Cincinnati has long been lauded for its family friendliness, and Clermont County has a front row seat to the city’s best attractions, in addition to its own gems.

At the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, visitors come for the hippos, and stay for the interactive exhibits (Feeding a giraffe? Petting a snake? Yes and…yes?) and the jaw-dropping botanical gardens. In September 2025, the zoo celebrates 150 years of welcoming guests, so be sure to wish them a happy birthday!
Across the river, Newport Aquarium puts visitors face-to-face with some of the world’s most astonishing aquatic creatures and habitats: octopuses and moon jellies found in the Pacific’s Ring
of Fire exhibit, the king penguins of Antarctica, seahorses and poison dart frogs and stingrays—oh my!
For curious kids (and grown-ups), nothing beats a day at the Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC). From dinosaurs in the Museum of Natural History & Science and a miniature model of Cincinnati in the 1940s at the Cincinnati
History Museum to kid-powered machines at the Children’s Museum, traveling across space and time is as easy as A, B, CMC.
Thrill-seeking families will find their happy place at Kings Island
The combination amusement-and-waterpark promises endless excitement, with rides like The Beast, which has attracted roller coaster
enthusiasts for decades. Younger kids can enjoy pint-sized thrills at Planet Snoopy, and those who’d rather not soar through the skies at 65 m.p.h. can putter around in an old-timey car via the Kings Mills Antique Auto.
Chocolate-covered insects, 1,500 varieties of hot sauce, 1,400 kinds of
cheese. Durian, giant Sweet Tarts, a kombucha bar. There’s one place in Clermont County where you’ll find everything on your shopping list (and more): Jungle Jim’s International Market. The Eastgate location is even bigger than the original Fairfield store, so wear comfy shoes (and stretchy pants, because samples) for your culinary trip across the globe: Find items from more than 70 countries without leaving the store.
Ready to get down and dirty? The Paint Playground in Milford is a Jackson Pollock-esque experience sure to inspire your inner artist. Don a plastic poncho and prepare for the ultimate paint party while creating one-of-a-kind art and the messiest, best kind of memories.

Pro baseball? Pro football? Pro soccer and even pro hockey…in Cincinnati? Check, check, check, and check. Take your squad out to the ballgame at Great American Ball Park; whatever the Redlegs do on the field, the atmosphere and TriHealth Family Fun Zone (an epic playground with equally epic riverfront views) is always a home run. Same for the Cincinnati Bengals (Who Dey!), FC Cincinnati, and Cincinnati Cyclones; each of these professional leagues boast special family days, fun giveaways, and pre- and post-game perks for fans of all ages.
The Ohio River Way and the Ohio River Scenic Byway let you explore our area from two different perspectives.

Along the southern edge of Clermont County, the Ohio River and U.S. Route 52 parallel each other through small towns and the gently winding river valley landscape. Visitors can use each path to explore our region’s deep history, meet its people, and take advantage of the many outdoor activities available in Clermont County and Cincinnati.
Stretching through miles of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, The Ohio River Way is a 308-mile water trail uniting businesses, communities, and nonprofit organizations in conserving the river’s natural beauty, supporting river town economies—and providing on-water recreational opportunities. On dry land, the Ohio River Scenic Byway has similar goals. It spans 14 counties in southern Ohio and delivers an epic, 452-mile adventure, whether you go by car or by motorcycle.
so close to all the attractions of downtown Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky—experience 1 The Banks on the Cincinati Riverfront or cross the river for the 2 Newport Aquarium.
3 Riverbend Music Center and the PNC Pavilion at Riverbend play host to summer concerts from country acts to symphony concerts.
YOU BET!
Follow U.S. 52 all the way west toward Cincinnati, and you’ll find 4 Belterra Park & Gaming , with restaurants, a sportsbook, plenty of gaming, and live horse racing from late April to early October.
This sweet locale is worth a stop. Wholy Beans is New Richmond’s answer to Luke’s Diner of Gilmore Girls fame, while family-owned Front St. Café offers elevated American fare with a (river) view. There’s even the Cardboard Boat Museum, dedicated to celebrating winners of the town’s annual Cardboard Boat Regatta. Paddlers can put in at the town’s public landing.
Just off the Ohio River Scenic Byway in Point Pleasant sits the 6 Ulysses S. Grant Birthplace, just one example of the area’s historical sites. The Clermont Freedom Trail, 42 historic sites important to the Underground Railroad and the Abolitionist cause, is another. 7 Chilo’s Lock 34 Park museum is the perfect place to learn more about the river and its past.
However you prefer to do your outdoor exploring, Clermont County has the destination for you. Hike in scenic parks, spin down one of the nearby bike trails, or dip your paddle into the Ohio River. BY

