once the fl ood comes," Davis said. "It was like a tsunami of water. It was crazy."

It’s just after 7:30 a.m. and, save for the two employees minding the shop, there’s not a soul in Roebling Point Books & Coff ee in Covington. Normally, this would be part of the morning rush, said owner Richard Hunt – a steady fl ow of customers getting their caff eine fi x on the way to work. These days, though, the “rush” is more of a trickle. Ever since April 17, when the nearby Roebling Bridge closed to vehicular traffi c (pedestrian traffi c is still allowed), morning sales have been down about 20 percent, Hunt said. Overall business has dropped about 10 percent. “It was immediate once they closed it,” Hunt said. “To some degree, it’s all about location. If you’re on their way, they’ll stop. And we’re no longer on anyone’s way.” The John A. Roebling Bridge is an icon in Cincinnati, a beautiful symbol of the city’s rich history and tradition. But it is also prone to closures. The bridge was closed in parts of 2006 and 2007 for some structural and electrical repairs, according to records from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokeswoman Nancy Wood. In 2009 and ’10, it was closed for a painting project. In 2018, it was closed for a little longer than a month after a driver ran into one of the columns. Then this April, softball-sized chunks of rock fell from one of the bridge’s towers. No one was injured, but offi cials closed the bridge to vehicles as a precaution. Areas across Greater Cincinnati are trying to recover after weekend downpours, but more rain is on the way. Landslides have closed roads in Northern Kentucky and Warren County.

Flooding hits Covington In Covington, where more than 5 inches of rain fells during Saturday and Sunday, Public Works Director Rick Davis said damage is "everywhere." Covington reported 12-15 streets were damaged across the city in a Monday afternoon news release. In a statement, Davis said he had three crews out cutting up trees, shoveling up mud and gravel, and using a backhoe and a Bobcat to clean up tornup asphalt. Much of the fl ooding occurred in the low spots of the Peaselburg and Lew-
