NEWPORT - Four new companies will join Newport’s business roster by this fall.

The Newport Shopping Center and Plaza, located at Monmouth Street and Carothers Road, welcomes Newport Tires, Crunch Fitness, A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts and Urban Nails.

Newport Tires is set to open at a former 4,460-square-foot car wash site in the plaza later this month.

Crunch Fitness, which has more than 145 locations across the U.S. started in New York City’s East village in 1989. The personal fitness gym will be leasing 30,521 square feet of space at the complex.

New Jersey-based A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts will open within the next two months. The Newport location, which will occupy 18,482 square feet at 82D Carothers Road, will be the company’s second store in the Greater Cincinnati area. The other store is located in Pleasant Ridge. A.C. Moore is an American arts and crafts retail chain with 141 locations in the Eastern U.S. Urban Nails, a national salon chain, will fill 4,982 square feet next to Family Dollar.

government to help finance construction of major projects. Typically, the project is exempt from paying local property taxes for the duration of the bond issue.

Through agreements reached by the board, the city and the developers, the schools will be paid $225,000 a year for 30 years – the length of the bond issues.

The new revenue also means the school system will avoid the loss of $250,000 in annual funding from the state of Kentucky, which equals $7.5 million over the life of the bonds.

“It’s great that the city and school board were able to partner and come to an agreement that is beneficial for everyone,” Newport School Board member Matt Scott said. “We’ve experienced declining enrollment due to other projects in the city, which decreases our state funding. The revenue that will be generated from these projects will help us to continue funding programs for our students without risking the financial wellness of our school district.”

Newport schools and city have long had a strong working relationship. Past partnerships between the city and the school district have generated more than $200 million in development over the past eight years.

The 230-foot tall Newport SkyWheel, being developed by Koch Development of St. Louis, will be mounted on a pier extending toward the Ohio River between the Newport Aquarium and Mitchell’s Fish Market restaurant on the plaza at Newport on the Levee.

Work could begin on the project later this year with a scheduled opening in 2019.

“The USO allowed me to call home and talk with my wife, our daughter and our newborn baby son,” said retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Phil Tilly, who served during Desert Shield and Desert Storm with First Cavalry Division.

“Our son, now a grown man who previously served with the 10th Mountain Division, called home from Jalabad, Afghanistan, through a USO phone bank to talk with his mother and me,” added Tilly, of Loveland.

On Labor Day weekend, the USO in Cincinnati will provide a chance to watch the annual fireworks as well as honor health providers who care for our nation's wounded soldiers.

The 15th annual USO Tribute Cincinnati takes place beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at The Montgomery Inn Boathouse.

The event will honor staff members from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, who have rehabilitated wounded soldiers from combat operations overseas.

Honorees include: ❚ Annemarie E. Orr, occupational therapist in Amputee Service at Walter Reed. ❚ Laura Friedman, physical therapist for the Department of Defense Osseointegration Program at Walter Reed. ❚ Peter P. Anderson, prosthetist certified by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics Inc. at Walter Reed. ❚ Robert Bahr, physical therapist, retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel at Walter Reed. He served in the Army from February 1979 to September 2013. ❚ Steve Springer, nursing coordinator for Amputee Service at Walter Reed, retired from the U.S. Army.

His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Expert Field Medical Badge and the Ranger Badge.

Hospital officials said the new hospital will expand efforts for prevention, genetic screening, precision medicine, clinical research and treatment options. St. Elizabethhas partnered with the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer

Center to improve care in Northern Kentucky.

For over 77 years, the USO has been the nation’s leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform.

Here in the Tristate, the USO runs two welcome centers at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

The Sept. 2 event begins with a cocktail reception at 4 p.m. and program at 5:30 p.m. honoring guests with host Anthony Munoz. Dinner follows at 7:30 p.m. Military leaders will speak, and the USO Show Troupe will give a performance. WEBN/Western Southern Fireworks finish the evening. Northern Kentucky’s deadline to file as a candidate for most mayor, city council and school board seats has passed. Save for write-in candidates, communities can see who they can vote for on Election Day on Nov. 6.

1.There were no challengers for mayor in most cities. Who the next mayor will be in 20 Northern Kentucky cities was settled at Tuesday’s filing deadline, with the exception of possible write-in challengers.

