Hello, some of you may know me as Koi, or Kelsea. Or some of you may know me as “The bike wash girl,” up at Target Motorsports. There is more to know about me than that. I’m originally from Lake City, Florida. I moved to South Carolina around two and half years ago looking for opportunities. Before I moved, I was a part-time technician for a small automotive shop. I loved the work, but never felt the fulfillment of it. When I moved, I started another automotive job through one of the major dealerships here, still, I haven’t felt fulfilled. It wasn’t until I reconnected with my biological father, and stepmother, who showed me the bike community. As well as introducing me to Travis Darken, along with Christina Chery, that brought me to my true “purpose.” Being around the bikes, working on the bikes, and washing the bikes. I wanted to ride, I wanted to feel that freedom, the wind, the tingles, the adrenaline, I wanted to feel all of it.

So, I hopped on my friend's 2023 Rebel 500. I practiced on her dad’s front lawn. From there, I got my road experience on another friend's Ninja 300. Now, I share a GSXR 600 with my partner. If you would’ve asked me 5 years ago, I would’ve told you that I would never be on a motorcycle and that horses were dangerous enough to deal with. Now I look back, and I can see how much the Bike community has helped me. Yes, it is a dangerous hobby. With that being said, I’d rather risk living a short but happy life, than a long life being miserable. I encourage everyone to go find their solitude just like I have. Take a chance, step outside of your comfort zone. Now that you know some background, maybe you’ll come see me up at Target Motorsports, and share your stories with me. On Fridays and Saturdays, I’ll be washing, saving for my own ride one day. If you’re interested in seeing my work, on Fridays we are open from 10am till 6pm. Saturdays we are open from 10am till 3pm.

new South Caroina's Open Carry Law

As of March 7, 2024, South Carolina law allows individuals 18 years of age and older to openly carry a firearm without a concealed weapons permit (CWP). The law also allows people to openly carry or concealed carry a firearm that is less than 12 inches long, regardless of whether they have a CWP

The law also allows individuals to:

• Store guns anywhere inside a vehicle, openly

• Be stopped if there is reasonable and articulable suspicion that a crime has occurred

• No longer be required to identify the weapon to police

• The law does not allow guns in private businesses with clearly marked signs prohibiting gun owners from entering. It also does not allow guns in churches, private businesses, and homes, without the permission of the owner or pastor.

•The law also provides stiffer penalties for people who repeatedly carry guns in places where they would still be banned, like schools or courthouses, or commit crimes while armed. The penalties can be enhanced if the offender doesn't have a CWP.

• Breaking any of these laws can result in a misdemeanor charge with a maximum fine of $1,000 or one year in prison. A second offense is punishable by a maximum prison sentence of three years, while a third offense is punishable by a maximum sentence of five years.

Where can’t You Openly Carry a Gun in South Carolina?

Under our handgun laws in SC, YOU MAY NOT carry a handgun, whether concealed or not, in the following places :

X Police stations, Sheriff’s departments, or other law enforcement facilities.

X Jails/ detention centers.

X Courthouses/ courtrooms.

X Polling places on election days.

X Offices or meeting places of governmental entities such as counties, cities, and school districts.

X School or college athletic events not related to firearms.

X Church officials who hold a CWP may carry a handgun openly or concealed on school grounds when the property is leased by the church and only during services or other official church activities. In limited instances, this may also apply to a school attached to church grounds.

X Daycares or preschools.

X Places where carrying of firearms is prohibited by Federal Law.

X Churches or religious sanctuaries unless permission is given by the head of the facility.

X Hospitals, medical clinics, doctor’s offices, or other places where medical services are rendered unless permission is given by the head of the facility.

X Businesses or other establishments that post “No Concealed Weapons

Allowed” signs or that otherwise express that they do not want concealed weapons on their premises.

X Homes, apartments, or other dwellings unless you have the express permission of the person living at the residence.

The State Law Enforcement Division in South Carolina must offer free concealed weapon permit training courses statewide to meet the proof of training requirement for obtaining a permit. The courses must be offered at least twice a month in every county, with additional classes provided if demand exceeds capacity. SLED can contract with private instructors or local law enforcement to provide the course, or conduct it themselves if necessary. This program does not prevent other instructors from offering their own training courses for a fee.

Ann-Margret, 82, Still Rides Her Harley-Davidson: "I Love Speed"

The actress who co-starred alongside Elvis Presley in 'Viva Las Vegas' has a new perfume, and all profits go to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.

