At least three Northern Kentucky farmers markets have already opened for 2017. Covington Farmers Market opened for business on Saturday, April 22.

The Dixie Farmers Market in Erlanger welcomed customers for the season on Thursday, April 27.

Independence Farmers Market was next to open on Saturday, April 29, in downtown Independence at Courthouse Square. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 28.

Northern Kentucky has ample outdoor venues to link the farm to your dinner table.

Whether you have a specific recipe in mind or you’re looking to be inspired by seasonal fresh produce, why not buy fruits and vegetables directly from the farmer who just picked them earlier this morning.

While most farmers markets are once-a-week affairs, Boone County Farmers Market will be open seven days a week after the 34 vendor booths kick things off on Saturday, May 6.

Located beside the Boone County Extension and Enrichment Center, 1961 Burlington Pike, Burlington, Boone County’s daily hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through May 28. Midsummer expanded hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. run through Sept. 3. The year’s farmers market winds down Sept. 4 to Oct. 31 by returning to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours.

PARK HILLS – Covington Catholic High School Class of 2017 graduate Logan A. Franxman will attend Rep. Thomas Massie’s April 29 U.S. Service Day Academy to thank the congressman.

After all, it was Massie’s nomination that helped Franxman gain entrance into the U.S. Naval Academy in Annap-

olis, Maryland, according to a news release from CovCath.

Covington Catholic is a private Catholic all boys high school in Park Hills.

Massie’s annual service day is for candidates for each of the military service officer training school’s including the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Franxman will report for duty June 29 to train to become a Navy or Marines officer.

Franxman will join Annapolis’ Class of 2021 once successfully completing seven weeks of “Plebe Summer” status.

The naval academy is a 47month academic program with course loads of 18 collegelevel credit hours per semester.

Franxman is ranked in the top 6 percent of his graduating class. He is active in CovCath’s National Honor Society and cross country and track teams.

Fort Thomas woman helps young crime victims

A Bromley man found guilty of sexually assaulting minors threatened to kill his victims if they told anyone, prosecutors said.

After an investigation by the Ludlow Police Department, police found that Alfie Compton, 40, had assaulted two minors in Ludlow and Bromley for a number of years.

According to police, Compton repeatedly sexually abused a female victim from the time she was six years old until she was approximately 12 or 13.

Police also identified a

second victim, who was repeatedly raped by Compton between Compton the ages of 13 to 18 years old.

After the assaults, police said Compton threaten to kill the victims if they disclosed the abuse.

He would take them to Devou Park and would tell them he would leave their bodies there if they ever reported him to police.

At the trial in April 2017, both victims testified they did not come for-

ward earlier for fear of those threats. One victim is still a minor.

According to the Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Office, the jury deliberated for about three and a half hours on April 13 before finding Compton guilty on all counts – two counts of sodomy, one count of sexual abuse and one count of rape.

On April 14, after more testimony and deliberations, the jury recommended a jail sentence of 30 years, prosecutors said.

Assistant Commonwealth Attorneys Maria Schletker said she thinks the verdict and sentence recommendation from the jury were just.

Schletker said while the past actions cannot be erased she is glad the victims will see justice.

Compton will be sentenced in Kenton Circuit Court on June 12. He must register for life as a sexual offender and will not be eligible for parole for at least 20 years, according to prosecutors.

ed in felony sexual and physical abuse cases to represent the victim’s needs throughout the criminal trial process.

“I am honored to be involved with CLC and this wonderful cause,” said Durbin. “Crime victims face many legal issues and barriers because of the victimization and having an attorney equips the victim with power they are often lacking because of the crime.”

Besides working at Children’s Law Center, Durbin serves on two regional task forces designed to create law enforcement and health care protocol in cases involving human trafficking victims. She is also vice-president of Northern Kentucky Regional Mental Health Court.

Prior to joining CLC, Durbin worked for eight years as a felony prosecutor, predominantly prosecuting cases involving sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and child abuse.

Before prosecution, she worked during law school at University of Cincinnati’s Domestic Violence and Civil Protec-

tion Order Clinic. She received her law degree from University of Cincinnati and obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree in psychology from the University of Kentucky.

Durbin is taking cases under the project along with current employees Emily Cochran, Amy Halbrook, and soon-to-be Executive Director Acena Beck.

