FORT THOMAS - Jeff Mohr’s daily walks with his son Conner put them on the path to “ignite” nearly 100 other volunteers to join them for two days of trail blazing and park improvements. Bicycle trail enthusiasts, Duke Energy volunteers and Fort Thomas residents will gather at 8 a.m. Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, for the city’s Earth Day and Arbor Celebration – Ignite Fort Thomas Parks. Spring is a good time for trail work and thinking about the environment, Mohr said. “What better day to do it on than Earth Day?” he said. Mohr and a teams of volunteers will spend two days remaking a disc golf course and hacking a new trail through honeysuckle bushes at the 77-acre Highland Hills Park at the end of Mayfield Avenue. The new trail will link the existing trail to the end of Ohio Avenue. Volunteers will also work to improve the Landmark Tree Trail in Tower Park and plant a

Mohr said he decided to start the first “Ignite” city park improvement work day last July after clambering over fallen trees at Highland Hills Park trails on his daily walks with Conner. Spending time as a child in the woods is an experience Mohr works to share with his daughters and son. “I grew up walking in the woods in Alexandria,” Mohr said. “So I frequently walk in the CHRIS MAYHEW/THE COMMUNITY RECORDER

Fort Thomas unveils summer of live music plans Chris Mayhew cmayhew@communitypress.com

FORT THOMAS - So far, Grammy Award winners The Kentucky Headhunters are the biggest name among a lineup of musicians for 14 different free city outdoor concert and festival dates. The biggest name, a live act to headline the Sept. 24 Merchants & Music Festival, Fort Thomas’ premier festival, remains unknown, said Fort Thomas Economic Development Director Debbie Buckley. Last year’s Merchants & Music headliner was Bret Michaels. “We’ve got all but the headliner booked,” Buckley said of Merchants & Music. Merchants & Music will have performances from The Kentucky Headhunters, country and pop singer Tana Matz and country and classic rock duo Sundy Best, Buckley said.

WHO HAS TIME FOR INJURIES?

The market is moving to a new location in the parking lot outside Fort Thomas Antiques & Design Center at 90 Alexandria Pike, U.S. 27. Hours will be 3-7 p.m. each Wednesday. Each amphitheater concert, Art Around Towne night and farmers market have something else in common for people hungry for more than music, Buckley said. “We’re going to have different food trucks each time,” Buckley said.
