KEYNOTE SPEAKER Kris Paronto offers a firsthand account of what really happened on the ground during the 2012 Benghazi attack, coupled with insights on what America and the world can learn from that day.

Kris, or “Tanto,” as he is known in security contracting circles, is a former Army Ranger from the 2nd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment and private security contractor. He also worked with the U.S. government’s Global Response Staff, conducting low profile security in high threat environments throughout the world.

Kris was part of the CIA annex security team that responded to the terrorist attack on the U.S. Special Mission in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012, helping to save over 20 lives while fighting off terrorists for over 13 hours. His story is told in the book 13 Hours, and in the major motion picture of the same name. Today, he is a security and military consultant and founder of the 14th Hour Foundation, a nonprofit created to help military veterans, first responders, government security contractors, their families and other foundations with grants to assist in everything from mortgage payments, everyday bills and tuition.

Bringing valor, compassion, and authenticity to the stage, Kris shares the unforgettable story of the brave individuals who fought back during the Battle of Benghazi and risked their lives for the greater good of the world, along with key takeaways on leadership and teamwork that can be applied in any environment.

In his latest book, The Patriot's Creed: Inspiration and Advice for Living a Heroic Life (October 2019), Kris reveals the values and creed shared by special forces for self-improvement and living a purposeful life.

BRENDON CULL Brendon Cull is the President and CEO of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. And formerly held the positions of President, COO, EVP and Chief Strategy Officer. Cull leads teams that have overhauled public policy, government relations, talent, and marketing efforts. Cull developed the Chamber’s transportation initiatives strategy, resulting in a successful $2 million ballot initiative and coalition supporting increased transportation funding. Cull managed the fundraising and Chamber production team for BLINK, a $5 million art and light event that was the largest public event in Cincinnati’s history. He is an accomplished and sought-after speaker, strategist, and ambassador for the organization and the region.

For 10 years, Cull led Government Affairs for The Kroger Co., where he advised executives and the company’s board on vital policy and political issues. He launched an effort to legalize wine in grocery stores, resulting in millions of new sales in several states. Cull’s influence and leadership was evident in Kroger’s successful policy efforts: pension reform, food safety, and corporate social responsibility. From 2000-2005, Cull was the Legislative Director and Press Secretary for Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken.

Cull currently serves on the boards of CincyTech, ArtsWave, Visit Cincy, Cincinnati Compass, Workforce Innovation Center, 3CDC, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland Business Advisory Board, United Way Greater Cincinnati, XU’s Williams College of Business, and is an elected member of Clifton Town Meeting. Cull formerly served as a board member of the Southwest OH Regional Transit Authority and was President of the Board of the Mercantile Library.

He has worked with dozens of organizations in advisory and volunteer roles, including the United Way, Cincinnati Regional Business Committee, Crown Cincinnati, and Tender Mercies. He graduated from Xavier University, with a degree in Organizational Communication, and is a graduate of Leadership Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Chamber’s Building Cultural Competency program. He is an avid reader, runner, cyclist, and live-music aficionado. He is married and has two daughters,

DR. ERICA BIRKLEY Dr. Erica Birkley is a first responder psychologist and owner of Birkley Consulting. Dr. Birkley has a private practice in Hyde Park and specializes in treating first responders and their partners with expertise in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, sleep problems, anger difficulties, and relationship issues. Dr. Birkley conducts evidence-based individual and couple psychotherapy and psychological assessment. For PTSD, she has the appropriate certifications and postdoctoral training to provide Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART; eyemovement treatment), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Cognitive-Behavioral Conjoint Therapy (i.e., Couple Therapy) for PTSD. Dr. Birkley is a member of several local first responder peer support teams in which she provides clinical oversight, potential traumatic event (PTE) response, and support for peer team members. Dr. Birkley’s mission is to serve, nurture, and heal first responders with trustworthy expert care. She provides Christian-based counseling upon request as part of an evidence-based course of psychotherapy.

Her vision is to contribute to individual, couple, and agency vitality, bolster peer support and mental health initiatives in our region, and bring hope to first responders and their families. Dr. Birkley is married to her high school sweetheart and lives with her seven year-old daughter on the eastside of Cincinnati. Her happy places are in dirt-stained overalls tending to her garden and passing a water polo ball with her family at their local pool.

LARRY JAMES Larry James has been at the heart of the Columbus business, legal, civic and political scene for the last 30 years. He is a respected litigator, as well as an advisor to local and national leaders. In recognition of his many achievements, the law firm changed its name from Crabbe, Brown, Jones, Potts & Schmidt to Crabbe, Brown & James in January 2001.

