de agua que nos reparte en dos el mundo?

Sin ser de palo no soy de carne: soy de árbol, y descubro la oscuridad que circuncisa mis raíces.

Detenidas por la tierra entre la tierra esqueleto para mis pulmones madrigueras del sol y termiteros del silencio, mi inamovible peso que se derrumba para arriba, permaneciendo incógnita la hoja última que dormita en mi copa.

Saber entonces que la semilla solo es sembrada una vez, y pedir un deseo por cada pájaro que llegue o que se vaya.

Entre las palabras crece una hendidura, cicatriz repasada clínicamente con un bisturí de pedernal.

Erosión, en suma, territorio de vuelo para un buitre.

Un hilván de la tierra que vaporoso emerge y que lava fosilizados rostros y exfolia al elefante.

Entre las palabras, pues acontece el nacimiento del árbol el borboteo del agua el levantamiento de los muros.

Ahora me hundo con mayor rapidez.

Dedico todas las mañanas a la poesía.

A pronunciar la inaugural palabra ronca y seca.

A la mirada sobre la superficie de papel y al percutor cincel pendiente de mi brazo sin fuerza.

A la inundación de mi garganta con café y de todas mis fosas -nasales, oculares, encefálicascon llanto.

Dedico cada rostro que ejecuto, en esos primeros minutos, mientras la luz avanza levantando a mis muertos.

Sin olvidar a la burbuja de jabón, quebrada por un dardo de agua, al vórtice colado de mi mugre y a la espuma que de mi boca expulso como rabia.

Dedico mis trajes de pies a cabeza y viceversa, mi única forma de atarme los zapatos y ese acto de siempre –heroico-fallido– de atravesar la puerta en busca del poema.

Aquel que huye de mí, después de sobrevivir a la intemperie.

Jueves descansa.

Sus brazos, más cortos pero más fuertes que los remos, languidecen luego de una jornada de vaivenes a todo lo largo de la isla.

Depositaria de montañas de tierra, provenientes de los agujeros que yo aparezco, sin saberlo cumple con los efectos de las causas.

Por ello tejo ahora una red, mientras ella pesca un sueño para que ambos comamos.

Cuando Jueves recupere las fuerzas, yo habré de no pensar.

La isla se desgaja por uno de sus flancos.

Así sé que el bote soportará la estridente marea de cada día, y su mudo salitre que seco lo preserva.

En la mudanza empacamos velozmente para no perder nada.

Utensilios, trabajo a medio realizar, fotos del tiempo.

Y aún así, cada día se agranda el inventario de desapariciones.

Ayer encontramos lo extraviado hace meses, y hoy, sin lugar a dudas, miro lo que mañana no estará.

En la mudanza es la tierra la que se mueve.

Es por ello que Jueves volverá.

Encimará la punta de sus pies en los míos, y nuestra huella será más honda y servirá para sembrar.

Viernes crecerá como una planta etc.

Hablamos de la genialidad.

De la genialidad del genio, y de la vida que engendra, genialmente, al genio inacabable, inaudito, impúdico.

Mozart y su astronomía, Bach y su matemática, y la ciencia, alquimia e Ilustración de la muerte puntual, de la muerte adoradora de los genios inéditos.

Hablamos como si estuviésemos en esta isla sin genialidad, mas con el genio de sobrevivir, hedonistamente, a la muerte que no se place de náufragos cuya música son los gritos de auxilio, o de celebración quejumbrosa del acto antropofágico.

(El genio no devora al genio.

El genio provee al genio).

Alumbramiento Jueves está gravemente enferma.

Señor, ahora lo sé: se escribe siempre para que alguien no se muera.

Ah, Jueves, cuántos rostros tienes, tal y como puntos el cielo, como polvo las estrellas: aún así se les puede nombrar, unir con una línea, utilizar para navegar.

Y yo que he perdido la capacidad rapaz de devorar el tiempo, de aparecerme a buena hora en la escena del mundo, de buscarte justo cuando deba de hallarte.

Ah, Jueves, cómo se sincronizan los actos con la soledad, el silencio con las palabras.

Cómo hace uno mismo para tomarse de la mano y abrazarse en la esquina que en cada esquina existe.

Por qué yo he de estar, puntualmente, cada día.

Por qué siempre he de darme en el blanco

Y mi demonio recorre sus dominios mientras ejecuta una maroma que aparece un dibujo en la arena.

Tras él, yo recojo las líneas las organizo en escritos que ejecuto en el nivel indicado de la mina: dinamitar aquí, socavar allá, acordonar tal o cual derrumbe.

Toca una flor y hace una sombra de cenizas, mira una mariposa y crea un antifaz, sonríe y a mí me brotan lágrimas.

Sin embargo, somos como hermanos: provenientes de los mismos altos hornos resonamos en la misma frecuencia y nos hundimos a la par.

(No disgustándonos las salidas de emergencia mas sí las fáciles y sin alarma previa).

En el extremo final de la isla que juntos habitamos levantamos un muelle para los cataclismos.

Y cada cual ha escondido una mitad del mapa para que ninguno de los dos sobreviva.

Su demonio recorre, entonces, sus dominios mientras él desperdicia los días vaticinando.