Cities with only one mayor candidate were: ❚ the Boone County cities of Union and Walton, ❚ the Campbell County cities of California, Cold Spring, Crestview, Fort Thomas, Mentor, Silver Grove, Southgate and Woodlawn, ❚ and the Kenton County cities of Bromley, Crescent Springs, Crestview Hills, Edgewood, Fairview, Fort Wright, Kenton Vale, Lakeside Park, Park Hills and Ryland Heights.

2. Mayor races are contested in 14 other Northern Kentucky cities. The mayor’s job will be on the ballot for all cities in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties except for Covington and Newport. Contested mayoral races are in Florence in Boone County; the Campbell cities of Alexandria, Bellevue, Dayton, Highland Heights, Melbourne and Wilder; and the Kenton cities of Elsmere, Erlanger, Independence, Ludlow, Taylor Mill and Villa Hills.

3. Tensions surrounding Taylor Mill City Commission meetings are likely to not get any easier because of who wants to be mayor.

Embattled Taylor Mill Commissioner Sarah W. Frietch will be on the ballot to challenge longtime Mayor Daniel L. Bell.

Chief of Police Steve Knauf leveled claims at Frietch that she created a “toxic” workplace this spring. Commissioners voted to remove Frietch as the commission police liaison in May. Jill Bailey, the city’s administrator for 21 years, resigned in protest in May as well, citing commissioner “infighting.”

Bailey took a job as Fort Wright’s city administrator.

4.Most NKY county school district Board of Education seats on the ballot went uncontested.

At Campbell County Schools, there will be no ballot competition for the three seats on the ballot in November.

The school board has five elected members. Board chairwoman Janis Winbigler of Wilder, District 4 newcomer candidate Peggy Schultz of Alexandria, and District 5 board member Rich Mason of California are the only candidates on the ballot.

For Boone County Schools, Division 5 Board of Education incumbent Karen Byrd is the only candidate for the seat.

There is competition for the Division 4 seat between Julia D. Pile and Carson Castleman. Bonnie Rickert, the current member, did not file for another term.

In Kenton County Schools, 3rd District incumbent board member Jesica P. Jehn of Taylor Mill will face no opposition.

There is competition for the 4th District seat between incumbent Josh Crabtree of Fort Wright and challenger Shannon Kwozalla Herold of Covington.

5. Park Hills Mayor Matt Mattone announced he will not seek a second term hours before the fiiling deadline.

The victorious 2014 write-in mayoral candidate said he will file as a City Council candidate instead.

Councilwoman Kathy Zembrodt will be the only candidate for mayor on the ballot.

Blueberry season means pie, of course Rita’s Kitchen Rita Heikenfeld

Peak blueberry season is in July with some carryover into August. I guess that’s why I’m getting requests for blueberry pie recipes. A Kentucky reader has “a couple pounds” frozen. She wanted a blueberry streusel pie.

An eastside reader wanted to augment canned blueberry pie filling with fresh blueberries.

To top that, reader Lois Boekley sent in a wonderful recipe for blueberry sauce. She uses it to top pancakes.

(If you want Lois’ pancake recipe, check my site). So I guess my work here this week is pretty clear, and it’s “berry good”.

Tip for freezing blueberries: Pour them, unwashed, in single layer onto cookie sheet, freeze hard uncovered, and store in containers.

That way they’ll stay separate. To use, place in colander and run cool water quickly over them to clean. They may thaw a little, but won’t get mushy.

No need to thaw frozen blueberries before using.

Blueberries sometimes cook up nice and thick and sometimes are juicier in pies.

As usual, Lois give specific details for excellent results.

Ingredients for filling

2 cups fresh blueberries OR 10 ½ ounces frozen blueberries

3/4 cup sugar

To make blueberry shortcake, combine some fresh blueberries with enough blueberry sauce to coat generously. Spoon over shortcake biscuits and top with whipped cream.

Put 2 cans blueberry pie filling in a bowl. Stir in a heaping cup of fresh or frozen blueberries. Mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons lemon juice and stir this into filling. Follow above instructions for streusel and baking.

Viewpoints Flowerbuds for preschoolers starting in September Extension Education Kate Thompson Community Recorder

The Campbell County Extension Service will be offering a monthly series, Flowerbuds, for preschoolers (aged 3-5) and their caregiver. This will be a collaboration between the Family and Consumer Sciences and Horticulture Departments.

Beginning in September, Flowerbuds will meet for story time, tours of the educational gardens, an engaging activity

for the child and caregiver to make together, and a light healthy snack.

