NOW MORE THAN EVER journalism matters

LOOKING DOWN THE MALL While on a school trip in Washington D.C., members of

various media programs got to sightsee and tour as much of D.C. as they could during their time there. The group of students went to D.C. for the National Journalism Conference and took part in several different competitions and won a number of awards. Maya Dawson, freshman, took second in Commentary Writing, Carson Kennedy, junior, took Honorable Mention in Literary Magazine Photography, and Graciela Fischer, sophomore, took Honorable Mention in Sports Writing. photo by s. smith

LIVING THE HIGH LIFE After taking the minute long elevator ride to

the top of the 555 foot tall Washington Monument, sophomore Graciela Fischer, freshman Samuel Liffengren, and junior Samantha Smith look out one of the eight windows that overlook much of D.C.. Throughout the trip, the group of students referred to the Monument as a ‘pencil’ or a ‘toothpick’ and were finally able to go to the top of it on the last day of their trip. photo courtesy of l. thompson

CAPITOL MOMENTS After finishing their tour of the Capitol, some of

BEANIE BROS After making their way around Dupont Circle,

sophomore Zoe Watts, junior Carson Kennedy, sophomore Graciela Fischer, senior Riley Patton, and freshman Samuel Liffengren, show off their newly purchased beanies. The group went to Proper Topper and decided to buy some beanies. “We were at Krispy Kreme and realized that we wanted beanies, so naturally I looked up where we could get beanies, and we went,” Kennedy said. photo by s. smith