At age 82, Ann-Margret is living life in the fast lane.

The "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Viva Las Vegas" actress was recently at the Women’s Image Network’s 25th Women’s Image Awards in Beverly Hills, where she revealed one thing that keeps her young- a Harley-Davidson.

"It’s lavender, and it’s got white daisies all over it," the star gushed to People magazine. "There [are] flowers on the back fender and the front fender. … I love speed. Not the drug."

The performer told the outlet that after a decades-long career in Hollywood, she has zero plans to slow down. Ann-Margret described how she took dance lessons early on in life to prove to her parents she was born to entertain.

In May, Ann-Margret told Fox News Digital she still rides her Harley.

"It was my daddy who inspired me to ride," she explained at the time. "Before he met my mother, he had a couple of motorcycles. One was an Indian and the other a BSA. And my uncle, my mother’s brother, had a big motorcycle. When I was 10 years old, I would ride on the back of his bike with him. … He would take me to the Norwegian border, and we would go into Norway. There’s no way I could forget that motorcycle.

The speed, being in the elements, the wind and the rain, the sleet and hail – oh gosh, I get very excited when I even talk about it. … Today, I’ve got this incredible Harley-Davidson motorcycle. It’s very funny when you see it parked next to all the other bikes. It’s lavender with daisies. It’s quite unique."

During the ‘60s, Ann Margret became a sought-after sex symbol, a title she never had any qualms about.

Ann-Margret said her father inspired her to ride. (Darlene Hammond/Hulton Archive)

I AM THAT GUY

When I was a kid, much like any other young boy, I was captivated by motorcycles and motorcycle people. Whenever a group of bikes would pass by on the road in front of our house, I would stop whatever I was doing and stare until they disappeared in the distance. I also recall more than once pressing my face against the glass in the back seat of mom’s car, staring at a biker while sitting at a stop light. If he happened to wave at me, I would be thrilled!

My first actual ride on a motorcycle was amazing. For as far back as I can remember my mom played church league softball which meant most evenings, we could be found at a church somewhere in Greenwood County cheering for the team.

One evening, while we were watching the church ladies kick the snot out of the visitors at our home field, Mr. Parkman, whose daughter also played ball, showed up on a shiny green motorcycle. I believe it was probably a late 60s or early 70s Japanese bike and it was AWESOME!

My friends and I ran over to him so we could take a closer look. He was overjoyed at the sudden attention! Asking if we wanted to ride, Mr. Parkman took turns taking each of us for a short spin up the road and back. It was only five minutes or so, but I will never forget that day.

When I bought my first “for real” street bike, my com-padres and I would hang out and ride to the lake or maybe take a day trip to Augusta. We did not see ourselves as bikers, only a bunch of kids having fun.

One evening, my friend Roger and I were sitting on our Yamahas when a club guy sped by his house burning up the asphalt! Foolishly thinking we were club material; we hopped on our bikes and took off after him, flashing our lights until we got him to pull over. I will not mention the club name, but this guy was a serious biker who had to be wondering why these two punks had flagged him down.

“We want to join your club!” we happily announced, thinking that we would immediately be welcomed with open arms.

Dang we were stupid!

The guy was amused, but he was as cool as he could be. His motorcycle was dripping with chrome and it was big and beautiful! He lit a cigarette, threw the match on the ground, and walked back to check out our motorcycles. While I am sure he was less than impressed, he talked about how nice our little Yamaha motorcycles were, which of course had us beaming with pride!

He could have been a total jerk and belittled us for bothering him, and he would have been within his rights, but he did not. Instead, this total stranger took the time to make us feel important.

. Me and the “Posse”, as we jokingly refer to our group, had planned to go for a Sunday ride. As usual, we met up at the local Spinx station to start the day with a cup of coffee and a little conversation.

Two young boys were in the parking lot who seemed to be between eight and ten years old, and they were ecstatic to see our bikes. They kept walking out in the parking lot, smiling and waving, and shouting things like “Hey motorcycle man!”

These two kids were looking at us the way I used to look at Evil Knievel!

A couple of the guys went over and talked to them for a second and shook their little hands. A few minutes later, I finished my coffee and headed for the trash can to discard my paper cup. When I made it to the building, the little boys stuck their heads out the door and one of them asked if I was a biker. I responded with “Yes sir, I am.”