In previous years of Flowerbuds, end of the series written evaluations showed that 100 percent of the caregivers said the series helped them bond with their child. 86 percent said they learned new ideas on ways to interact with their child, and 86 percent learned ways that their family could be healthier. 100 percent said their child’s knowledge about gardening increased, and 66 percent noticed growth in their child’s development.

Nine-month follow-up written evalu-

ations showed that because of Flowerbuds, 100 percent of the participants were making healthier snacks for their child, and 100 percent were gardening with their child.

Some of the comments from the caregivers about the program were the following: 1) “It was a special time together, and we shared and talked about these experiences after class.” 2) “My son has been helping me make meals more.” 3) “We have started gardening together, which I never thought we would do.” 4) “I enjoyed learning about different recipes and ways to make healthy choices. 5)

“My daughter has made new friends.”

The new Flowerbuds 2018-2019 series will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. on the following dates: Sept. 6, Oct. 16, Nov. 13, Dec. 14, Jan. 3, Feb. 7, March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6, July 3, and Aug. 1. If you see bugs in kitchen, they could be pantry pests Extension Education Don Sorrell Community Recorder

At the Campbell County Extension Office, we see a good number of insects each year for identification and control measures.

These insects usually range from termites in the early spring, landscape and home garden insects during the summer but one of the most common insect’s pests that I see are what we call stored product or pantry pests.

These pests usually include several beetles and moths that can infest whole grains or processed foods. Usually, the first sign of a problem is the appearance of small beetles crawling over counter tops, moths flying across

rooms, or caterpillars crawling up walls. The solution requires finding and destroying all infested products in which these pests have developed, a cleanup, and use of sealed storage containers to prevent problems.

Some stored product pests feed inside whole kernels/grains like the granary weevil, rice weevil, and the Angoumois grain moth.

A much larger number of insects feed on processed grains or broken kernels, or a variety of spices. Common pests include the red and confused flour beetles, saw-toothed grain beetles, drugstore beetle, and Indian meal moth.

Processed foods that these insects will feed upon include wheat flour, corn meal, dried fruits, dog food and meats, breakfast cereal, candy bars, bird seed

and a variety of other products. The immature or larval stages of these insects occur only in infested products and usually are not seen.

While adults are the signs of an infestation, merely killing them is not the solution. Infested articles (usually food) must be destroyed. Identification of the pest can provide clues on where to look but some of these insects can live on a wide range of materials.

In general, the greater the number of insects seen, the older the infestation.

Often the initial source is partially used boxes or bags of products that have been forgotten in the backs of pantries and shelves.

The infestation spreads as the active adult’s search for new food sources. If they are not found in pantries, then ook

at decorative items or bird seed.

Disposal of infested materials is the best way to eliminate the problem. Also check all items in pantries or on shelves.

Often beetles can be found beneath cans and other items. Thoroughly vacuum the shelves, both upper and lower surfaces. It is better to do a very thorough job one time than to have to repeat a hasty inspection and cleanup.

Place product into jars or other containers that can be sealed tightly. Decorative items such as Indian corn, dried flower arrangements, or bird feed may be treated with heat (155-degree F for about 20 minutes with the oven door propped open) or in a non-self-defrosting freezer at 0-degree F for four days.

NEWPORT – When he was a student at Newport Catholic High School, Dave Cowens said no one was allowed to wear any shoes but gym shoes on the gymnasium floor.

More than 50 years later, the school has added “Central” to its name, girls to its roster, and now with the help of Cowens, a new gym floor to replace the one that he learned the game on.

NCC debuted its new floor Aug. 20 to its current students. The floor has a parquet design like the famed Boston Garden, home of the NBA Celtics.

Cowens, of course, made a name for himself in the Garden, earning NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1970-71, MVP honors in 1972-73 and seven-time all-star status. He is a Basketball Hall of Famer.

Cowens, making a rare trip back to the area, told the crowd some stories about his days at NewCath and the NBA, and asked everybody to take care of the floor.

“Jack and Ruth Cowens, like many other parents, dedicated hard earned, limited resources to providing their children with a good, Catholic education,” he said in his speech. “Gary, Tom, Jerry and I went to Newport Catholic, sister Susan attended Our Lady of Providence Academy and oldest brother Wayne excelled at Covington Latin School. This gift is in honor of the sacrifices our parents made for us.”

In a later interview, Cowens said he enjoyed his homecoming to the top of the hill.

“You remember walking up to the place, driving around,” he said. “It gets your mind going. It was a different place, an all-boys school with 800 kids.

It was very competitive scholastically and athletically. We’re proud of our school.”

