Indian Hill schools are once again helping students with disabilities plan ahead. During the spring, the district presented its first College and CaBooth reer Night for students with disabilities. Another is being organized for Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Indian Hill High School, 6865 Drake Road. This is a way to prepare students for a post-high school environment, said Kristi Booth, special education coordinator for the district and a coordinator of the event. It is geared toward providing students and their families with resources and information, Booth said. A total of 26 colleges, universities and organizations participated in the college and career night last spring. Booth said the event is for students with disabilities who are seeking post secondary

education or employment opportunities. She said this “transition planning” typically begins during a student’s 14th year. A vast amount of resources are available to these students, Booth said, adding that the college and career night helps direct students and their families toward some of these resources. “I had heard from several families following (the event) that they learned about options that they hadn’t previously known about,” said Andrea Brady, director of communications for the district. Participants at the previous college and career night included Xavier University, Ohio State University, the Special Olympics and a number of independent living and career exploration organizations among others. “We look to grow (participation) even more this year,” Booth said. Access to Shawnee Run Road from state Route 126 in Milford will be closed for up to two months while a bridge on the Little Miami Scenic (bike) Trail is replaced and a culvert repaired. Traffic will be detoured north on state Route 126, also called Glendale-Milford Road, to East Galbraith Road, which turns into Kugler Mill Road. Traffic will continue left on Given Road and back to Shawnee Run Road. The road closure follows the closure of a section of the Little Miami Scenic Trail at the Milford Trailhead due to a sinkhole caused by a culvert failure at state Route 126 and Shawnee Run Road. Janet Slater, communications coordinator with Friends of the Little Miami State Park, said stone walls and dirt have been washed out of a culvert that channels water beneath state Route 126 and the bike trail, leaving a 12-foot-deep empty space. In an alert on its website, Friends of the Little Miami State Park say the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources “will be working to-

gether to remediate the hazard, considered a high-priority emergency condition.” Slater said a sleeve will be inserted into the culvert and foam material used to fill the void. Meanwhile, the area has been fenced off and signs announcing the closure of a section of the Little Miami Scenic Trail have been posted at the Milford Trailhead and at Galbraith Road. David Haggard of Blue Ash said he recently came upon the trail closure as he was biking south along the Little Miami Scenic Trail. “To bypass, I used Glendale Milford at Galbraith and got back on the trail at the Milford bike entrance and parking,” Haggard said. Haggard found the experience harrowing and urged riders to stay away from the area – especially during rush hour. “I’m not sure which is more dangerous, the road or the sink hole in the bike path,” Haggard said. “Let’s hope no accidents occur while the path is being repaired and let’s hope the repair is quicker than two months.” Want to know more about what is happening in Milford?