“I want to be a biker, and when I grow up, I’m going to get a motorcycle just like yours!”

I asked him his name, smiled, then told him to stick to his dreams and they would come true. After a couple of fist bumps and another smile, I walked back to my Street Glide.

That's when it hit me.

I am that guy…

To someone, I am that motorcycle rider who rode up beside my mom’s car and waved. To someone, I am Mr. Parkman riding little kids on his bike. To someone, I am that club member who took the time to make two young men feel important.

At that moment, I realized that we have a huge responsibility to the young people who look up to us. They see us as examples and there is nothing we can do about that, but we can choose to be good examples or bad examples.

Which one will you choose to be?

God’s word tells us in Titus 2:6-8 (NLT) In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely. And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching. Teach the truth so that your teaching cannot be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.

Whether we realize it or not, we have a golden opportunity. We can change the course of a young person’s life by simply giving them a smile or a wave. We can make young people feel important by just saying hello and making them feel as though they matter. We can give words of wisdom to young people who are thirsting for direction in their lives.

Please remember, no matter where you ride, no matter where your group decides to stop for lunch, no matter what gas station you stop at, you are “that guy” or “that girl” to someone. Do not waste the opportunity you have been given. You can make a difference.

Ride on and stay safe, Dennis

Dr. DILLIGAF

Dr. Dilligaf, I've been riding for about a year, and I LOVE it!! I've seen a lot of cool stuff and learned there is more to life than just work! Anyways, I was at a bike night and some guys were unloading off their bikes and putting their gear up when a tampon fell out of the tour pack of one of the bikes. His buddy reached down, picked it up, and handed it to him... no big deal! I'm a chick and I've never seen 2 guys interact with a tampon in such a calm manner... am I missing something?

-Ashley

Dear Ashley,

Am I to assume that you have seen guys 2 interact with a tampon in a manner that was less than calm? From a male perspective I can assure you that unless it has been used, men have no guttural reactions to tampons. Did you expect them to run away screaming in terror or to possibly throw up a little? If it was not their reaction that gives you pause but the surprise of a typically use specific device that defies your logic, please allow me to .......elucidate the various other applications

of a tampon. The most common use familiar to bikers who are exmilitary is the use of a tampon to stop the flow of blood. Now hold on a minute and don't jump to a conclusion here. We're talking bullet or stab wounds. Open wounds from crashes and spills may also be treated with a handy dandy one size fits all wound dressing.

Another use that I'm familiar with is as a water filter, it won't purify the liquids but will filter most particulate matter. Of course, they may just be carrying them around in case they come across a guy on the road who turns out to be a big p____y.

Having explained the obvious reasons that these guys had tampons with them I must needs point out that in today's society there is a real possibility that the aforementioned female hygiene gear was simply a necessity from a former time in their lives. A time when they were identified by other pronouns.

Dr. Dilligaf

Dr. Dilligaf

I live outside of Beaufort, SC and plan to trailer my Road Glide to MB Bike Week. My asshole friends rag the shit out of me but damn, what's the big deal?

-Trailer King

Trailer King,

That's what friends are for. Life has taught me that birds of a feather flock together so watch out for the name calling. Can't you ride from Beaufort to Myrtle Beach quicker than you can load and un-load a bike from a trailer?

You do realize that the Road Glide moniker refers to actually being in touch with the road, don't you? You could just have a little badge made up that says Trailer Glide and solve your dilemma. Or you could make new friends that also have touring bikes that don't get a chance to tour.

Of course, you could be saving the mileage on your bike for a better future re-sale value. That is a lot like not having conjugal relations with your better half so that she will be less "used" for her next man.

Ok, that's my Jab. Now, I will jump to your

defense. I have been ridiculed for trailering at times. My defense was that I have a home at the beach that requires maintenance and up-keep. Have you ever tried to carry ladders and lawn mowers on a bike? Me neither, although I have been seen with heads of collards or maybe a bushel of oysters on the luggage rack. Frankly, though, if you aren't carrying a big load or you're physically limited on your ability to ride beyond short distances why are you trailering? The additional hassle of finding parking for the trailer and tow vehicle coupled with public ridicule should be a deterrent.

My motto has for many years has been to "Ride it like you stole it". That being said get an enclosed trailer and trailer it like you stole it. I also noted that you signed your letter in error. It should be Trailer Queen. I have to close now and take a call. Friends want to borrow my trailer to take their bikes to a bike rally.