In 2011, The Ohio State University selected Mr. James as lead counsel to represent its student athletes in NCAA investigations. In 2013, Armen Keteyian published his book The System: The Glory and Scandal of BigTime College Football, a chapter of which is dedicated to Larry’s work in representing the OSU football players.

In 2012, Mr. James and his wife, Donna, were awarded the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus’ Humanitarians of the Year Award. In 2015, noted journalist Wil Haygood published his award-winning book Showdown: Thurgood Marshall and the Supreme Court Nomination That Changed America, which he dedicated to Mr. James.

Mr. James is a life member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference, and he has served as General Counsel of the National Fraternal Order of Police since 2001. He is also co-founder of the African-American Leadership Academy and a member of the Board of Trustees of Kenyon College.

JOSH SNEED Josh Sneed is a nationally touring comedian who’s had appearances on Comedy Central, including his own comedy special. He’s been seen on Last Comic Standing and is one of the most played artists on Sirius/XM radio.

Josh's new special, "Josh Sneed: Live in the Dessert", was released in 2018 by Dry Bar Comedy. Clips from the special have been viewed more than 50 million times. He has performed at the prestigious “Just For Laughs” Comedy Festival in Montreal, the Aspen Comedy Festival, and was chosen by Comedy Central to perform in their inaugural South Beach Comedy Festival. Josh finished 2nd out of 100 of Comedy Central’s top comedians in the Annual Stand-up Showdown Competition, and released an album on Comedy Central Records called “Unacceptable”, which iTunes selected as one of the Top 10 comedy albums released that year. His follow-up album, “Unsung Hero” also debuted at the Top of the iTunes comedy chart. He has made numerous appearances on the nationally syndicated “The Bob & Tom Show”, and performed on many stops of their sold-out theater tour. He's shared the stage with Dave Chappelle, Jim Gaffigan, Ron White, and Kevin Hart.

Josh is a headliner in standup comedy clubs around the country and has performed at numerous private and corporate events.

He currently resides in the Cincinnati area with his wife, two kids, and a pug named Ham.

JULIE BAUKE Julie Bauke believes that we all deserve careers that serve our lives.

REP. CINDY ABRAMS State Representative Cindy Abrams is serving her second term in the Ohio House of Representatives. She represents the 29th Ohio House District, which includes portions of western Hamilton County.

Abrams previously served as a Police Officer for the City of Cincinnati and as City Councilwoman for the City of Harrison before being appointed to the 29th district seat in 2019. With years of both public and private sector work experience, she is well-equipped to advocate for the people of Ohio’s 29th House District.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University and is a graduate of the Public Leadership Academy of The Ohio State University. Abrams is very involved in her community. She served on the boards of the Hamilton County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency, Hamilton County Municipal League, and SHELeads. Active in the Hamilton County Republican Party, Abrams serves on the Hamilton County Judicial Screening committee.

Additionally, she established the Harrison Junior City Council Program.

She has been married to her husband for 20 years and they reside in Harrison, Ohio with their two sons.

GREG LANDSMAN Representative Greg Landsman is a father and husband who is proud to call Southwest Ohio home.

Before joining the U.S. House of Representatives in 2023, Greg served on the Cincinnati City Council for five years where he led investments in public safety and core services. Greg also led the effort to establish the City of Cincinnati’s first-ever Office of Ethics and Good Government as well as the Balanced Development Scorecard to increase trust in local government and transparency in the development process.

Greg has spent his entire career advocating for children and families, especially those most marginalized. Prior to his time in elected office, Greg was a public school teacher and worked in education advocacy as the Executive Director of the Strive Partnership.

Greg also served as the Director of Faith-based and Community Initiatives under former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. There, he led Ohio’s efforts to help local churches and synagogues provide education and food programs in their communities.

A pragmatic leader, Greg has a long history of working with broad, bipartisan coalitions to get good, meaningful things done. In 2016, Greg led a successful ballot measure to pass the Cincinnati Preschool Promise, a program which provides two years of quality preschool education for every three- and four-year-old in Cincinnati. In 2018, he built a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, labor organizations, business leaders, and community members to pass the largest investment in transportation and infrastructure in Hamilton County’s history.

Greg earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Ohio University and a master’s degree in Theology from Harvard University. Greg and his wife, Sarah, live in Cincinnati with their two children, Maddie and Elijah.