The new surface was installed this summer in a "Boston Square" pattern to tribute Cowens. It replaces the original from 1954 when the school was first constructed. The surface is not only used for sporting events like volleyball and

The Bluebird boys are striving to reach it.

Highlands’ girls have won five of the last Kentucky Class AA state championships. The Bluebird boys got close last year, finishing fourth in the state.

“The boys are hoping to improve on their finish,” coach Brian Alessandro said. “The girls have won the (Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference) meet all but once in the last six years, so we look forward to striving for that title, also.”

In addition to the floor, NewCath upgraded the lighting in the gymnasium and also added decorative murals on the walls and ceiling, including one that specifically honors Cowens.

Ron Dawn, former head basketball coach and current athletic director, said the bleachers in the gym will be next on the renovation list.

“It’s great for us. It's great for the school,” Dawn said. “We needed it. It got to the point where we couldn’t even sand it down anymore, it was so thin.

(The new floor) turned out great. It’s an NBA floor; there’s padding under there. I can’t wait to see the kids play on it.”

Thomas More welcomes largest class in school’s history Thomas More College welcomed the largest class ever in the history of the school, Aug. 20 with 563 incoming students for the 2018-2019 school year – a 34 percent increase above the 2017 incoming class.

Thomas More has seen unprecedented enrollment growth in recent years, growing from 837 full-time, traditional students in the fall of 2013 to more than 1,300 at the start of this academic school year. The overall headcount, which includes graduate, dual credit and adult students is more than 2,200.

Crescent Springs ceremony honors Vietnam vets More than 30 Vietnam Veterans were honored in a ceremony at the Crescent Springs Park in Crescent Springs.

Kathy Payne, representing the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented each Veteran with a packet containing literature, decals, buttons and an official “Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin” issued by the Department of Defense.

The Rebecca Bryan Boone Chapter of Kenton County DAR is a Commemorative Partner with the Department of Defense in honoring, paying tribute to, and thanking Vietnam Veterans.

Kathy Payne told the veterans, “Our generation of veterans were the only ones never thanked for their service when they came home. In fact, many were ridiculed, made fun of, and called names. We aim to correct that wrong today. It is long overdue.”

The group of Vietnam Veterans included several career Veterans, a female Veteran -Connie Smoot - from the USAF, a young woman who was there to receive the Vietnam Veteran Pin posthumously on behalf of her father who served several tours of duty in Vietnam, and a host of other Vietnam Veterans representing all branches of the military.

The picnic was organized by Tom Pate, a Vietnam Veteran himself who was intent on honoring other Vietnam Vets from the Northern Kentucky area.

NKU center continues STEM teacher training with grant from Duke Energy Foundation Northern Kentucky University’s Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics continues its Next Generation STEM Classroom Project 2.0 with a $200,000 a cumulative investment from the Duke Energy Foundation. The grant has supported educating middle school teachers over the past three years through the NextGen STEM Project. STEM focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

As part of this project, 24 NextGen STEM Fellows from across northern Kentucky are attending CINSAM’s Summer Institute to develop teacher leaders in STEM. The institute, led by CINSAM’s master teachers Ella Bowling and Amber Carter, was first developed last year as part of CINSAM’s year-round NextGen STEM Project.

“Duke Energy is pleased to continue to support programs, like the Summer Institute, that enhance our local schools by training teachers to educate other teachers on STEM,” said Kim Vogelgesang, Duke Energy Foundation.

The NextGen STEM Project model’s best practices for teachers from school districts throughout Kentucky. The program involves teaching a STEM lesson to a class of students with teachers from multiple grade levels observing around the room.

“After this ‘Fishbowl’ class, the teachers meet with our CINSAM staff for a recap breakdown of the lesson to reflect on their observations and explore ways to apply lessons learned to their own teaching,” said Madhura Kulkarni, CINSAM director.

The teachers who attended last year’s Summer Institute are returning to mentor the current fellows, and graduates of the NextGen program serve STEM ambassadors in their local districts. Danielle Zink, a fourth-grade

About the Next Generation STEM Classroom Project 2.0/ CINSAM: The NextGen STEM Project was piloted in Boone and Kenton Counties during the 2012-13 school year and scaled up initially through a grant from the Toyota USA Foundation. The program was expanded at the middle school level through further investments from the Duke Energy Foundation and the Toyota USA Foundation. The NextGen

STEM Project now serves 20 districts in Northern Kentucky impacting nearly 1,000 in-service teachers, 200 pre-service teachers and reaches more than 30,000 students.