Así Jueves sólo distingue a uno, desencajado, roto, aspirante a cartógrafo o suicida.

(El no señor de una isla.

El señor de una isla irrepetible).

Me encierro a escribir.

Jueves ha salido a cazar.

Me entierro hasta la nariz para enunciar.

Me proveo de límites y voy y vengo encadenado al cuello.

Mis marcas diagraman las escenas y cada idea es entonces camino bifurcado, guía inútil del todo enumerado.

La escritura y su oficio: cacería de la liebre siendo liebre y jauría.

Jueves y yo levantamos un escenario en el que representamos la cotidianidad: el lunes y no el domingo, el martes y no el miércoles.

La hora de comer requiere de una escenografía mínima, apenas una mesa para dos, la vajilla pertinente, platillos recalentados previamente.

La iluminación como de sol en descendencia, simulando las cinco treinta de la tarde, y música de fondo para la correcta ingestión de las palabras que, por tratarse de una escena entreactos, son de pronta caducidad, sirviendo sólo para no olvidarnos demasiado de los diálogos, de esa capacidad de digerirnos lentamente y sin gases.

Mi memoria es nítida.

Después de treinta años de aislamiento encontré a Jueves aquel día cerca de las tres de la tarde.

La volví a ver algunos días después y pude al fin tocarla, y en algunos más ya tocaba a su puerta pidiendo agua.

Aquella vez reconocí a Jueves por segunda vez y obtuve mi primer vaso relleno con sus lágrimas.

Mi imaginación, en cambio, es turbia y me depreda: Me imagino de plomo encallado en el fondo de un planeta inundado.

Reliquia perdida que Jueves ni siquiera recuerda.

Viernes crece como una planta: al sol

bajo de las nubes

frente al aguacero del ocĂŠano.

Y el polvo como petrificación del espacio...

La casa.

La casa debajo de la casa.

Y la casa de polvo que habita la casa, réplica de las cosas, fantasma detenido, frustrado en el recorrido de la casa.

Abrimos la puerta y permanece, hasta que la feroz andanza de nuestra vacación, poco a poco le alza, le desprende dibujándole marcas con relevancia de tatuaje.

Y si alguno lo carda con la escoba, o lo sacude tras catastrófico soplido, recorre lo mismo que el fantasma de la casa de polvo, y huella de cuerpos el espacio de la casa primera, que respira profundo, antes de confinarse indefinidamente por el derrumbe en curso.

Esto es inútil.

Como es inútil cantar o salvar a un pájaro del gato blasfemar.

Cuando Jueves desaparece de mi vista, cuando comparte el pan y el agua, cuando se lo regalan, escribir es una vejiga de veneno caliente que mi organismo transpira, irritando mi piel y mis papeles.

La inutilidad de la relectura

o

inutiliza el movimiento de la mano: dibujar es inútil, sembrar, construir es inútil.

Los animales, inútilmente -mas siendo maravillosamente útilesejecutan el canto, la salvación y la blasfemia a través de los días.

Consiguen así mirar a Jueves donde esté, una miga de pan o sorbo de agua, y la ingestión del veneno del prójimo sin ninguna lamentación.

Ah, Jueves.

No me lamento de tu ausencia.

No me lamento de tu presencia.

Existe un lamento de lamentos, un lamento gravísimo y ensordecedor, como aquel del barco en su crujir irremediable o como el del bautizo y su eco de grado vitalicio.

Lamento parecido al del polvo –de la casa-, al del pájaro incapaz de volar, despeñado en el margen de la isla.

Lamento para ángeles, el lamento del rezo: lamento del descontacto.

(1) Mirarte y no mirarte. Decir tu nombre que no sirve de imagen. Imaginarte sin certeza, o que habrás de estar en el punto cardinal indicado para mí, que te dibujo de memoria, desmemoriado.

(2) El toque de la piel en mi mano a tus lunares indesprendibles, mi exhalación después de haber reconocido tu sudor. Cómo todo es un resto que seguimos observando expectantes (cómo todo se pierde, al fin y al cabo –¿es esto ya un pleonasmo?), y preferentemente, a la hora en que compartimos pliegues y vórtices y causantes y efectos.

(3) El adiós prolongado hasta el próximo adiós. El adiós parabólico, catapultado hasta el siguiente hallazgo del uno frente al otro y al revés. El adiós del eructo de la última cena en nuestra casa. El adiós que no recuerdan ni el huérfano ni el padre.

El adiós que siempre mide, pesa y se hunde como adiós.

Ah, Jueves.

Es una impertinencia para los imanes, para los tensos resortes que recorren y organizan la mina, para la presión polar que infla el globo terrestre, que ambos andemos separados de cuerpo y esperanza (posible definición verbal para desolación).

(4) Un caracol se pierde en la inmensidad del día. Los he visto guardarse, desolados, dentro de su coraza. La luz sólo mide lo que no está. La oscuridad lo que no existe.

5) Y las aves se acurrucan, ensimismadas, plumífero capullo de una ovípara flor. La luz intensifica el frío de la intemperie. La oscuridad desaparece hasta los árboles.

Ah, Jueves.

En dónde estás a la hora del día que no se acaba y de la noche acabada por el día.

