Default delays subdivision

Road work to be finished with bond By Lisa J. Mauch lmauch@communitypress.com

CLERMONT COUNTY — The Clermont County Engineers Office is waiting on an insurance claim before turning over the street maintenance of Springfields subdivision to Union Township. The development is on Old Ohio 74 and was developed by Davis Road Partners - Old 74 LLC, said Craig Risner, deputy surveyor for Clermont County. The county commissioners recently adopted a resolution certifying Davis Road Partners defaulted on a $10,000 insurance bond and a $700 cash bond by failing to perform the completion, construction, repair and maintenance of Daisy Court and Springfield Court and the sidewalks. The county requires developers to turn in bonds before they are allowed to start construction as a form of security, said Risner. “If a developer goes bankrupt, the county can use the

money in the bond and hire somebody to finish the project,” said Risner. Brian Zawacki of Davis Road Partners declined to comment on the reasons for the defaults. The county already has received the $700 from the cash bond for the sidewalks. The claim for the $10,000 insurance bond has been submitted to Bond Safeguard Insurance Company, said Risner. “We’re waiting to hear back. At that point we would decide if we would use our crews to finish the project or hire someone to do it,” said Risner. He said it’s mostly curb and storm features, like catch basins and underground pipes, needing completion before being certified by the county. Until then, the streets can’t be turned over to Union Township for snow removal or general road maintenance, said Risner. Risner said once the insurance money is received and the streets certified, members of the county engineers office will meet with the township officials to let them know what work was done before turning it over.

WILLIAMSBURG — Clermont Northeastern High School Principal Matt Earley was named the new superintendent of the Williamsburg Local School District May 16. Earley will replace Superintendent Jeff Weir, who is leaving July 31 to become the superintendent of the Clermont County Educational Service Center. Before becoming principal at CNE three years ago, Earley was principal at Williamsburg High School for six years. “It was very much the board’s desire to bring Matt back to Williamsburg. Matt was held in high regard for the work

he did here and his service to the high school,” said Weir about Earley. Last year, the CNE school board announced Earley would replace former CNE Superintendent Neil Leist. He was scheduled to start Aug. 1. Earley said sometimes in life timing is everything and he couldn’t control the timing of the Williamsburg job becoming available. “I’m a part of that community as a parent and a resident, so there would only be one place I would leave CNE for and that would be going back to Williamsburg, back to where I came from,” said Earley. “It’s a great community with great students and parents and I’m looking forward to working

with all these students, teachers, parents and community members to continue to deliver great education at Williamsburg,” he said. Earley said he submitted his resignation to the CNE board Friday, May 17, and anticipates it being accepted at the Monday, May 21, school board meeting. He said John Eckert, the principal at Lockland high and middle schools for the past four years, would take his place as CNE principal. Earley said Eckert also spent more than a decade as a teacher, coach and administrator in the Batavia Local School District. Wayne Johnson has been serving as the CNE interim superintendent. He is scheduled leave that role July 31. The position for the CNE superintendent has been posted, said Mike Freeman, school board member.