Based in Covington, Children’s Law Center Inc. is a unique nonprofit legal service center protecting the rights of children and youth to help them overcome barriers and transition into adulthood, better advocate for their needs, and successfully contribute to society. It provides individual legal advocacy to children and youth, and through public policy work, training and education, impact litigation, and juvenile defender support services, seeks to improve the systems that serve them. CLC offers services in both Kentucky and Ohio, and collaborates with other organizations within the region and nationally on a variety of topics.

The Children’s Law Center’s newest attorney will specialize in helping young people who have been victims of crime.

Denise Durbin, of Fort Thomas, joined the Denise CLC in Durbin February to work under the Crime Victim Project.

The project is currently underway and is a grant-funded program by the Victims of Crime Act. CLC has been representing crime victims for more than 20 years and this new program will allow attorneys to expand services.

The Crime Victim Project provides legal services to youth victims of family, dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and a variety of other types of crimes. The primary goal is to provide legal services to youth who need assistance because of the crime committed against them. Attorneys working on the project are also appoint-

Music education honored at Walton-Verona Walton-Verona Independent Schools in Kentucky are being recognized by The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation as Best Communities for Music Education.

The awards program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of the curriculum. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

The NAMM Foundation designated 527 of the nation’s 13,515 school districts this year as Best Communities for Music Education and 92 individual schools as SupportMusic Merit Award winners. These districts and schools set the bar in offering students access to

A recent study of stu-

dents in the Chicago Public Schools by brain researchers at Northwestern University, detailed in Neuroscientist and Education Week, builds on previous findings that participation in music education programs helps improves brain function, discipline and language development.

“The links between student success and music education have now been demonstrated by brain researchers in multiple studies,” said Mary Luehrsen of The NAMM Foundation. “The schools and districts our foundation recognizes are building on that connection between music and academics. These schools and districts are models for other educators who see music as a key ingredient in a well-rounded curriculum that makes music available to all children, regardless of ZIP code.”

DARE to stay drug free. What a powerful statement for the fifthgraders at Florence Elementary to pledge before entering into middle school, the peer pressuring years.

Officer Adam Argullin with the Florence Police Department met with the fifth-grade students for 10 weeks, teaching them the dangers of tobacco, marijuana, alcohol and other drugs. More important, Argullin opened a line of communication with the students as a helping role and not an enforcement role. The students were able to relate to him on a personal level.

Argullin shared his interests and listened to the

dreams and interests of 100 students.

The program let the students practice different ways to say “no” when approached about using drugs.

To conclude the program each student wrote an essay expressing what they learned about drug abuse. One student from each class was chosen to read their essay at the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) graduation. The winners were Aubrey Routte, Marlee Vier, Kaylee Marksberry and Bolo Ndiaye.

Officer Josh Dalton along with his co-worker Det, a K-9, made a special appearance during the graduation program. Det

is a helpful asset to the police force with his keen sense of smell. He is a passive response dog. After performing a task such as searching for a person, article or drugs he will simply sit down.

Det is a quiet dog who is commanded to bark.

Dalton had Det demonstrate his obedience and training for the students and their parents.

To conclude the program, Argullin surprised the students with a drumming expo by playing a few familiar songs. He grew up in a musical family and was pulled between becoming a police officer or pursuing a musical career. He is now able to enjoy both.

Conner High School’s Leadership League continues to lead Conner High School’s Leadership League helps students realize their leadership potential.

Leadership is an extremely important trait for all students.

The Leadership League is a group of students who implement and oversee projects to enhance Conner High School’s academic and social culture. These student projects have included: a recycling project, the Breakfast Club, tutoring sessions and most recently a test strategies workshop. The test strategies workshop was conducted after school to help students achieve their best. Teachers met with groups of students to help enhance their test taking skills.

The Leadership League’s motto is “Leadership is not a position, it is an action.” And this is quite evident in the worthwhile projects they undertake. According to one of the advisors, William Jones, who said, “Students have the opportunity to see their dream project become reality with the support of their peers.”

Conner High School thanks those teachers who spent time after school working with students to help them be more college and career ready. Those teachers include: Allison Long, Morgan Medious and Kim Shearer. Further thanks goes out to the Leadership League advisors William Jones and Caroline Osborne.

