MainStrasse Village Association blames rain, heat for losses leading to bankruptcy
The 39th annual Maifest in Mainstrasse Village was a damp one for visitors earlier this year in May. The future of that event, and Goettafest and Oktoberfest are now uncertain.

COVINGTON – The MainStrasse Village Association filed for bankruptcy last week following a year of hard losses. The association, which organizes Maifest, Goettafest and Oktoberfest along the cobblestone streets of Covington, said a year of bad weather led to $145,000 in lost revenue. According to the association’s voluntary petition for bankruptcy, it owes 194 people and businesses more than $162,000. Excessive rain in May amounted to $25,000 lost at Maifest and a similar downpour cost the association $100,000 for Oktoberfest, according to filings. Excessive heat in June made Goettafest a bust as well, to the tune of about $20,000, documents state.

The group did not have insurance to cover the losses. Some of the unpaid dues include reimbursing security deposits from businesses, paying police for security and paying entertainers. The filing does not outline what will happen to
MainStrasse’s Goettafest, Maifest or Oktoberfest. Bankruptcy documents said athird party expressed interest in purchasing the rights to run the three major festivals in February 2017. However, the board of directors voted against the outsourcing of festivals. There will be a meeting of creditors at 10 a.m. Jan. 2.
Former Remke building to be redeveloped in Fort Mitchell Melissa Reinert Cincinnati Enquirer | USA TODAY NETWORK
FORT MITCHELL - There will be new life and new businesses coming to the former Remke property in Fort Mitchell. The Cincinnati-based real estate investment firm 360 Property Partners closed on the property last week. The property, located along Dixie Highway, had been vacant less than a year.
According to 360 Property Partners president David Birdsall, they will be re-purposing the building, cutting it up to make separate spaces. “We think we have come up with a plan that respects the past while making it usable for the future,” Birdsall said, but he would not reveal significant details. Birdsall said that the Fort Mitchell location is a great place for this project because of “great demographics, excellent downtown and urban vibes and a city gov-
ernment that understands and helps.” Fort Mitchell Mayor Jude Hehman said the project comes at the perfect time. “Our historic business district is experiencing unprecedented energy and we are excited to welcome new businesses into the Remke space that would complement our current businesses,” he said. “We like their vision of opening up the building on the Dixie side to make it visually appealing and attracting other specialty small businesses to the area.”
