BECAUSE COMMUNITY MATTERS

FORT THOMAS — Kindergartner Quentin Tomlin wore a tie and fresh haircut as a way to look like he belonged at Moyer Elementary School’s Nov. 10 renovation groundbreaking. “Because today was a special day, I wanted my hair to be nice and look my best,” Tomlin said. Fort Thomas Independent Schools has started a $19.1 million project paid for with state tax dollars that will turn Moyer into a construction zone until April 2018. Portions of Moyer built in the 1950s and 1970s, including a back wing, will be demolished and rebuilt. Completion of a new back wing is scheduled for July 2017. Renovations of Moyer’s 1930 front section facing Highland Avenue will begin after the back wing is complete and are scheduled for completion in April 2018. Tomlin, who will be young enough to still be in school when construction is over, said the new building is going to look “awesome.” Laura Tomlin said her son asked for a haircut the night before the groundbreaking since he knows Matt Morel, project manager for Moyer’s renovation at Morel Construction Co. “He knew people would be dressed up today, so he wanted to look nice like they do,” she said. Morel said Tomlin is his neighbor. “I saw him with the tie and I though he looked fantastic,” the project manager said. Most of the work happening at Moyer will be behind the building, unseen from HighSee MOYER, Page 2A

TIME TO NOMINATE NEIGHBORS WHO CARE Nancy Daly ndaly@communitypress.com

Every year, around New Year’s, the Community Recorder salutes hometown people who show us what it means to be a good neighbor. We call it “Neighbors Who Care.” And we need your help. If you know someone who regularly embodies the spirit

of “Neighbors Who Care” we’d like to hear from you. Perhaps they organized a Neighborhood Watch in your subdivision, or they went to bat for a new recycling center. Or perhaps they started a clothing drive for homeless people. Maybe they helped out a family after a fire destroyed their house, or started a recre-