Osborne inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta Amanda Osborne, of Erlanger, was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta chapter at University of the Cumberlands during its annual banquet on March 30.

Alpha Lambda Delta is the national freshman honor society that recognizes outstanding academic achievements by students in their first year of college. The organization seeks to promote a high standard of learning and the development of meaningful goals. Membership is available for full-time freshmen with at least a 3.5 GPA.

The legendary Hot Brown In the 1920s, the Brown Hotel drew more than 1,200 guests each evening for its dinner dance. By the wee hours of the morning, guests would grow weary of dancing and make their way to the restaurant for a bite to eat. Sensing their desire for something more glamorous than traditional ham and eggs, Chef Fred Schmidt set out to create something new to tempt his guests’ palates. His unique dish? An open-faced turkey sandwich with bacon and a delicate Mornay sauce. The Hot Brown was born!

Ingredients 1 1/2 tablespoons salted butter 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 1/4 cup Pecorino Romano cheese, plus extra for garnish Pinch of ground nutmeg Salt and pepper 14 oz. sliced roasted turkey breast, sliced thick 4 slices of Texas toast (crusts trimmed) 4 slices of bacon 2 Roma tomatoes, sliced in half Paprika Parsley

Instructions In a two-quart saucepan, melt butter and slowly whisk in flour until combined to form a thick paste or roux. Continue to cook roux for 2 minutes over medium-low heat, stirring frequently. Whisk heavy cream into the roux and cook over medium heat until the cream begins to simmer, about 2-3 minutes. Remove sauce from heat and slowly whisk in Pecorino-Romano cheese until the Mornay sauce is smooth. Add nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste.

For each Hot Brown, place one slice of toast in an oven safe dish and cover with 7 oz. turkey. Take the two halves of Roma tomato and two toast points and set them alongside the base of turkey and toast. Pour half of the sauce over the dish, completely covering it. Sprinkle with additional cheese.

Place entire dish under a broiler until cheese begins to brown and bubble.

Remove and cross two pieces of crispy bacon on top. Sprinkle with paprika and parsley and serve immediately.

NKU is a regional asset that’s on the rise I

t’s an ill-kept secret that teachers anticipate the end of the school year just as much as students. Maybe even more so. But right now, there’s more to be excited about at Northern Kentucky University than summer break. This year has been one of the most historic in school history, and it’s only May. By far, the biggest story of the year was NKU’s trip to the NCAA men’s basketball tournament during its first year of eligibility, after a Horizon League tournament championship. Not to mention Coach John Brannen’s Horizon League Coach of the Year award, earned in large part from a 24-11 season, a vast improvement over last year’s 9-21 record.

Although the Norse didn’t advance in the tournament, they did have a strong showing against perennial powerhouse University of Kentucky, and received free exposure on national media outlets including ESPN, Sports Illustrated and CBS. The Norse were also ranked as the NCAA tournament school with the best value.

While basketball grabbed the most headlines this year, NKU also had numerous aca-

demic accomplishments.

First is the announcement of a partnership with UK and St. Elizabeth to bring a Josh Blair regional medical school to COMMUNITY RECORDER GUEST NKU. Then COLUMNIST there is the construction of the Health Innovation Center, set to be complete next year.

These two projects leverage NKU to make our region and state a healthier place.

In addition, there’s the designation of Military Friendly School for the seventh year in a row and, forgive me for mentioning basketball again, the University of Cincinnati men’s team choosing to play its home games at BB&T Arena while Fifth Third Arena is renovated.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll get some transfers after they see how nice our campus is. I highly recommend the 11-foot climbing wall in the pool of the newly renovated Campus Rec Center.

Most importantly, after decades of work by current and former NKU leaders and community members, our university will finally see a

more fair funding model based upon student outcomes. This will fix the funding disparity that has left NKU greatly underfunded for many years.

I urge lawmakers in Frankfort to keep this momentum going. State funding to Kentucky universities has dropped 32 percent since 2008, almost double the national average. In 2002, the end of my freshman

year at NKU, the state covered 71 percent of funding and tuition covered 29 percent. At the end of last school year, the state covered 44 percent and tuition covered 56 percent.

Tuition has increased more than 33 percent since 2008.

Can you imagine if the price of gas, milk or homes went up 33 percent in eight years? People would lose their minds.

