COME AFTER ME, AND I WILL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MAN
Jesus's decision to go to Galilee is evidence of His compassion. He went to preach to the poor and to the despised sinners. Instead of seeking the rich and the learned, Jesus chose to minister to the needy, the ignorant, and the outcast. Through His first actions and words Jesus was enlightening the ignorant, guiding the lost, and raising up those who were in the shadow of death. And Jesus began to preach with an invitation to repent, an invitation to change our hearts and minds, to turn our ways of life around, to re-arrange our categories and our activities.In other words,to put God as the top of our priorities.
At the same time, Jesus was also gathering a team, a team of misfits and castoffs. His first choice,Peter,was bombastic,impulsive and full of fear,and Jesus chose him to lead; what is more, He also chose Peter's brother Andrew James and John, the ones who wanted to negotiate who would sit next to Jesus in the Kingdom, were also included from the beginning. Matthew, the Sacred Author of today's gospel, was also part of the team, even though he was a tax collector. We can imagine their initial meeting, at some gathering with Jesus. Their hostility and suspicion of each other could only be healed by the great and unstoppable love Jesus offered to them as individuals.
It was not that they were looking for Jesus; it was the teacher, the one who actively went and recruited His followers. And from there, all of them share the joy of immediately answering a call. A conversion call, a decisive break with their former lives, a controversial and radical decision which many others in their society would consider disrespectful and ungrateful toward their families. Jesus' invitation was not directed to their heads, but to their hearts. Their answer to the call evolved into an unconditional discipleship without hesitation or questioning. Their answer is also a sign of Jesus' unique authority and power. As God speaks,His word is instantly and utterly enacted.And they leave everything behind.

Jesús evidencia su compasión al iniciar su ministerio en Galilea. Empezaba así predicando para los pobres y despistados pecadores.En lugar de procurar servir a los instruidos, Jesús escoge servir al necesitado y al desprotegido Jesús empieza su ministerio con una invitación a arrepentirse y a cambiar nuestros corazones, a cambiar nuestra forma de vivir, a recomponer nuestros valores y nuestras prioridades. En otras palabras, a poner a Dios como el centro de nuestras vidas.
Pero al mismo tiempo, Jesús forma un grupo de colaboradores con iletrados y rechazados de la sociedad. Su estrella, Pedro, peleonero y miedoso, y Jesús lo escoge para ser el líder. Es más, también escogió a su hermano Andrés, a Santiago y a Juan, aquellos que pedían un lugar a su derecha cuando instaurara su reino, fueron también incluidos desde el principio Mateo, el autor sagrado del evangelio que hoy proclamamos, fue parte también del grupo, aun cuando era un recolector de impuestos; o lo que es lo mismo, aliado del invasor romano No costaría trabajo imaginar una de sus reuniones Su hostilidad y sospechas de unos por otros pudieron ser solo superadas por el amor inmenso que Jesús les ofrecía.
No fue que ellos buscaran a Jesús; fue el Maestro el que los busco y se fijó en ellos para hacerlos sus discípulos. A partir de entonces, todos compartían la dicha de haber respondido que sí al llamado del maestro. Fue este un llamado de conversión, un romper con su forma de vida, una decisión controversial y radical que muchos considerarían irrespetuosa y desagradecida para con sus familias.La invitación de Jesús no estuvo dirigida a sus cabezas, sino a sus corazones. Su respuesta evoluciono hasta volverse un discipulado incondicional, sin restricciones ni preguntas. Su respuesta representa un signo incuestionable de la autoridad del Maestro. Cuando Dios habla, su voluntad es inmediatamente obedecida,¡y abandonaron todo por seguirlo!

Chúa Giê-su thể hiện lòng thương xót của Ngài bằng cách bắt đầu sứ mệnh của mình tại Ga-li-lê. Ngài bắt đầu bằng việc rao giảng cho người nghèo và những người tội lỗi. Thay vì tìm cách phục vụ những người có học thức. Thay vì tìm cách phục vụ tầng lớp trí thức và giàu có, Chúa Giê-su chọn phục vụ những người thiếu thốn,thất học và dễ bị tổn thương.Chúa Giê-su bắt đầu sứ mệnh của mình bằng lời mời gọi ăn năn và thay đổi tâm hồn, thay đổi lối sống, suy xét lại các giá trị đời sống và sinh hoạt của chúng ta. Nói cách khác, đặt Thiên Chúa làm trung tâm cuộc sống của chúng ta.
Nhưng đồng thời, Chúa Giê-su lập một nhóm cộng sự từ những người lạc lõng và bị bỏ rơi. Người Ngài chọn đầu tiên, Phêrô, một người khoa trương, bốc đồng và sợ hãi, lại được Chúa Giêsu chọn làm người lãnh đạo Hơn thế nữa, Ngài cũng chọn Andrés anh của Phêrô Giacôbê và Gioan, những người đã yêu cầu được ngồi bên cạnh Chúa Giêsu trong Nước Trời,cũng được chọn ngay từ đầu. Matthêu, tác giả Tin Mừng mà chúng ta công bố hôm nay, cũng là một phần tử của nhóm, mặc dù ông là một người thu thuế. Hay nói cách khác, là đồng minh của quân xâm lược La Mã. Không khó để hình dung một trong những cuộc gặp gỡ của họ. Sự thù địch và nghi ngờ lẫn nhau chỉ có thể được vượt qua bởi tình yêu bao la mà Chúa Giê-su dành cho họ
Không phải họ tìm kiếm Chúa Giêsu; Chính Chúa Giêsu đã chủ động tìm kiếm và chọn họ làm môn đệ của Ngài. Từ đó trở đi, mọi người cùng chia sẻ niềm vui khi thưa vâng theo tiếng gọi của Ngài. Đó là lời kêu gọi hoán cải, sự đoạn tuyệt với lối sống cũ, một quyết định gây tranh cãi và cấp tiến mà nhiều người sẽ coi là thiếu tôn trọng và vô ơn với gia đình. Lời mời gọi của Chúa Giê-su không nhắm vào lý trí của họ, mà nhắm vào tấm
lòng của họ. Câu trả lời của họ là tinh thần của người môn đệ theo Chúa vô điều kiện, không do dự hay có những thắc mắc nào Câu trả lời của họ thể hiện một dấu hiệu không nghi ngờ về thẩm quyền và quyền năng của Chúa Giêsu. Khi Chúa phán, lời của Ngài được thực hiện ngay lập tức và trọn vẹn. Và họ bỏ lại mọi thứ phía sau để theo Ngài!
