CRESTVIEW HILLS — Paul Meier at-
tends a lot of meetings. The Crestview Hills mayor’s meeting schedule is full. Chairman of the Kenton County Mayor’s Group, he also serves on the Planning and Development Services Council. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the board of the Northern Kentucky Area Development District and the executive board of the Kentucky League of Cities. “He’s never one to be checking his watch or looking at his cellphone in a meeting,” said friend and Crestview Hills Councilman Frank Sommerkamp Jr. “He’s all in. If you like what you’re doing, then you’ll do it well. That’s the neat thing about Paul, he likes what he does.” Meier also serves as a member of Redwood’s Board of Overseers and has led efforts for Redwood to stay current with technology advances. As chair of the Technology Committee for the past 15 years, he identifies technology trends, evaluates their applications and oversees implementation of technology upgrades while negotiating service agreements. Most recently he negotiated a donation of fiber optics service that gives Redwood better Internet service. Meier’s work was recently honored by Redwood when he received the Dorothy Jean Wood Award. This award honors an individual whose service to Redwood exemplifies that of the late Dorothy Wood, a See MEIER, Page 2A

Kenton County Fair ‘like a family reunion’ Melissa Stewart mstewart@communitypress.com
INDEPENDENCE — Allen Jones likens the Kenton County Fair to a family reunion. “You get to see those you maybe haven’t seen in a while,” said Jones, fair board president. “The fair is for all of Kenton County. It’s gratifying to help put on an event that’s for all our citizens and neighbors. It’s really a great time for the entire family. You can relax, enjoy good ole fair food and wholesome entertainment.” This year’s fair will take place Monday through Saturday, July 13-18, at the Kenton County Fairgrounds, 2836 Harris Pike, Independence. Rides and games will be open from 6-11 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday. Fair spokeswoman Sarah LaFollette said the usual fair favorites will once again be on the agenda, including the Miss Kenton County Pageant, the Baby Show, and the tractor pulls and derby events. “People keep coming back for these events,” she said. “They’re always a big hit. The fair is a great family activity. There’s something for everybody.” For a full event listing, visit www.kentoncountyfair.com. According to Jones, the heart of the fair are the many volunteers who pull off the week-long event year after year. Every year the fair board selects a volunteer to dedicate the fair to. This year, Jim Kannady has been selected. Jones

said that Kannady is very deserving of this honor for his many years of service to the fair. Kannady, who runs an auctioneer business, has volunteered his talents and staff to the 4-H/Future Farmers of America (FFA) Livestock Sale of Champions. “The sale of champions is the highlight of the fair, in my opinion,” Jones

said. “Jim has played a valuable role in the fair throughout the years,” Jones said. “Volunteers, like Jim, are such a valuable asset to an organization like ours. They give from the heart. Without all of our volunteers, this organization couldn’t survive.” Want to continue the conversation? Tweet @MStewartReports