Benefit For Food For The Soul

Benefitting The Homeless Shelter

In Kershaw County

March 23rd 2024, Camden, SC

Hosted by: Brandy and Patrick

The 2nd annual Ride for the soul was a wonderful success with raising $1,740 to benefit Food for the Soul, a homeless shelter located in Kershaw County, SC. The morning started off fairly cloudy with spots of rain, but 37 total motorcycles showed up to support the cause. As the weather cleared throughout the day the ride picked up participants at multiple stops to join the ride. The skies cleared for a beautiful day of riding and a game of Hi-Lo. At the end of the ride all the wonderful supporters who are treated to a buffet style dinner, music, vendors, and some amazing items for auction. A huge thank you for Beaver's Den for not only being the host location but also being an amazing supporter for the ride. I would also like to thank our location sponsors Coate's Billiards, Bull's-eye Bar, and Saints & Sinners. We look forward to hosting Ride for the Soul next year at the end of March in 2025.

Hell yes, it was a great weekend! Left 1/2 of it with Buck and the rest back in the bed roll. Headed out going to Newberry Mich. Since that's where I was born, and still have some friends there, I figured it would be a cool place to rest up for the last leg home. It's 500 miles to Kalamazoo we had a cloudy day but warm in the mid-60s. US 2 is like riding through a large forest, we still have on leather but no gloves. Best day yet; stopped at a couple of tourist traps along the highway, it was fun. We stopped for lunch and had Irish Pasties, it's a handheld meat and veggie pie with the crust folded over, Yummy!!

I stopped for gas at Hwy 41 at Escanaba, that's right on Lake Michigan. It's a great place to meet some locals and have a smoke break. Sold an oz to the locals for 20 bucks then on to Newberry. We got there just at dusk and went to the Paul Bunyan Motel where my cousin works so we got a discount on the room and there was a great restaurant where we got up with my cousins Pat, Beth, and a few friends from yesteryears. We all headed to the local party spot on the lake where we had a fire, smoked a little then back to the motel for a good nite sleep.

I will be home tomorrow nite, the last 510 miles to Kalamazoo. Missy's mom is coming down to get her.

This has been a great trip and the longest I have made on a motorcycle, so far.

Ride Free,Ride Safe! Blessings on Y'all!

See you at Bike Nite!

Here Are Some Laws To Keep In Mind

For Myrtle Beach Bike Week 2024:

Alcohol

The legal drinking age is 21, and open containers of alcohol are not permitted in public areas or vehicles. Alcohol sales are not permitted after 2 AM, unless the bar has an exemption. No open containers of alcoholic beverages in vehicles or public areas.

Helmets

Motorcycle operators and passengers under 21 must wear an approved helmet. Not wearing a helmet or goggles can result in a fine of up to $100, a misdemeanor, and up to 30 days in jail.

Parking

UP TO TWO MOTORCYCLES can fit in ONE PARKING SPACE , and BOTH vehicles MUST PAY for parking if the spot is metered. Store parking is for customers only, and loitering is not permitted in posted parking lots after hours or if the business is closed.

Riding

SC allows up to two motorcycles to ride in one lane of traffic, and bikes cannot weave in between vehicles. Racing is illegal in Myrtle Beach, and motor vehicles are not permitted to drive on the beach, sidewalk, or marsh.

"Holding"

Horry County specifically prohibits motorcycle “holding,” which is when a motorcycle stops traffic at an intersection so a group may pass by without following traffic signals.

Noise

Excessive, unnecessary, or unusually loud noises that disturb, annoy, injure, or endanger the safety, health, peace, or comfort of others are prohibited in unincorporated areas of Horry County. COUNTY QUIET HOURS are from 11pm to 7am, so drivers must make sure to turn down music and hold off on shouting during that time.

No Littering

In South Carolina, littering is defined as the act of throwing, dropping, or otherwise disposing of waste material on public or private property without permission from the legal owner. This includes cigarette butts, glass, bottles, paper, cans, plastic, rubber, garbage, and more.

No Loitering

Myrtle Beach's Definition: It's illegal to loiter in a way that's unusual for law-abiding people, or in circumstances that could cause alarm for the safety of people or property. Loitering for the purpose of engaging in drug-related activity is also prohibited.

Funny Side Note from Nicole:

Wikipedia's Definition: Stand or wait around idly or without apparent purpose.

When not riding, isn't that exactly what "us" bikers do??
