Helmet brings back memories

When Chris Freeman was 12 years old he spotted an army helmet in a barn on a farm near his home in Froxfield, England. He went back to the farm several years later and found the helmet sitting on a shelf. He held on to the helmet, and several years ago began to look into its history. The chinstrap of the helmet had a name and serial number which were still legible. The helmet belonged to Pfc. Harold D. Webb of Amelia, a member of U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division. Lois Brown Dale remembered

The Aug. 27 memorial for Clermont Senior Services Founder Lois Brown Dale evolved into a “homecoming” for family members, friends, former employees, political officials and others whose lives Dale touched. Dale died Aug. 16 at the age of 91. More than 250 gathered at the Adult Day Service Center, formerly the LBD Friendship Center, to share memories and exchange “Lois’ life lessons.” FULL STORY, A2

Goshen’s park board could have two new members by the end of the month. The township trustees are interviewing candidates for seats left vacant by Marcia Huff and Robert Harbour. Both Huff and Harbour are leaving the board because they no longer live in the township, said board member Bill Schmidbauer. “Marcia’s last meeting is Sept. 13 and she has to resign by Oct. 3,” Schmidbauer said. “Robert works in Los Angeles and has a resiTrustees Jack dence here, but having him Kuntz, Mike teleconference Keeley and in became too ifficult. Development Director Lou Ethridge said several people applied for the positions, but only four will be interviewed. “There is no surprise as to the number of people interested in being considered for the position of park district board member,” he said. “It’s an important leadership role that can truly shape the future of the Goshen community.” Trustees Jack Kuntz, Mike Keeley and T.J. Corcoran will interview the candidates and ultimately decide who the new board members will be. “We put ourselves at the disposal of the trustees for any help they wanted, but they decided to do it on their own because they didn’t want to appear as though they were influenced in any way,” Schmidbauer said. Corcoran said he was looking for someone who would work well with the three remaining park board members. “I want someone who is committed to Goshen and someone who brings something unique to the table,” he said. “They need to have some kind of skill or insight that complements the other members of the board and will work with them as a team to reach a common goal.” Corcoran also said he did not know when the trustees will make a final decision.

Safety fair remembers Robinsons By Mary Dannemiller mdannemiller@communitypress.com

Almost a year after Wes and Doris Robinson were killed by a drunk driver on Ohio 28 in front of the Goshen Kroger, their family members gathered in the same spot to educate people on the dangers of drunk driving.

The Goshen Township Police Department and the Goshen Township Fire & EMS Department were there Saturday, Aug. 29, demonstrating the effects of drunk driving. Hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks were sold to raise money for the Goshen Local School District. “We want to raise awareness,

especially among young people about drinking and driving,” said Bev Pennington, the Robinsons’ daughter. “It’s a tragedy that never should have happened.” George Glecker, who was driving the car that struck the Robinson’s vehicle, is serving a 14-year sentence for aggravated vehicular homicide.