Rezo sobre la arena: Señor, calca en mí el destino de Jueves.

Mas cómo defender mi plegaria del mar y de mis propios pasos de búsqueda y espanto.

El último vuelo fue ejecutado el 7 de marzo en la casa de la playa.

Soy un ogro. Todo se ha consumado ayer.

10 de marzo de 2005. Mi parte femenina, la que me quedaba, se ha ido. Nada me sostiene ahora más que mi columna.

Nada me estorba más que la orfandad de la vida: arte, poesía, mortandad. *

Ensayo el discurso de expulsión para cuando me encuentre con la vulgaridad en el zoológico.

Escribo a la sombra generada por una malla de hojas de palmera crujiente.

El viento barre la costa por su justa orilla y hace de cada ola un caracol sonante.

Describo el día de un martes mientras Jueves recostada dormita bajo el sol y piensa en mi hijo.

Nada detiene al mar ni al viento Nada detiene al viento ni al mar.

Y uno es esa larva detenida siempre a punto de formarse de eclosionar y resurgir triunfante pese al viento y al mar necesitando a otro para las palabras y a otro para el amor y el hartazgo.

Aquí todos los días hay mar y todos los días hay viento y es imposible no verlos y es imposible decepcionarse de ellos.

Estoy claro en que mientras escribía estas palabras he dejado de escribir otras a las que he dejado en el silencio del mar y del viento igual a mí permaneciendo debajo de la sombra y no dentro del sol constantemente.

Edificar un aviario erizar la tierra provocar la multiplicación de las sombras descanso de las aves.

Red en círculo cardumen en aro parvada en rotación: cilíndrica estación que atraviesa a un tiempo mis palabras sin vértigo sin culpa con brevedad.

He llegado al mar otra vez y otra vez el mar y cada vez el mar como horizonte como túnel que cae como alfombra reptante.

Jueves lee en una silla las palabras otra vez y otra vez las palabras y cada vez las palabras como estación como ave en picada como concavidad recipiente.

Del mar a las palabras y de las palabra al mar.

La certeza única de la playa y las preguntas que vuelan en bandada.

Comer aquí es amoroso porque proviene del agua y la vegetación, mordemos el universo circundante en cada platillo y bebida, y hacemos el amor en los restos de un barco intemperistas a ras del horizonte y otra vez y cada vez la luz de este día irrepetible.

Mi razón por los pelícanos es a razón de su empatía su armónica relación con el oleaje.

Personajes ambos dialogan simultáneamente.

Sin sobreposiciones sin que al uno se le vaya el aire sin que al otro se le acabe la espuma.

El vuelo y el estallido permanecen no obstante el enfermizo amor que los mantiene cohabitando.

Testigo de ello sin más que estas palabras: Verdad: después de haber descontado la mentira, se conserva.

Mentira: Algo que se escucha de más de una persona.

(Esforzarse entonces en que las mentiras sean más bellas y transformarlas en certezas).

Viernes 4 de Marzo 2005 Caminamos sobre la arena paralelismo del agua y nosotros y la tierra la laguna.

Cómo entendemos aquí y ahora nuestra forma nuestra altura nuestra correspondencia.

Como el mar y la tierra acariciamos nuestra cicatriz vez tras vez destellando al sol diseminándonos en espuma a los pies del otro.

Te miro dormir segmentada en luz y sombra de palmera fósil evitando el cobijo que debo procurarte porque te pienso como un cangrejo que de ermitaño sólo pugna por el caparazón.

Aún no se comienza a formar la ola que nos tumbe y vamos dejando en cambio nuestras huellas.

A golpes contra el รกrbol emergiรณ una embarcaciรณn.

Y contra el muro una ampolla de sangre fisura de la mano en sus nudillos.

Nunca construido, nunca destruido: castillo de arena.

Y así, el presentimiento del naufragio (el anuncio) aún dentro del juego: el sol incendió la mirada de Robinsón quien estalló en llanto mientras su niñez terminaba.

El castillo que cupo dentro del par de manos entonces y la fortaleza que ahora necesariamentese desborda lo cubre, lo enaltece.

Del naufragio no queda sino Robinsón la única semilla resistente del mar plaga de la isla que ya no espera ni la muerte.

Robinsón es seguramente el animal más encorvado de la isla.

Corazón con demasiado aire, convexo rumbo a la coronaria, que impide grandes cambios de ánimo y exige largas pausas frente al mar; corazón de cuerno de carnero, pesado como el tronco que lo mantuvo a flote.

Robinsón cadete, Robinsón zootecnista, Robinsón agrónomo.

Y Jueves la generala, Jueves la bestia, Jueves la tierra.

La escritura es su estado de sitio, lugar indefendible.

Se encorva para sus adentros.

Mira la infinitud de su coraza.

Su yacimiento con un agujero de luz.