Clermont County is an underrated treasure in terms of outdoor recreation. The county is one big playground for hikers; East Fork State Park has the most trails of any park in Ohio’s State Park system and offers a “choose your own adventure” for hikers. Easy to advanced, half a mile to 33 miles, rugged terrain or river views, East Fork has it all.
Stonelick State Park is a remote retreat in Clermont County with four ruggedly beautiful trails (some for bikers!).
Visit at night: the park hosts Cincinnati Observatory’s Stonelick Stargazers on select Saturday nights, making this an Ohio State Parks (ahem) dark horse.
Of course, Clermont County’s crown jewel is the Cincinnati Nature Center, an Edenic paradise complete with oldgrowth forest, fields of buzzing pollinators, native plants and animals aplenty, tree-lined lakes, and postcard-perfect boardwalks.
Bird’s the word!
Crooked Run State Nature Preserve is a 78-acre oasis for birdwatching. Use one of their three bird blinds to observe a variety of avian species including bald eagles, osprey, great blue heron, green heron, and a variety of ducks.
Head to Stonelick State Park for a thrilling game of disc golf. A brand-new addition to the park, wooded holes, tight technical lines, and water features make for a challenging and super-fun game.
Prefer two wheels to two feet? Clermont County has some of the best bike trails in Ohio. The Williamsburg to Batavia Trail is the perfect afternoon ride and packs a big punch of scenery, topography, and ease into its six miles. If abandoned places pique your interest, this path winds through abandoned roadways originally created during the construction of East Fork State Park—let your imagination run wild!
Speaking of East Fork, this Ohio State
Park’s eponymous mountain bike trail offers the kind of rugged terrain cyclists crave…be sure to fi ll up those tires, watch for wildlife, and wear a helmet!
Prefer paved? Clermont County offers easy access to the Little Miami Bike Trail ; at 78 miles long it’s one of the longest paved trails in the country. Hop on the trail from Loveland, Milford, Miami Township, Newtown, or Lebanon, and be sure to allow plenty of time to explore these “trail towns” post-ride.
There’s nothing like a day on the water, and Clermont County has it all: creeks, lakes, reservoirs, and rivers.
With 200 acres of water, swimming, fishing, sailing, and kayaking are popular activities at Stonelick Lake. In nearby Batavia, Sycamore Park boasts access to the East Fork of the Little Miami River and its own kayak launch with lots of parking—stay and wander around
Safety first!
Wilson Nature Preserve while you’re there. If you’re more of a river rat, Kelley Park has convenient canoe access to the Little Miami River and some of the most scenic river views in Clermont County. And if you’re ready to paddle the mighty Ohio, Chilo Lock 34 Park has direct river frontage and, for those who’d rather stay on solid ground, a scenic riverwalk.
Forget your life jacket? Borrow one! A life jacket loaner board can be found at the Hand Launch ramp on the east side of East Fork Park’s main beach.
One of the best ways to get to know a place is to sample its favorite foods. In addition to a strong farm-to-table dining scene, Clermont County and Cincinnati have a number of regional specialties you need to sample.

Clermont County’s rich agricultural history shows up in a number of area restaurants and food businesses worth exploring. Milford’s Bite Restaurant helps lead the farm-forward charge; this casual eatery grows all sorts of goodies on its two-acre property and rounds out the menu with contributions from local farmers. Local Honey Mustard Deviled Eggs? BBQ Chicken Cobb Salad with farm-fresh eggs? Yes please. Also in Milford, Harvest Market is a delightful grocery-meets-café and you can’t go wrong with their lunch specials, like the quesadilla plate with
house-made guacamole. Down the road from Harvest Market, 20 Brix is an award-winning restaurant that takes new American cuisine and traditional Southern cooking and adds a splash of classic French flair. The menu is crafted from scratch using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients prepared with love by Executive Chef David Marlow. Owner/Chef Gaetano Williams spins seasonal, farm-fresh ingredients into gold at his Loveland-based Tano Bistro, where sandwiches like the Johnny Apple Cheese and Bistro Burger are fan favorites.
Each September, the Clermont County Food and Farm Tour lets you meet the area’s agriculture all-stars and learn more about what they do. Get more info here:
The Queen City is a food city and Clermont County offers you a true taste. The city’s most famous contribution to the culinary world is Cincinnati-style chili, and while there are dozens of neighborhood chili parlors all over the city, Skyline and Gold Star reign. Order a plate of pasta your way: a classic 3-way (spaghetti, chili, and cheese), 4-way (a 3-way plus diced onions or beans) or 5-way (a 3-way plus diced onions and beans) at either local chain’s many Clermont County locations. Prefer pizza? LaRosa’s is a Cincy classic and nothing compares to the buttery crust and zesty sauce of a LaRosa’s pie. Then there’s Montgomery Inn, Cincinnati’s award-winning barbecue restaurant that’s not too fussy and all too delicious—don’t forget the Saratoga chips! Top it off with a scoop of the iconic black raspberry chip ice cream from Graeter’s, and you’ve got the makings of a well-rounded, Cincy-proud meal.