CINSAM was established in 2000 by Kentucky’s Council on Postsecondary Education as NKU’s Program of Distinction. Its mission is to promote enthusiasm, excellence, and equity in education at pre-school through undergraduate levels by advancing and integrating teaching, learning, and scholarship in the STEM disciplines.

“The benefit from the fellow’s program is having the opportunity to learn from other teachers. It’s a struggle for educators to write the lesson plans and design the experiments,” said Zink.

“CINSAM has STEM experiment kits that teachers can borrow. In each kit, you have all the equipment and supplies needed for the learning activity, and you get the lesson plans that are designed to fit state standards. Removing one hurdle is a huge step in getting teachers to embrace STEM activities in the classroom.”

Weather Normalization Adjustment Rider – Rider WNA

Proposed Rate APPLICABILITY Applicable to all customers receiving service under Rate RS, Residential Service, and Rate GS, General Service.

DETERMINATION OF WNA The distribution charge per Ccf for gas service as set forth in Rates RS and GS shall be adjusted by an amount herein under described as the Weather Normalization Adjustment (WNA).

The WNA shall apply to all Rate RS and Rate GS bills during the November through April billing periods. The WNA shall increase or decrease accordingly by month. The WNA will not be billed during the billing periods of May through October. Customer base loads and heating sensitivity factors will be determined by rate class and adopted from the most recent order of the Kentucky Public Service Commission (KYPSC) approving such factors to be used in the application of this Rider.

The WNA shall be computed by rate class using the following formula: (HSFi * (NDD - ADD)) W N A i = Ri * (BLi + (HSFi * ADD) Where: i = A rate schedule or billing classification within a rate schedule.

WNAi = Weather Normalization Adjustment Factor for the ith rate schedule or classification expressed as a rate per Ccf. Ri = Weighted average rate (distribution charge) of temperature sensitive sales for the ith schedule or classification.

HSFi = Heat sensitivity factor for ith rate schedule or classification.

NDD = Normal billing cycle heating degree days (based upon Company’s 30-year normal period adopted from the most recent order of the KYPSC approving such normal for use in the application of this Rider.

ADD = Actual billing cycle heating degree days.

BLi = Base load for the ith rate schedule or classification.

Charge for Reconnection of Service Present Rate The Company may charge and collect in advance the following: A. The reconnection charge for service which has been disconnected due to enforcement of Rule 3 shall be twenty-five dollars ($25.00).

B. The reconnection charge for service which has been disconnected within the preceding twelve months at the request of the customer shall be twenty-five dollars ($25.00) C. If service is disconnected because of fraudulent use thereof, the Company may charge and collect in addition to the reconnection charge of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) the expense incurred by the Company by reason of such fraudulent use, plus an estimated bill for gas used, prior to the reconnection of service.

D. If both the gas and electric service are reconnected at one time, the total charge shall not exceed thirty-eight dollars ($38.00).

Proposed Rate The Company may charge and collect in advance the following: A. The reconnection charge for service which has been disconnected due to enforcement of Rule 3 shall be seventy-five dollars ($75.00).

B. The reconnection charge for service which has been disconnected within the preceding twelve months at the request of the customer shall be seventy-five dollars ($75.00).

C. If service is disconnected because of fraudulent use thereof, the Company may charge and collect in addition to the reconnection charge of seventy-five dollars ($75.00) the expense incurred by the Company by reason of such fraudulent use, plus as estimated bill for gas used, prior to the reconnection of service.

D. If both the gas and electric services are reconnected at the premise at one time, the total charge is available on Company’s Electric Tariff Sheet No. 91, Charge for Reconnection of Service.

The volume will vary at different meter installations, and will thus be communicated to the customer at the time of installation. Pressure and temperature correcting factors may need to be applied by the customer. The customer is responsible for providing power and communication links to the meter pulse equipment per the Company’s specifications. Customer must provide either a regulated 24 volts DC, or 120 volts AC electric supply, to an area 2’ x 2’, approximately 20’ away from any gas pipeline flanges or gas pressure relief devices.

Installation of meter pulse equipment: If replacement of Meter Index is necessary, additional charge of:

Proposed Rate 6. USE OF SERVICE: Service is supplied directly to Customer through Company’s own meter and is to be used by Customer only for the purposes specified in and in accordance with the provisions of the Service Agreement and applicable Rate Schedule.

