Schools to get $10,000 in revenue sharing plan Tax incentives shared by Milford
By John Seney jseney@communitypress.com
MILFORD — A revenue sharing agreement between the city of Milford and Milford schools will result in a payment of about $10,000 to the school district. City Manager Jeff Wright said the agreement was the result of property tax abatement incentives given to new economic development projects. When the payroll of the new business exceeds $1 million, the city has to pay the school district a
percentage of the excess, Wright said. He said there were two projects that triggered the payment in 2011, resulting in a little more than $10,000 owed to the school district. One project was 101 Main St., which houses the 20 Brix restaurant and the H.P. Thompson Co. The other project was 209 Castleberry Ct., which houses the Glenny Glass Co., Wright said. Schools Superintendent Robert Farrell said “it’s wonderful for us to get some revenue. It’s helpful to the schools.” Farrell said the payments could change year to year. “Every little bit helps,” he said.
Miami Twp., firefighters agree to new contract By John Seney

MIAMI TWP. — The trustees Nov. 20 approved a new threeyear contract with the firefighters union that will hold down costs for the township. “The contract will result in a savings over the next three years,” Township Administrator Larry Fronk said. “This contract is reflective of our current financial condition and our future financial uncertainties.” The new contract – which runs from Jan. 1, 2013, to Dec. 31, 2015 – provides raises for firefighters of 3 percent in 2013, 2 percent in 2014 and 1 percent in 2015. The union made concessions that will result in savings for the township, Fronk said. He said the major concession was an agreement to reduce holiday pay by 50 percent over the period of the contract. This concession offsets the cost of the raises, Fronk said.
He said the negotiations with the union representatives “went very well. They were very professional.” “This is the Fronk first time where a collective bargaining unit made concessions going into a new contract,” Fronk said. “The firefighters have set an example,” Trustee Mary Makley Wolff said. “I am extremely thankful to everyone involved.” Dan Berkebile, president of the firefighters union, said “we had a very amicable negotiation process, with give and take on both sides.” “We walked away with a deal everyone was satisfied with,” Berkebile said. Fronk said negotiations are ongoing for new contracts with the unions representing police and service department workers.

No changes in election results By John Seney jseney@communitypress.com
BATAVIA — The results of the Nov. 6 election did not change as a result of the votes being certified. Judy Miller, director of the Clermont County Board of Elections, said the board certified the results Nov. 27.

“Nothing changed,” Miller said. “There are no recounts.” She said the final tally included counting 2,699 provisional ballots countywide and an additional 185 absentee ballots that were not counted election night. Passage of the Batavia schools bond issue and tax levies, which won by just 36 votes on election night, held up in the
official count, passing with 2,638 votes in favor to 2,543 votes opposed, a 95-vote victory margin. The official count confirmed losses for levies in the Milford and West Clermont school districts, and for a safety levy in Goshen Township. The official results can be found at the website www.clermontelections.org.