Born and raised in Clermont and Brown counties, respectively, Ulysses S. Grant served as the 18th President of the United States and his larger-than-life legacy can be traced along the Land of Grant Trail. Among the 17 sites on this self-guided adventure are the small white house near Big Indian Creek where Grant was born and the Clermont County Historical Society and Harmony Hill Dairy House Museum, where you can get a deeper understanding of Clermont County’s history. Be sure to carve out time for the Georgetown leg of the trail, which features Grant’s handsome brick boyhood home and the two-room schoolhouse where the eventual West Pointer and President began his education. Choose which sites to visit by scanning the QR code at right.
Ohio and her citizens played a key role in the fight for abolition, and Clermont County was an important hub for the Underground Railroad. The Clermont County Freedom Trail helps you explore 42 noteworthy historical sites, 22 of which are also part of the National Parks’ Service National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program. (Scan the QR code at right to explore the trail!)
Follow the path of the Ohio River and visit Cincinnati’s National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, home to an 1800s slave pen, where human beings were temporarily housed before being sold farther south. The John P. Parker House in Ripley, Ohio, tells the story of a boy born into slavery who later purchased his freedom and helped other enslaved people escape; the nearby John Rankin House inspired Eliza’s story in Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and is one of the most active and best-documented “stations” on the Underground Railroad.

Whether you prefer beer, wine, or spirits, Clermont County can make your cup runneth over. BY
SARAH McCOSHAM
In a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA), you can take your beverage with you as you stroll and explore—and there’s plenty to explore in Clermont County!
Loveland’s walkable downtown DORA packs in outdoor dining and dessert options, while Old Milford gives you plenty of sweet shopping options. If you’re lucky, you might be treated to outdoor music whilst strolling and sipping.
Farther east, Williamsburg is a postcard-perfect small town with places like the Paradise East taproom and longtime family-owned spots like Double E Cafe offering everything from craft beer to Bud Light—with a side of live music and horseshoes.
New Richmond’s downtown DORA lets you grab an IPA and stroll along the Ohio River for a total movie moment.
Looking for dinner and a movie… and drinks? RJ Cinema Distillery can be viewed while enjoying distilled spirits, small batch BBQ, and craft beers. For dessert, wander over to Jungle Jim’s and explore the foodie mecca.
Established in 2005 by local brew-couple Mike and Kathleen Dewey, Mt. Carmel Brewing Company is Cincinnati’s oldest craft microbrewery. The barn-style brewhouse has a gorgeous patio and plenty of outside space, where you can enjoy a pint of Coffee Brown Ale and an order of Bavarian Pretzel Sticks with Mt. Carmel’s signature Amber Ale beer cheese.
In Milford, Little Miami Brewing pairs brews with views. Located on the Little Miami River at the foot of Old Milford’s Main Street, it’s the perfect place to put up your feet and sip a Daydrinker IPA while you watch folks paddle down the river. With 30 taps in a converted Loveland car wash, Dana Vaughn Depenbrock’s DVD Brew has something for everyone, plus rotating food trucks, trivia, and other events.
Paradise East grew from a small operation in the back of a brewing supplies operation to have two taprooms (one in Anderson and one in Williamsburg) where the “ever-changing beer list” could feature anything from Peppercorn Pale Ale to Leapin’ Lederhosen Fest Ale. A rotating lineup of food trucks visit each location to keep you full.
In downtown Loveland, near the Little Miami Scenic Trail, Narrow Path Brewing creates award-winning beers like the Path Blue Ribbon American Lager. The brewery’s efforts support local causes, a key pillar of its “Craft. Community. Cause.” mission. Enjoy the open beer garden in the summer, and reserve a dome during colder months—you could end up in your own personal snow globe!
Bethel’s Harmony Hill Vineyards—open May through October—is a small-batch winery that’s one of the only producers of homegrown Black Currant Wine in the tristate. Sweet and tart, fruity and complex, oenophiles rave about this hard-tofind wine.
In Withamsville, Fulton Grove Winery mixes local grapes with Washington and California products to create handmade, small-batch wines. Try a flight and enjoy an afternoon in the country.
Feeling…spirited? Cincinnati Distilling in Milford features a swanky fine dining room and casual rooftop bar. The Burnt Orange Old Fashioned from the taproom would make Don Draper swoon, while the jalapeño-forward margarita from Cincinnati Distillery’s rooftop rum bar will set the bar high for all other margaritas.
Take a bit of Clermont County home with you in a bottle! Grant Whisky from The New Richmond Distilleries celebrates both U.S. Grant’s first major victory in the Civil War and the heritage of distilling in New Richmond—a craft founded there in 1835.
For a truly spirited night out, these bars, breweries, and restaurants have the perfect playlist.
Little Miami Brewing
Here, the calendar is packed: rock and covers from ZaaZoo, The Gamut, and Saint Cloud, classic rock harmonies from Harmonics, and singer/songwriter Chad Applegate are just a few of the local favorites—and there’s never a cover charge.
Harmony Hill
During the summer season (May through October), local singers and songwriters including the String Theory trio, Tracy Walker, and acoustic duo Honey Hush have played for winery guests.
Front Street Café
This family-owned farm-to-table café blends art, history, food, and culture to create a one-of-a-kind destination on the Ohio River in New Richmond. Enjoy live music every Friday and Saturday from established and up-and-coming acts.