(For the record, the price of those three have gone down or remained about the same since 2008). Unfortunately, it seems the only ones outraged at the steep rise in tuition costs are students and their parents who work hard to afford to finance an education. I see this every day in my classroom: students working full-time, working two jobs or, in some unfortunate cases, dropping out because they can’t afford tuition.

This doesn’t just hurt students, it hurts our state and our communities. When college becomes unaffordable for many, enrollment goes down.

This is a double-edged sword; lower enrollment leads to further lost revenue. We need quality, affordable higher education to develop talented, skilled, educated graduates who can enter the workforce, further bolstering our state and local economies.

So far, 2017 has been the year of NKU. I hope the remainder of the year continues to see this regional asset on the rise.

How victims stay informed about attackers This article will address the system in Kentucky known as VINE which stands for Victims’ Information and Notification Everyday and other resources available to victims of crimes.

Kentucky initiated its Victims’ Notification System as a result of the death of a 21-yearold girl from Louisville who was shot and killed by her exboyfriend on her 21st birthday.

That boyfriend had been previously incarcerated for raping and kidnapping the girl and had just been released without the girl’s knowledge and just before shooting her seven times as she left work. If the girl had known about her attacker’s release from jail, she may very well have been able to take precautions to protect herself.

Considering the problems demonstrated by the above noted case, Kentucky created the VINE System which was the nation’s first statewide automated victim notification system. VINE alerts victims about changes in the custody status of an offender. The sys-

tem includes data from county jails, prisons, mental health facilities and juvenile detention centers. Other resources for victims and the general public include the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup (KOOL) system where you can search Kentucky’s prison system for inmate information. The system includes data on inmates location, parole eligibility and information, expected time to serve, risk assessment rating, aliases, and conviction information. You can search the KOOL system at: http://kool.corrections.ky.gov/.

Another system now available to victims is the VINE Court Services, which is a service where victims can register to receive telephone and email notification when their offender’s court event status changes. Victims can register by calling 1-800-511-1670. Victims can also contact the prosecutor’s office to speak with a Victim Advocate to receive updates and information on the criminal case.

Lastly, Campbell County, similar to many other Kentucky counties, also has the jail tracker system where the general public can see and search current inmates at the Campbell County Detention Center.

Treatment options expand for clavical fractures in kids Clavicle (collar bone) fractures are among the most commonly occurring fractures in kids, and they are definitely the most common shoulder fracture. Typically, they occur when the point of the shoulder strikes the ground (like being tackled in football) or perhaps striking a wall (like being aggressively checked in hockey).

Clavicle fracture symptoms can include shoulder pain, tenderness, swelling, bruising, deformity, and pain moving the affected arm.

Xrays of the clavicle are the mainstay of diagnosis. Should your child be diagnosed with a clavicle fracture, it is important to have your child evaluated by a doctor who specializes in the treatment of clavicle fractures.

Mild fractures, and the majority fractures in younger children, are rather easily treated with a sling and activity modification until proper bone healing occurs (can take 2-3 months), while more substantial fractures may undergo surgery based on the activity-related goals of the patient and family.

The clavicle has completed the vast majority of its growth potential (greater than 80 percent of final length) by a surprisingly early age (9 years of age in girls and 12 years of age in boys). Beyond these ages we simply don’t expect to see the impressive remodeling potential demonstrated by younger children. Thus, older children, specifically those with significant fracture displacement, may benefit from surgical correction.

The good part of non-operative treatment (e.g. sling) is that it is not surgery and thus the risk of things like surgical complications are essentially zero. The bad part is

that when kids’ clavicle fractures are treated nonoperatively it may take a lot longer before they can reCharles turn to their Mehlman desired sports activities (as COMMUNITY RECORDER GUEST compared to COLUMNIST surgical treatment).

The good part about surgery for clavicle fractures is that the normal anatomy of the clavicle is restored and many patients report that their pain was much less. The bad part about surgery is that it, (1) cannot be done without a scar, (2) may result in permanent numbness of the skin around the shoulder incision, and (3) there may be a need for repeat surgery in the future to take out the plate and screws.

Overall the options for clavicle fracture care have expanded and treatment decisions should be tailored to the goals of the patient and family.