A la intemperie, Jueves, ocurre que estamos sin más que nosotros, y el mar y la laguna, y los pájaros y el mar, y nada deja de cubrirnos de transparencia y de brevedad, y todo ello nos lame la piel salitrosa y se lleva nuestra edad como par -porque aquí todo es dialéctico y simbióticopara formar más playa, más isla. ¿Con qué correspondemos, Jueves, con el sol que calcina nuestro cuerpo y su sombra, con aquella nube que permanece anclada justo delante de nosotros, hasta allá, donde se pierden el mar y el cielo en una sola cosa? ¿Es que para ser un solo cuerpo se requiere de infinita distancia? ¿Es que la capacidad de diferenciar las cosas, necesariamente, proviene de estar tan a la mano? (¿Cuál es el contrafuerte del hábitat, qué espécimen, qué palabra?)

El díafago

Es el día el que devora al día, a la intemperie, -y en el encierro- que sirven de estación momentánea para la digestión.

Cada día, durante siempre, el día ha acabado con el día hasta sus restos, hasta ya no poder, y esperanzado que haya sido la última, despierta cada día.

Y el día, no obstante, se reproduce y vuelve a aparecer para ser descubierto, acorralado y consumido, y sólo vemos sombras y el crujir de los árboles e insectos muertos.

Cultivar mostaza hasta aparecer un granito de fe.

Si las gaviotas recorren el abismo y nunca enseñan su desplome.

Cuya belleza excedió a la esperanza y la similitud alcanzó, siquiera, para un espejo de ojos empapados.

La duna fue modelada una vez.

Todas las otras veces son remodelaciones.

Comer carne sobre una tabla.

Náufrago que no sonríe, frase que precede al lamento: “¿es esto un ensayo de la muerte?”

La isla es una ballena respirando.

Un erizo del que Robinsón sorteará las espinas.

Comer vegetales aderezados con mostaza, como descalzarse después de la jornada, aligera los órganos nos acerca a una clase de vuelo aún más oloroso.

O no comer hasta dormirnos de no comer para obtener un insomnio en ayunas y mirar –submarinamentela profundidad de la tormenta por venir o los cardúmenes fantasma de la infancia.

Como si mi padre fuera el gran tiburón blanco flotando sobre nuestras cabezas, y yo dirigiera la cacería, siendo adulto.

En tales estratos, los pelícanos juegan a ser solo pelícanos y no hay observatorio que les alcance a ver y no hay distinción con su antepasado pterodáctilo.

El plumaje cae a mis pies como árbol otoñal.

Mientras recreo su crujir con su esqueleto y toco las escamas.

Necesito una mano ahora, una boca nomás, ¿quién quiere regresar a las entrañas de una mina de carne? quien no ha estado nunca quien nunca ha sido una.

Hay que buscar aquí, con la certeza de la nada.

Posible cíclope que parpadea sin olfato.

Amor, ya no hay papel.

Papel, ya no hay amor.

Una bolita hice de ambos y entre mis manos apareció la sangre de no sé cuál de ambos, que ha muerto de cansancio: si la página blanca, repleta en personajes

O si acaso mi cuerpo que no sirve ni pa´l gusto.

No te fĂ­es del trabajo.

Ni de mis sucias letras.

Que acaso caigas en mi red que laboro doce horas continuas.

De pronto sĂłlo escribo un libro. Pienso mientras escribo que pienso, y escribo que la primera frase de cualquier libro es carnada pura, y entonces intento, desesperadamente, escribir la primera frase del libro que estoy escribiendo. AsĂ­ nunca he empezado a escribir.

Porque en el arca algo quedĂł dormido.

Dispar, como una nube como miles de nubes, que en estampida, aunque a solas, huye.

Permanece, exhala su propia aliento y va de la infinitud a lo infrahumano.

Y vamos a los del día y esto es: horadar con relámpagos nubes de mineral, celestiales escombros.

Así el día transcurre en la penumbra y la noche, que no provoca sueños, no confunde al amor con el espanto, es sólo las entrañas de una mina de espacio expuestas a los ojos de una luna de hiena.

Viernes se mueve sobre las escaleras.

Robinsón, que no está, que no ha llegado, arroja por la borda una botella vacía y encorchada.

Viernes la halla, y sin saber leer, las nubes se reflejan sobre el cristal en el momento exacto de un relámpago.

El barco se parte irremediablemente: Robinsón sube y baja sobre un hueso del casco.

El mismo sueño, de un cansancio distinto, los presenta.

Les enseña la certidumbre del contacto.

Viernes es el que aguarda a Robinsón.

Lo ve en las nubes.

Lo pierde entre las estrellas.

Viernes cree saber que aquel es el día de la aparición de Robinsón porque el cielo amaneció cargado de nimbos inmóviles, como enormes espumas de una mar invertida.

Mientras Robinsón, despidiéndose, cree que llegará a puerto a la seis de la tarde del sábado siguiente, entre un día lluvioso, quebrando el cielo de los charcos.

Viernes construye un cubo con las caras giratorias, tan grande como para que ĂŠl quepa de pie.

Obsesionado con el aire y el paisaje, hace de cada muro una ventana que delimita la espacialidad de la figura: cada que Viernes desea cambiar de vista, empuja, abre y cierra, reacomodando la vivienda y el intemperismo.

