Johnson expects about 300 people to attend. She said this is an important community event because it gets people to come together for fun and to learn about local businesses. “We like to promote local business and our motto is ‘shop local’,” Johnson said. “That’s our purpose as an association. We have this event so people know about our businesses here, the businesses will have booths set up. We have opportunities like this for our businesses because we want to show how well our city is doing and keep our businesses here, as well as attract new businesses.” Want to continue the conversation? INDEPENDENCE — Doug Bickel, 93, wants to be remembered. “I don’t want to be forgotten,” said Bickel, a veteran of World War II. “I fear we will all be forgotten someday.” There’s an effort spreading across Northern Kentucky, however, to battle this hero’s fear. American Legion Post 275 Moon Brothers are leading the charge. The Moon Brothers work to create awareness and support for all veterans, according to Moon Brothers member Bill Schneider. “We’ve got to continue to honor those who have served our

There’s not many a 10-year-old who is comfortable using a hammer or screwdriver. But for Clarissa Miller it’s as easy as holding a Barbie doll. Miller, of Crescent Springs, loves a good project that calls for these tools. In fact, she takes on such a project about once a month at the Crescent Springs Home Depot Kids Workshop. The Kids Workshop, for those between ages 5 and 12, take place 9 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of every month. Each month features a different project, sometimes themed with a holiday. Registration is at http://thd.co/ available 1SBG2nP. “I love making the projects,” she said. “It’s fun.” In July, Miller reached a Kids Workshop milestone, receiving her 75th participation pin when she completed a Minions motorcycle. This is the first 75th pin to be given at the Crescent Springs location.