Service is for Customer’s use only and under no circumstances may Customer or Customer’s agent or any other individual, association or corporation install meters for the purpose of reselling service supplied Customer to any other individual, association, or corporation on Customer’s premises or for use on any other premises. This does not preclude Customer from allocating Company’s billing to Customer to any other individual, association, or corporation provided the sum of such allocations does not exceed Company’s billing.

Service Regulations Section V – Metering Present Rate Each month the Company will monitor the usage of each customer according to the following procedure: 1.The customer’s monthly usage is monitored through a “hi-lo” review process. An estimating factor is utilized to provide an expected level of usage. The estimating factor considers the customer’s past usage and current variables, such as weather.

2.The actual usage is compared to an estimate based on the previous month’s usage, an estimate based on the usage from the same month, one year previous, and an estimate based on the usage from the same month, two years previous.

Proposed Rate Each month the Company will monitor the usage of each customer according to the following procedure: 1. The customer’s monthly usage is monitored through a “hi-lo” review process that will incorporate customer past usage and other related information to provide an expected level of usage.

Service Regulations Section VI – Billing and Payment Present Rate The following text is removed from the tariff sheet, “If bills are rendered electronically then a charge not to exceed $0.25 per usage may be assessed.”

Proposed Rate The following description of the budget bill plan is added to the tariff sheet.

Budget Billing Plan Description: Annual Plan: The Annual Plan provides 11 months of equal payments by using 12 months of customer’s usage, dividing the usage by 11, and using the result to calculate the bill.

Month 12 is a settle-up month between the billed amounts and customer bills based on actual usage.

A bill message is sent after 6 months with a suggested new bill amount if the budget bill amounts compared to the actual bill amounts exceeds a Company set threshold; however, Customer must contact Company to change the amount.

The budget bill amount is changed as needed after the 12 month review.

Quarterly Plan: The Quarterly Plan provides 3 months of equal payments starting by using 12 months of customer’s usage, dividing the usage by 12, and using the result to calculate the bill.

However, to prevent a settle-up month, reviews occur after 3, 6, 9, and 12 months on the plan and continue every 3 months thereafter.

The budget bill amount is changed as needed after each review. The change is automatic and the customer does not need to contact Company.

A bill message is sent after each review with a new bill amount if the budget bill amounts compared to the actual bill amounts exceeds a Company set threshold.

Full Requirements Aggregation Service - Rate FRAS Present Rate UPSTREAM CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS Suppliers participating in the Company’s firm transportation program must secure their own upstream pipeline capacity required to meet Supplier’s Rate FT-L pool peak day requirements. Due to the physical configuration of the Company’s system, and certain upstream interstate pipeline facilities, and to enable the Company to comply with lawful interstate pipeline tariffs and/or to maintain the Company’s system integrity, during the months of December, January, and February, the Company reserves the right to direct Supplier to proportionally deliver, with respect to the Systems’ (the Duke Energy Ohio and Duke Energy Kentucky, Inc. integrated operating system) northern and southern interstate pipeline interconnects, the Supplier’s daily pool requirements. In those instances where the pool operator delivers gas into the Duke Energy Ohio pipeline system and Duke Energy Ohio then delivers said gas to Duke Energy Kentucky, Inc. for delivery to the pool operator’s customers located in Kentucky, the pool operator shall pay Duke Energy Kentucky, Inc. for charges from Duke Energy Ohio for delivery of said gas, at the FERC approved rate.

OPERATIONAL FLOW ORDERS: Over-deliveries (1) Over-deliveries by Supplier will be confiscated by the Company and used for its general supply requirements, without compensation to Supplier, Proposed Rate DEFINITIONS: “Under-Deliveries” or “Negative Imbalance Volume” is the amount by which the sum of all volumes actually delivered to the Pool customers during the period exceeds the sum of the volumes made available by supplier for redelivery by the Company to the Pool during the same period.

Any references on individual tariffs were deleted.

Pooling Service for Interruptible Gas Transportation - Rate AS Proposed Rate The name of this rate is proposed as Rate AS - Aggregation Service for Interruptible Gas Transportation.

Gas Trading Service - Rate GTS Present Rate Daily imbalance trades or transfers must be made within four (4) business days from the date that the trade or transfer applies. Monthly imbalance trades or transfers must be completed within four (4) business days following the end of the month.

Proposed Rate Daily imbalance trades or transfers must be completed within two (2) business days from the date that the trade or transfer applies. Monthly imbalance trades or transfers must be completed within two (2) business days following the end of the month.