Posiblemente el horizonte sea la inevitable acción divisoria que salvaguarda nuestra dimensión, pues no sólo determina el arriba y abajo, sino el principio y el fin: cuerda de equilibrio sobre la cual acontece el tiempo que se manifiesta en degradaciones o saturaciones de luz. Aquel que observa, que reparte a la tierra y al mar, no es sino una de las tantas clases de equilibristas carentes de algún circo, tan pequeño como para abarcarlo de una sola mirada. Somos, en suma, público siempre de la nada.

En el principio fue el vuelo.

El vuelo es la contradicciรณn de volar.

Toda mina puede emerger.

Hay un punto del espacio que me es inaccesible.

Poeta come carne.

Poeta bebe café.

Poeta apuntálate.

Poeta mírame.

Poeta pierde el pulgar.

Poeta quédate ciego.

Cago mientras escribo: pleonasmo.

Escribo mientras cago: onomatopeya.

Las palabras de antes de las palabras.

Y debajo del cielo está el mar: descansen ambos.

Y el no-contorno de las nubes.

No hay orillas.

Pelícanos que repasan una línea.

Las palabras-trueque. (y el trueque de las palabras).

For Thursday

Thursday’s shadow expands until it touches Friday’s clarity. So, since Thursday is a name that makes you appear incessantly, every titillation, every word is yours during certain moments of the day, and in certain cardinal points of the mine I am exploring.

From now on, your name shall be Thursday, and you shall be the death I never am nor ever reach.

White linen tablecloths folded by your hands, on the table, laden with catastrophe air crumbles on my wings and everything is such funereal rubble so clean, odorless fasting, condensation sprouting on windows.

Cell and world a hall of dreams and dangerous cliffs here we must wait! here we must cement!

A tree confronting the void, unreachable by sea and gulls awaits the lightning and thunder gallops through its branches (we had an ocean and a couple of lookout-chairs) (night bats) (we had an alligator that gave birth to swallows) (some pelicans and reconnaissance flights) The rest of the world sleeps now but there are still wolves and whales some place will make them possible will exhale them from darkness…

I shall watch until you appear.

On the swing that fans the abyss I shall devour angelst heir feathers shall wrap your body surviving world and cell.

There is a house abandoned to horses and grass flowers, and visible ghosts shatter the windows and freeze the scraps and preserve the food.

Folded staircase and mirrors hidden beds fire in a brass drop.

Every leaf is the next leaf of the eternal walnut tree and its impossible fruit disappear upon touching the ground (and the wind’s voice sings, lulling the irrigation so that mute vegetables may pigment insectariums).

Reflections and tenebrous shadows sun dusts that sparkle nothing— the possible drawing is forbidden and words are doomed to noise.

Underground, a hole grows and it leads out into the street, shaped like moisture, walls take flight in pieces.

And a smell of horror guards the kitchen (entrenched utensils, sick gas).

Colored square feet plus square feet of house.

I close the flow —let alone the water— and the trees that reject death.

I write to you on a ship.

I write an embarked poem to you.

I have reached the sea by going in an opposite direction.

Wrong sea unequivocal sea.

This will be on its way over there and will arrive today tomorrow here.

Here, everything is enormous: ships the size of an island monumentally mortal shipwrecks waves that cover the gaze.

If I light a cigarette I light one for you and I draw honoring your lines from where I extract letters and signs.

I owe you the air that holds my aviary and the name of black stars of drinking water and mustard seeds that figure the enormity of my faith.

I wear a uniform daily: blue shoes your grey sweater.

Prowling for a tiger I regard my own body as strange.

A head whose face has fallen off and a ghost has grown on its back.

Who has erected this water wall that breaks our world in two?

I am not made of stone but not made of flesh: I am tree, and I discover the darkness that circumcises my roots.

Stopped by earth among the earth a skeleton for my lungs burrows of the sun termite-mounds of silence, my unmovable weight which crumbles upwards, the least leaf that sleeps in my treetop remains unknown.

Then, it is known that the seed is only planted once, and a wish should be made for every bird that arrives or leaves.

A cleft grows between the words, a scar clinically reworked by a flint scalpel.

Erosion, overall, flight territory for vultures.

A thread of earth that airily emerges and washes fossilized faces and exfoliates elephants.

Between the words, then, happens the birth of the tree the bubbling of the water the rising of the walls.

And now, I sink much faster.

I dedicate every morning to poetry.

To the pronunciation of the inaugural word, hoarse and dry.

To the glance over the paper surface and the striker chisel hanging from my limp arm.

To the flooding of my throat with coffee and all my cavities —nasal, ocular, encephalic— with crying.

I dedicate every face I play during those first minutes while the light advances, waking my dead up.

One cannot forget the soap bubble broken by a watery dart, the strained vortex of my dirt and the rabid foam that froths at my mouth.

I dedicate my suits from head to toe and the other way around, the only way I know how to tie my shoes and that customary act —heroic and failed— of walking through the door in search of the poem.

That one that runs away from me, after surviving inclemency so well.

Thursday rests.

Her arms, shorter but stronger than oars, languish after a day of swinging throughout the island.

A repository of landmasses which come from the holes in which I appear. She complies with the effects of the causes without knowing it.

Because of that I now weave a net, while she fishes for a dream so we both eat.

When Thursday regains her strength, I shall not think.

One of the sides of the island is being torn away.

