It's that time of the year again, the Newport Aquarium is offering one free child's admission with an adult ticket purchase. The deal runs through Feb. 28. Winter Family Days allows families full access to

the aquarium, from the shark tunnel to penguins, at a more affordable price. Children tickets are available for ages 2 through 12. An adult ticket costs $25. Winter Family Days is popular, the aquarium says, and popular days like weekends and holidays sell out fast. Aquarium officials suggest purchasing tickets in advance and online to ensure

visitors get passes on their preferred date and time. In January and February, the aquarium is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The offer of one kid free with each full price adult will be available at the Newport Aquarium ticket window, online at NewportAquarium.com or by phone at 800-406-FISH (3474).

Fort Thomas native Betty Daniels, one the people responsible for creating a Campbell County public library system, has died. She died Jan. 1 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Fort Thomas. She was 93. Mrs. Daniels led volunteers in 1978 to gather signatures of 11,651 registered voters to create a county property tax to pay for libraries. The Campbell County Public Library was created. Mrs. Daniels became the library's first president. Without Mrs. Daniels, there might not be a county library system, said library director J.C. Morgan in a 2011 Campbell County Recorder article. "She ran the volunteer library that was in Fort Thomas for five or six years, and then it was her and the Fort Thomas Women's Club that really spearheaded the petition drive," Morgan said in the article. will open Jan. 16. The Enquirer selected Mrs. Daniels as a recipient of its Women of the Year award for 1986. Leading efforts to save Fort Thomas' U.S. Army mess hall was among reasons cited for by The Enquirer for her selection. The city of Fort Thomas turned the mess hall into a community center.
