Extraordinary support for Grand Valley
Grand Valley Nature Preserve rangers work hard to make the former gravel excavation site in Camp Dennison as welcoming as possible to wildlife. They build special houses for Purple Martins, swallows and blackbirds. They dump discarded Christmas trees into the lakes every winter to provide underwater shelter for Bluegills, perch and catfish. Now, the seven part-time park rangers assigned to Grand Valley by Indian Hill – which has owned the property since 2002–are themselves in more comfortable conditions. Park rangers had been working out of what was essentially a small construction trailer at the nature preserve at 8270 state Route 126. But they recently moved into a new, 24-foot by 24-foot building partitioned off into a small office, break room, locker room and storage area. The park ranger station sits on a hill and has a front porch overlooking the nearly 380-acre Grand Valley Nature Preserve. That’s thanks to Indian Hill res-
» Indian Hill residents Barry and Ruth Bucher donated $71,750 to build a new park ranger station at the Grand Valley Nature Preserve. Indian Hill City Manager Dina Minneci described it as an “extraordinary generous donation.” “Mr. Bucher, owner of AIM MRO, has respected and been a continuous advocate of Grand Valley’s mission for many years,” Minneci said. “His dedication to strong community partnerships is well established as he also contributed to the construction of the Grand Valley pedestrian bridge. “As a simple ‘thank you’ does not seem sufficient for all that Mr. and Mrs. Bucher have done for Grand Valley, the village’s appreciation will be displayed on a dedication plaque that will be permanently placed on the ranger building,” Minneci said. » Indian Hill resident Tim Sharp donated his architectural services to design the park ranger station at the Grand Valley Nature Preserve. Sharp is vice president of the Megen Construction Co. of Forest Park and a member of the Grand Valley Nature Preserve advisory committee. He also is a former member of the Indian Hill Exempted Village School District Board of Education and continues to serve as the board’s representative to the Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development in Sharonville. “Tim’s time and dedication throughout the planning and design process deserve recognition for his outstanding service to the community,” said Assistant Indian Hill City Manager Jon West.

A new brewery and distillery named for the day of the year that both it and the state of Ohio were founded will start serving beer and cider in Sycamore Township April 28. March First Brewing, 7885 E. Kemper Road, features a taproom, beer garden and dock sales. Founders Mark Stuhlreyer and Kevin Kluener plan to focus on lagers as well as ciders made with Ohio-grown apples. They’ve spent the last year acquiring equipment and testing recipes – the lager they’ll have available at launch is on version No. 20. Also available at the grand opening are a heller bock, Denali IPA, dry hopped cider, dry limed cider and traditional cider. Coming soon are a lager-based Baltic porter, craft light pilsner, rose cider and mosaic pale ale. The brewery’s tap room has six taps now but plans to add more. Brewers Garrett Huber and Shae Pridemore most recently worked at Cellar Dweller, the brewery at Valley Vineyards in Morrow. Within the next couple of months, some of the planned distilled spirits, such as rum and vodka, will be available. Down the road, they’ll sell apple brandy, bourbon, rye and American whiskey. In the meantime, distribution is already underway, with March First beers in approximately 20 local bars and restaurants so far. Six-, 12- and 24-packs, See BREWING, Page 2A