So I know the boat will endure the strident tide of everyday, and the mute saltpeter that keeps it dry.

In the move we pack speedily so as not to lose anything.

Utensils, h alf-done work, pictures of time.

And still, every day the list of disappearances grows.

Yesterday we find what has been missing for months, and today, no doubt about it, I gaze at what will not be here tomorrow.

In the move, earth is what moves.

That is why Thursday shall come back.

She shall place her tiptoes on mine, and our print shall be deeper and shall be good for sowing.

Friday shall grow like a plant and so forth.

We talk about genius.

Of the genius of a genius, and about life, which gives (genially) birth to an endless, shameless, unprecedented genius.

Mozart and his astronomy, Bach and his mathematics, and the science, alchemy and Enlightenment of timely death, of death the adorer of unprecedented geniuses.

We talk as if we had no genius in this island, but there is the genius of hedonistically surviving death, death that is not pleased by castaways whose music are the cries for help, or the plaintive celebration of anthropophagy.

(Genius does not devour genius.

Genius provides for genius.)

Birth Thursday is gravely ill.

Oh Lord, now I know it: Writing is an act to prevent someone from dying.

Oh Thursday, you have so many faces, faces as dots in the sky, as dust in the stars; still, they can be named, joined by lines, used for sailing.

And I, who have lost the predatory ability of devouring time, the ability of appearing at the right time on the world’s stage, of looking for you just when I am supposed to find you.

Oh, Thursday, actions synchronize with loneliness, silence with words.

How can one take oneself’s hand and hug oneself at the corner that exists in every corner.

Because I shall be, on time, every day.

Because I shall always hit my bull’s eye.

And my demon traverses his dominions while doing a pirouette that makes a drawing appearon the sand.

Behind him, I pick up the lines and organize them in writings which I execute in the mine’s indicated levels: dynamite here undermine there, cordon off this or that landslide.

It touches a flower and creates a shadow of ash, it looks at a butterfly and creates a mask, it smiles and tears come out my eyes.

However, we are like brothers: we both come from the same blast furnaces we resonate in the same frequency and we sink together.

(It is not that we do not like emergency exits, but we do dislike easy ones without an alarm.)

At the end on the island we both inhabit we erected a dock for cataclysms.

Each of us has hidden half the map to prevent the other one from surviving.

His demon, then, traverses his dominions while he wastes his days away, envisaging.

So Thursday can only see one, broken, distorted, a candidate either for cartography or suicide.

(The no-lord of an island.

The lord of an unrepeatable island).

I lock myself up to write.

Thursday has gone hunting.

I bury myself up to the nose to enunciate.

I provide myself my limits and I come and go, my neck chained.

My marks diagram the scenes and every idea is then a crossroads, a useless guide of the listed everything.

Writing and its work: hunting for the hare being both the hare and the pack.

Thursday and I put up a stage in which we represent everyday life: Monday and not Sunday, Tuesday and not Wednesday.

Mealtime requires minimum staging: a table for two, pertinent tableware, previously reheated dishes.

Lighting is that of a setting sun, simulating five-thirty in the afternoon, and there is background music to encourage the correct ingestion of the words which, because this is a scene between the acts, expire quickly. They only work so we do not forget the dialogues too soon, so we do not forget that capability of digesting ourselves slowly, no gas.

My memories are crystal clear.

After thirty years of solitude I found Thursday that day around three o’clock in the afternoon.

I saw her again some days later and I could finally touch her; some days later I was knocking at her door asking for water.

That time I recognized Thursday for the second time and I had my first glass filled with her tears.

On the other hand, my imagination is murky and predatory: I imagine myself leaden, stranded in the depths of a flooded planet.

A lost relic Thursday does not even remember.

Friday grows like a plant: exposed to the sun

under the clouds

facing the rainfall of the ocean.

Dust as petrification of space…

The house.

The house under the house.

And the house of dust that inhabits the house, replica of things, a stopped ghost, frustrated while traversing the house.

We open the door and it remains, until the ferocious wanderings of our holiday raises it slowly, releases it drawing marks as relevant as a tattoo.

And if someone teases it with the broom, or shakes it after a catastrophic blow, it traverses the same distance as the ghost of the dust house, and hollows with bodies the space

of the first house, that inhales deeply, before it is indefinitely confined because of the current landslide.

This is useless.

As it is useless to sing or save a bird from a cat or blaspheming.

When Thursday is out of my sight, when she shares the bread and water, when they are gifted to her, writing is a bladder of hot poison transpired by my organism; it irritates my skin and my papers.

The futility of rereading cripples the hand’s movements: drawing is useless, sowing, building is useless.

Animals, futilely —though wonderfully useful— execute song, salvation and blasphemy

through the days.

They get to gaze at Thursday wherever she is, a crumb of bread, a sip of water, and the ingestion of their fellow’s poison without a lament.

Oh, Thursday.

I do not lament your absence.

I do not lament your presence.

For there is a lament of laments, a deep, deafening lament like that of a ship and its irredeemable cracking or that of baptism and its lifelong echo.

A lament like that of—house—dust, like the one of the bird that is incapable of flying, that tumbled onto the island’s margins.

A lament for angels, the lament of prayer: the lament of the un-contact.

