Glen Este High School will close, and next school year, its students and those from Amelia High School will attend the new West Clermont High School.

All former Milford fire chief John Cooper Sr. ever wanted to be was a firefighter. That’s what Cooper – who died unexpectedly April 14 at the age of 68 – told the Community Press in an Chief Cooper interview when he retired at the end of 2015. Cooper made that dream come true in his more than 50 years with what became the Milford Community Fire Department, where he rose in the ranks from a cadet to a 38-year run as chief. During Cooper’s tenure as chief, the fire department grew into a full-service, fire and emergency medical services provider that now has 14 fulltime, 20 part-time and five volunteer members. Cooper oversaw construction of the current fire station at 687 U.S. 50 in 1984 and a large addition in 1999, which brought fire and EMS personnel under one roof. See CHIEF, Page 2A
