BLACK MARROW by Erna Omarsdottir (Iceland) and Damien Jalet (Belgium) In a place were civilization has not quite arrived, or has ceased to exist long ago, Black Marrow explores extremes and opposite states, looking for the more undefined aspects of human identity.

Introducing two of Europe’s new generation of highly physical and visceral choreographers, Black Marrow is a highly anticipated new work commissioned by Melbourne’s own internationally acclaimed dance company, Chunky Move. “Unlike anything else this country is currently producing, and proof that Chunky Move is miles ahead of any other major dance company in Australia.” The Sunday Age (Mortal Engine)

Chunky Move – The Next Move
Reminiscent of an old silent film in its movement, style and execution, this bizarre and beautiful work reveals Michelle Heaven in an unforgettable ‘pea de deux’ with Brian Lucas (both of whom performed in Chunky Move’s New York Bessie winning Tense Dave).
Founded by Artistic Director Gideon Obarzanek in 1995, Chunky Move has earned an enviable reputation for producing a distinct yet unpredictable brand of genre-defying dance performance. disagreeable object is this year’s production for The Next Move, a series of performances created by the next generation of Australian dance makers and presented by Chunky Move. The Next Move is designed to bridge the divide between young choreographers making small independent work and more established choreographers running their own organisations.
disagreeable object was first presented at the Arts House, Meat Market in June 2008 with the support of Arts Victoria, Besen Foundation, Ausdance, Moriarty’s Project, Arts House, City of Melbourne and the initial development funding by the Australia Council for the Arts. The presentation of disagreeable object by Chunky Move is a redevelopment of this original work.