(1) Looking at you and not looking at you. Speaking your name, that is no good for an image. Imagining you without any certainty, or imaging you will be in the cardinal point that is meant for me, I trace you by heart but un-remembering.

(2) The touch of my hand’s skin towards your unremovable moles, my exhaling after having recognized your sweat. Everything is a rest we keep watching, expectant (how everything is lost, anyways —is this a pleonasm?), preferably, during that hour when we share creases and vortexes and causes and effects.

(3) A goodbye made long until the following goodbye.

A parabolic goodbye, catapulted until the next disco-

-very of one before the other and then the other way around. The goodbye from the burp of the last dinner in our house. The goodbye that neither the orphan nor the father remember. The goodbye that shall forever measure, weigh and sink like a goodbye.

Oh, Thursday.

It is an impertinence for magnets, for the tense springs that travel and organize the mine, for the polar pressure that inflates the globe, that we both shall wander, separate in body and hope (possible desolation definition)

(4) A snail gets lost in the immensity of the day. I have seen them take shelter, desolate, inside their shell. Light can only measure what is gone. Darkness, what does not exist.

(5) And the birds cuddle, dreamy, the feathered cocoon of an oviparous flower. Light intensifies the outdoor cold. Darkness disappears all the way into the trees.

Oh, Thursday.

Where are you at this time of day that never ends and of night finished by the day.

I pray on the sand: Oh Lord, trace Thursday’s fate on me.

But how can I defend my prayer from the sea and my own searching, scared steps.

The last flight took place on March 7, at the beach house.

I am an ogre. Everything was consummated yesterday.

March 10, 2005. My feminine counterpart, the one I had left, has gone. Nothing holds me now except my spine.

Nothing is in my way except life’s orphanage: art, poetry, mortality. * I rehearse the expulsion speech for when I face vulgarity at the zoo.

I write at the shade generated by a barrier of crunchy palm leaves.

The wind sweeps the coast along its just shore and turns every wave into a resounding shell.

I describe a Tuesday while Thursday lies dozing under the sun thinking about my son.

Nothing stops the sea nor the wind nothing stops the wind nor the sea.

And one is that interrupted larva always on the verge of being formed on the verge of hatching and rising triumphantly in spite of the wind and the sea in need of someone else for the words and someone else for love and boredom.

Here everyday there is sea and everyday there is a wind and it is impossible not to see them and it is impossible to be disappointed in them.

I know for sure that as I write these words I have not written others which I have abandoned in the silence of the sea and the wind jus like me the remain under the shadow and not constantly inside the sun

Building an aviary ruffling the earth causing the multiplication of shadows the resting of birds. A circle net a ring shoal a rotating flock: a cylindric station that traverses, at the same time, my words without vertigo without guilt with brevity.

I have arrived at the sea again and again the sea and every time the sea as a horizon as a falling tunnel as a crawling carpet.

Thursday, reads, on a chair again and again the words and every time the words as a swooping bird as a receptacle concavity.

From the sea to the words and from the words to the sea.

The only certainty of the beach and the questions that fly in a flock.

Eating here is amorous because it originates from water and vegetation, we bite the surrounding universe in each course and drink, and we make love in the remains of a ship

weatherists right below the horizon and again and every time the light of this unrepeatable day.

My reason for pelicans is because of their empathy and their harmonic relationship with waves.

Characters them both they dialogue simultaneously.

No superimpositions without having one out of breath without having the other run out of foam.

Flight and crash remain no matter the sick love that keeps them in cohabitation.

Witnessing that without more words than these: Truth: after having withdrawn the lie, it is what remains.

Lie: something you hear from more than one person.

(Make an effort, then, so lies can be more beautiful and crafted into certainties.)

Friday, March 4, 2005 We walk on the sand a parallelism of water and us and the earth the lagoon.

How do we understand, here and now, our form our height our correspondence.

As the sea and the earth we caress our scar again and again shining under the sun dissipating in foam at one another’s feet.

I watch you sleep broken down in the light and shadow of a fossil palm avoiding the cover I should provide you because I think you a crab that is only a hermit because it fights for a shell.

There is still no wave that shall take us down and instead we leave our tracks behind.

Violently knocking against the tree a ship emerged.

And against the wall a bloody blister a hand fissure on his knuckles..

Never built, never destroyed: a sandcastle.

So, the foreshadowing of the shipwreck (the announcement) still inside the game: the sun burned Robinson’s gaze and he broke down and cried while his childhood was over.

The castle fit inside the pair of hands then and the fortress which now necessarily overgrows him also covers and ennobles him.

Of the shipwreck there is nothing left but Robinson the only resistant sea seed the island’s plague who does not await anything, not even death.

Robinson is, without a doubt, the most slouched animal in the island.

A heart with too much air, coronary convex, which forbids violent mood swings and demands long pauses facing the sea; ram horn heart, heavy as the trunk that kept it afloat.

Cadet Robinson, zoo engineer Robinson, agriculturalist Robinson.

And General Thursday, beast Thursday, earth Thursday.

Writing is their siege, an indefensible place.

It curves towards its insides.

It gazes at the infiniteness of its shell.

Its deposit with a hole of light.

