Coming into one of the last games of the season with a 3-5 streak, the JV boys were determined to win the upcoming basketball game against Standley Lake. Freshman Parker VanDuyn was racking his brain with ways to play at his highest.
“I really want to focus on defense today. We know they’re going to run a zone and break it, so we need to have a strong defense,” VanDuyn said.
In preparation for the game JV made it their priority to give it their all during practice.
“We had a really good practice yesterday. We worked a lot of defense and a new offense to really focus on this game,” VanDuyn said.
VanDuyn has been playing basketball for two years now, and those experiences have taught him to always be hopeful no matter the situation.
“I’ll just go play my hardest. Hopefully we’ll just get lots of shots and play good defense. think that we will play very well tonight,” VanDuyn said.
The boys played hard and gave it their all, but despite their best efforts they lost to Standley Lake 23-32. Van Duyn decided that even though they lost, he could use this game to help improve not only himself but also his team.
“We could have done better overall and made more shots, but the team definitely benefited from just struggling. It gives us more motivation in practice and makes us want to work harder because these teams know what we can be. I’m excited to see how we will improve for next year,” VanDuyn said.
