“Media Literacy is more than simply acquiring means of understanding and creating content for media. Media literacy is strongly connected matters of personal growth, creativity, critical thinking, being literate, and part of society and culture. “ (Media Literacy for Children 2015, 5) I’mthinking…I’mwondering… Inotice…Ihear… Iknowthat… Iunderstand… Estoy pensando...Mepregunto... Literacy now includes all forms of reading, writing, listening, creating, viewing, handling, and more. Thinking
as
educator: we
FEAR
technology because WE
skills, patience, or
so we consciously leave it out of our teaching. We must be
to first or alongside our students “develop the skills, attitudes, and aptitudes”. The Digital Literacy Framework is an essential tool to support the implementation and development of digital and civic literacy skills. I think I would keep this posted close by 

We can do all of the above if we intentionally teach technology as we provide opportunities for digital literacies across the disciplines.

 Sometimes, technology is either done in isolation or is a part of a discipline but with the expectation that students already know how to use and understand- but sometimes they don’t. This limits engagement and interferes with the attempt to integrate technology. This limits access.

ACCESS

Some more thoughts:

Central Goal- Build on Interest and Strengths

- Build on the use of technology

- Build on the interest in the use and understanding of social media, searching/researching, video gaming, academic learning sites, even online shopping, etc.

Central Goal- Deepen understanding

• Support the understanding of the purpose of technology

• Support the understanding that social media can be used for more (networking, marketing, etc.)

• Support digital citizenship and impact