Outdoors, Thursday, we are without anything but ourselves, and the sea and the lagoon, and the birds and the sea, and nothing stops covering us with transparency and brevity, and everything licks our salty skin and takes our age as a pair —here, everything is dialectical and symbiotic— to create more beach, more island.

What are our correspondences, Thursday?

With the sun that burns our body and its shade,with that cloud that remains anchored just before us, all the way over there, where sea and sky blend in a single thing?

Do we need infinite distance to be an only body?

Does the capability to distinguish things necessarily stems from being so available?

(What is the counter of habitat, what specimen, what word?)

The day-eater It is the day who devours the day, outdoors —and in lockdown— which are nothing but a momentary station for digestion.

Every day, since forever, the day has finished with the day until the remains are left, until it cannot continue any more, and hopeful that this time was the last time, he wakes up each day.

However, the day reproduces and appears again to be discovered, cornered and consumed, and we only see shadows and the creaking of trees and dead insects.

Growing mustard until a grain of faith appears.

If seagulls traverse de abyss and never show their collapse.

Whose beauty exceeded hope and the similitude was enough, at least, for a mirror of drenched eyes.

The dune was modeled once.

Every other time is remodeling.

Eating meat on a board.

Castaway that does not smile, a phrase that precedes the lament: Is this a rehearsal of death?

The island is a whale breathing.

A sea urchin from which Robinson shall avoid the thorns.

Eating vegetables seasoned with mustard, like removing one’s shoes after the day, makes organs lighter and gets us closer to a type of flight far more odorous.

Or not eating, until we fall asleep because of not eating so we can get a fasting insomnia and we look —submarine— at the depths of the coming storm or at infancy’s ghost shoals.

As if my father was the great white shark floating above our heads and I led the hunt, as an adult. In such strata, pelicans only play the part of pelicans and there is no observatory that can watch them and there is no distinction from their pterodactyl past. The feathers fall at my feet like a tree in autumn.

Meanwhile, I recreate their crunching with their skeletons and I touch their scales.

I need a hand right now, or just a mouth, who wants to go back to the entrails of a mine of flesh?

Whoever has never been, whoever has never been one.

We have to look here, with the certainty of nothing.

Possible cyclops that blinks without a sense of smell.

Love, there is no more paper.

Paper, there is no more love.

I rolled them both into a ball and between my hands blood appeared.

I do not know whose blood it was from any of them, that died from fatigue:

from the white page, filled with characters or from my body that is not even good for pleasure.

Do not trust my job.

Do not trust my dirty writings either.

You might fall into my net And I work twelve hours a day.

All of a sudden, I am only writing a book. I think while I write that I am thinking, and I write that the first sentence of every book is pure bait, and then I desperately try to write the first sentence of the book I am writing. So I have never started to write.

Because, in the ark, something remained dormant.

Uneven, like a cloud, like a thousand clouds, and in a stampede though alone it runs away.

It remains, exhales its own breath and goes from infinitude to subhuman.

And so we go to the day which is: piercing mineral clouds with lightning, celestial debris.

So the day elapses in twilight and night, which does not allow dreaming, does not mistake love with horror, but it is just the entrails of a space mine exposed to the eyes of a hyena moon.

Friday moves upon the stairs.

Robinson, who is not there, who has not arrived yet, throws an empty, corked bottle overboard.

Friday finds it, but cannot read; clouds reflect upon the glass at the exact moment of lightning.

The ship irredeemably breaks in two: Robinson goes up and down on the remains of the hull.  The same dream, though different tiredness, introduces them to one another.

It teaches them the certainty of contact.

Friday is the one that awaits Robinson.

He sees him in the clouds, he loses him among the stars.

Friday thinks he knows that that was the day of Robinson’s apparition because the sky dawned loaded with immobile nimbus, as enormous foam in an inverted sea.

Meanwhile, Robinson, waving goodbye, thinks he shall reach the port at six o’clock in the afternoon next Saturday, in a rainy day, breaking the sky from the puddles.

Friday builds a cube with the spinning sides, big enough for him to fit standing up.

Obsessed with air and the landscape, he makes every wall a window that limits the space of the shape: he pushes, he opens and closes, rearranging dwelling and weathering.

Possible, the horizon might be the inevitable divisive action that safeguards our dimension, because it does not only determine up and down, but the beginning and the end: a tightrope in which time happens, manifested in degradations and saturations of light.

He who watches, he who gives away to the earth and sea, is nothing but an equilibrist that is lacking a circus, so small that it can be captured in just one look.

We are, all in all, the audience of nothing.

In the beginning, there was flight.

Flight is the contradiction of flying.

All mines can emerge.

There is a spot in space that is inaccessible to me.

Poet eats meat.

Poet drinks coffee.Poet brace yourself.

Poet look at me.Poet lose your thumb.

Poet become blind.

I shit while I write: pleonasm.

I write while I shit: onomatopoeia.

Words before words.

And under the sky there is the sea: rest, both.

And the non-silhouettes of clouds.

There are no edges.

Pelicans that rework a line.

The words-trade.

(And the trade of words).

THURSDAY was written during one year of selfimposed exile in Mexico City and at the Big Coast of Guerrero, between 2005 and 2006.