When Covington Catholic junior A.J. Mayer committed to play football at Miami April 9, he guaranteed that Northern Kentucky would have a Football Bowl Subdivision quarterback signee for the fifth straight year.

Not a bad run for a region that sometimes gets overshadowed by the state to its north and other sections of the Bluegrass State. And while those in the Tristate know Northern Kentucky produces some very good gridiron players, it appears the rest of the country is starting to catch on, too.

Mayer, the 2016 5A District Five Player of the Year, chose Miami over the likes of Akron, Ohio and Ball State.

“Miami is a great opportunity,” he told the Enquirer following his commitment. “Great academics, great campus. The coaches are awesome. They’re on the rise right now. They have great new facilities.

Coach (Chuck) Martin is a great guy and he knows what he’s doing. I thought there were guys who might take the spot so I pulled the trigger.”

Along with Mayer, there are six other Northern Kentucky players in the 2018 class that currently have Division I scholarship offers. Mayer’s teammate, linebacker/defensive end Kameron Butler, currently holds nine scholarship offers including schools like Vanderbilt, Marshall and Western Kentucky. Ryle’s Parker Bisek is listed as the top offensive lineman in the state by 247sports.com. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound offensive guard currently has five offers with his most recent coming on April 12 from Ohio.

Northern Kentucky is coming off a banner season for recruits with former Ryle quarterback, Tanner Morgan, having enrolled early at Minnesota in January and Holy Cross’ Derrick Barnes signing to play linebacker at Purdue. Barnes,

who led Holy Cross to the Class 2A state semifinals, chose the Boilermakers on national signing day. He was first-team allstate at linebacker and an Enquirer Fall all-star at running back.

“As good as he was on offense, his passion is to play defense, to knock people down and make big plays,” Holy Cross head coach Bruce Kozerski told the Enquirer on signing day. “He’s a big gamechanger on defense. You’ve seen it all year long and we expect to see that from him in the future.

They’re very excited about him. As physically developed as he is for a kid who doesn’t turn 18 until May, it’s an amazing story.”

Barnes’ commitment to a Big Ten program from a small 2A school shows the depth of talent in Northern Kentucky.

This winter Bishop Brossart saw its first player in program history sign with a Division I program when lineman Matthew Blank agreed to attend Morehead State. Beechwood’s Riley Burns is having an incredible lacrosse season for the Northern Kentucky Warriors. The senior attacker currently ranks third in the state in goals, assists and points and is fifth in the Commonwealth in faceoff percentage.

Through 13 games this season, Burns has accounted for 63 of the Warriors’ 184 goals and 36 of the team’s 85 assists.

His 99 points is easily the highest of any Northern Kentucky lacrosse player and he is winning faceoffs at a .651 clip. He has recorded double-digit points in six games this season with his highest total coming in the team’s most recent win – a 22-7 defeat of Oldham County on April 29.

In that contest, Burns recorded seven goals and six assists for 13 points. His six helpers were a season-high. He had a season-high eight goals on March 25 in a 17-6 win against Woodford County. He is committed to play Division II lacrosse at Tusculum College in Tennessee following this season.

“He’s having a great season, being a senior, having the season he’s having, he’s been a real leader for the team,” second-year Warriors coach Logan Jeffries said. “For him, he has had a lot of statistical success, but we have so many weapons. They really help open things up for each other.”

With Burns’ explosive play – especially his capacity to feed teammates the ball – plenty of other players are finding the net this season. One of those players is junior attack-

er, Jake Massie. Massie, also a Beechwood product, has scored 53 goals this season for the Warriors (8-5), ranking fifth in the state in goals. His 67 points lists him at sixth in the state. Senior midfielders, Blake Berry and Geoff Davis, are both committed to playing lacrosse at Missouri Baptist, and are also having big seasons.

Berry ranks third on the team in goals and is tied for third in points with 18 and 30, respectively. Davis is currently fourth in goals (nine) and tied for fifth in points (11). Junior midfielder, Jake Moore, is third in goals this season with 19 and has racked up 30 points.

“It’s important to have good

players at every level, you need the skilled midfielders to get the attackmen the ball, having them has been very beneficial,” Jeffries said. “We have a great defense, a lot of juniors and seniors that have really done exceptionally well.

We have Blake and Geoff and we also have Jake Moore, who also goes to Beechwood, that’s a great midfielder. We’ll have a lot of guys back next year.

