BECAUSE COMMUNITY MATTERS

Talbert House breaks ground By Kurt Backscheider kbackscheider@communitypress.com

A foreclosed apartment complex in East Price Hill is getting new life. The Talbert House joined several other agencies Aug. 9 in celebrating the groundbreaking of the Grand Development Initiative at 960 Grand Ave. The renovated apartment building will offer 39 single bedroom units when it’s completed next summer. “This is the first Talbert House supported apartment community in Cincinnati,” said Neil Tilow, president and CEO of Talbert House. “We hope to develop others across the region to help residents find affordable, safe housing in the neighborhoods they want to live – This photograph Mike Andriacco snapped of his friend’s daughter playing at Dunham Recreation Center was named the winner of the People of Price Hill category, as well as the overall grand prize winner, in Price Hill Will’s “Price Hill: Looking Up” photography contest.

Winners named in Price Hill Will’s photo competition By Kurt Backscheider kbackscheider@communitypress.com

The results are in. Winners of the third annual “Price Hill: Looking Up” photography contest sponsored by Price Hill Will were announced Friday, Aug. 24, at the Illuminating the Arts gallery walk. The judges named Mike Andriacco the winner of the People of Price Hill category, and also selected him to be this year’s grand prize winner. Andriacco, a Price Hill native who serves in the U.S. Air Force and is stationed in Louisiana, said the photo he entered was one he snapped of his friend’s daughter playing at Dunham Recreation Center. “When I get the chance to come home I do like to take pictures,” he said. “I live in Cincinnati through snapshots I’ve taken.” Andriacco said he enjoys seeing the positive changes that have taken place in

the neighborhood when he comes home to visit, and the photography contest is a great way to bring attention to Price Hill. He said he’s been interested in photography for the past few years and he entered the contest because it was a chance for him to participate in a hometown activity, even though he can’t be in his homeSee VIEWS, Page A2
