LIDO CIVIC CLUB PAST PRESIDENTS NIGHT - 2013 On November 28, 2013, the Lido Civic Club celebrated its 84th anniversary at its annual Past Presidents’ night. This annual black tie event was held at The Capital Hilton in Washington, DC. This year the Club honored Anthony J. Cancellosi, CEO of Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind as the Lido Civic Club “Man of the Year”. The Ministro Plenipotenziaro at the Italian Embassy in Washington, DC, Cristiano Maggipinto received a Distinguished Community Service Award. Lido Club 50 year members, Pino Cicala and Joe Froio (posthumously) were presented Lido lions. Joe Froio passed away in April and Don Ricciardella accepted his award. The Honorees Anthony J. ( Tony) Cancelosi, K.M. was appointed president and CEO of Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind in September, 2005. Tony is a business school graduate of St Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and also completed the Executive Finance Program at the Wharton School of Business. Under his leadership, the organization was focused on priorities that better serve the needs of the residents of the greater Washington, DC area who are blind or visually impaired. He has forged alliances with other local and national blindness and disability organizations and cultivated new sources of private and government funding. He has also reduced administrative expenses and increased the level of fiscal accountability to the organization Tony developed new membership of the Columbia Lighthouse’s Governing Board and developed a 30 member Advisory Board which helped raise funds for a Mobile Vision Care unit. Mr. Cancelosi has extensive business experience. Prior to joining the non-profit organization, he was President of ICI an international software company and CEO of several for- profit companies: iBritte, Inc, eStara and Source Digital. He also served as COO of Kee Systems which is now Sylvan Learning. Tony serves on numerous Boards of Directors, including DC Police Foundation, Providence Health Foundation, and VISTA Technology Services, Inc. He is president emeritus of the Association for Corporate Growth. His memberships include the Wharton Club, the Potomac Officers Club, and the Rotary Club. Mr. Cancelosi recently became a Knight of Malta. In 2010, Tony wrote a book “Santa’s Secret” and all book proceeds benefit the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind. Continued on page 3
