Reports

If students are displaying poor behaviours, they may be put on a report for monitoring. They should get this report signed every lesson and return this to the relevant member of staff at the end of each day.

Conversations

If students are not meeting expectations in or outside of the classroom, they will receive a 30-minute Pastoral Detention with their Pastoral Leader. During this time, they will complete work and speak with the teacher who issued the detention to make things right before your next lesson. Failure to attend this detention or not meeting expectations in the room will result in a 1-hour SLT detention the following day.

During form time, students will have the opportunity to develop a lot of different skills outside of what they learn in their lessons. Below is a brief overview of what takes place each morning.

Be Ready Monday: Students show that they are organised for the week and reflect on their achievements from the previous week. They also set well-being targets for the week ahead.

Life Lessons: A robust platform that covers important topics that students need to consider.

THE IMPORTANCE OF READING ALOUD

‘to reassure, to entertain, to bond, to inform or explain, to arouse curiosity, to inspire.’

(Trelease, 2013:04)

WHY?

The Rationale:

✓ Students increase their reading miles as a result of an extra hour reading slot each week

✓ It helps to normalise reading books – it’s no longer just the remit of English department and their English teacher –students get to see that reading is much wider than that

Year 10:

Boys Don’t Cry by Malorie

Written from the point of view of two teenaged brothers: Dante, who is looking forward to university and a successful career, unexpectedly finds himself faced with the demands of full-time single parenthood, and Adam, who is happy to be gay and makes no secret of it, but ultimately suffers from the intolerance of those around him.

Students can also browse, reserve and revise subject areas by accessing our free online library system. Audio books and linked websites are also available, ensuring your child can widen their knowledge on a chosen subject matter.

Worried about your child online?

The digital world, including the internet & social media, is constantly evolving and provides excellent opportunities for students to learn from experts all over the world, interact with people from different cultures and develop their digital and creative skills.

We at CHS South want to encourage our students to become digital natives in a safe and responsible way.

To keep students up to date and remind them of the key messages we revisit digital safety each term. We work with students to help them understand the importance of protecting themselves, being digitally responsible and respectful and knowing how to report anything that they are not happy with. Students have a digital safety assembly, form time activities and messages in their lessons across the school. This gives them an opportunity to discuss the key messages with their form tutors and friends. Opportunities are also provided for students to learn about digital safety in more detail during Computing lessons, the Life Skills Programme & ELE days.

We want our students to work together as a community to ensure that all students are successful, happy and creative in the ever-expanding digital environment.

Don’t be afraid to set boundaries & rules just as you would in day-to-day life.

Have a go at the technologies yourself. Ask your child to help set you up & explain it to you.

Spread the word about Digital safety. Talk to your children about what they are doing online & what new, exciting things they are using.

Make full use of all Parental controls, privacy settings and safety options.