We’ve got a lot of guys that have come a long way and developed.”

Of the Warriors five losses this season they have only lost to two Kentucky teams – Covington Catholic and Tates Creek. Jeffries is confident their strong play will help them as they head into the postseason.

“We expect a successful playoff run, make it to the quarterfinals, semifinals,” he said.

The Warriors, a club that consists of players from 10 Northern Kentucky schools – Beechwood, Highlands, Holy Cross, Ryle, Boone County, Conner, Cooper, Walton-Verona, Simon Kenton and St. Henry – recently launched a third and fourth-grade team. Burns and Massie have both been playing the sports since middle school. That development, Jefferies – a former Warriors player himself – says, goes a long way in developing a player like Burns.

“It’s vitally important to start lacrosse early,” Jeffries said. “It’s hard to take kids, in the high school level, that have only been playing two or three years and develop them quickly. I know this year we have a full youth program, which is excellent to see.”

MYTH: Leftovers are safe to eat until they smell bad.

FACT: Smell is not an indication of whether food is safe to eat.

There are different types of bacteria, some of which cause illness in people and others that don’t. The types of bacteria that cause foodborne illness do not affect the taste, smell or appearance of food.

Freeze or toss refrigerated leftovers within three to four days even if they smell and look fine. If you’re not sure how long leftovers have been in the refrigerator, toss them.

MYTH: Putting chicken in a colander and rinsing it with water will remove bacteria like salmonella.

FACT: Rinsing chicken in a colander will not remove bacteria. In fact, it can spread raw juices around your sink, onto your counter tops, and onto ready-to-eat foods. Bacteria in raw meat and poultry can only be killed when cooked to a safe minimum internal temperature, which for poultry

is 165 °F, as measured by a food thermometer.

MYTH: Only kids eat raw cookie dough and cake batter. If we just keep kids away from the raw products when adults are baking, there won’t be a problem.

FACT: Just a lick can make you sick. No one of any age should eat raw cookie dough or cake batter because it could contain germs that cause illness.

Whether it’s pre-packaged or homemade, the heat from baking is required to kill germs that might be in the raw ingredients. The finished, baked, product is far safer – and tastes even better. And remember, kids who eat raw cookie dough and cake batter are at greater risk of getting food poisoning than most adults are.

MYTH: “I can’t refreeze foods after I have thawed them. I have to cook them or throw them away.

FACT: If raw foods such as meat, poultry, egg products and seafood have been thawed in the refrigerator, then

they may be safely refrozen without cooking for late use. There may be a quality decrease, but as long as it was thawed totally in the refrigerator, it is safe.

MYTH: Of course I wash all the bagged lettuce and greens- I could get sick if I don’t.”

FACT: While it is important to wash most fresh fruits and veggies, packaged greens labeled ready-to-eat,” “washed” or “triple washed” do not need to be washed at home.

MYTH: You should never dry fresh fruits and vegetables after rinsing them.

FACT: Research has found that using a clean cloth or paper towel to blot dry fresh fruits and Vegetables further reduces the level of harmful bacteria on the surface of fresh produce.

But remember – the towel must be clean.

The Blessed Virgin of Fatima told little Lucia (later Sister Lucy):“Jesus wants to use you to make Me known and loved. He wants to establish the devotion to My Immaculate Heart in the world. I promise salvation to all those who embrace it and their souls will be loved by God as flowers placed by Myself to adorn His Throne.” Later, the Blessed Virgin requested that Russia be consecrated to Her Immaculate Heart by the Pope and Bishops of the world or, as She predicted, evils, wars, and atrocities would come to pass. In preparation for the 100 year anniversary of Her apparition and seeing the evils which She predicted coming to pass, we are moved by an intense desire to make reparation to Her Immaculate Heart for sin, to offer to Her the devotion belonging to Her as our Mother and Queen, and to pray for the Consecration of Russia to Her Immaculate Heart while begging Her to protect Holy Mother the Church.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired as a supervisor from Cincinnati Bell Telephone after 38 years of employment. He was a member of Runyan Memorial Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and he was a member of the former Golden Rule Masonic Lodge No. 345 F.&A.M. He played minor league baseball for the Cleveland Indians, played softball into his 80s, and regularly visited Rosedale Green to see old friends and the ill.
